@@superkingdynamic1863 That's cool that you have this opinion and I'd love for people like you to be the majority of the holders of said opinion, but what Setsuna pointed out actually does happen quite often in the Atlus community. The contrarian scene is very prominent there, along with invading bitter FF fans who attempt to false flag and derail discussions. It will likely happen again when Persona 6 comes out and those same bitter people will pretend to have liked Persona 5 all along. Happens every time.
@@SetsunaF916 I think it's overrated because the character resolutions don't really match the themes of their respective arcs. They're set up to be societal outcasts but they wind up just conceding to society's whims and abandoning what makes them them. It's very bitter and cynical, along with some of the story beats in Catherine. Persona 5 and Metaphor definitely make up for these blunders, though.
My thing when it comes to characters so far, there are zero characters I dislike in metaphor. They’re all extremely interesting and engaging. Persona tends to have a wider spectrum of amazing to bad characters.
Barret posting endless L takes here like… Mishima has one of the best confident arcs in the game, going from loser over-identifying with the thieves to understanding how his over identification came from insecurity and that it damages himself and others. Embarrassing take, bro.
To be fair none of his Persona takes were as bad as him saying Arkham Knight is the best Arkham game. That is like saying your favourite Indy movie is Crystal Skull.
45:35 this is what I wanted 😂 This year is so good for Atlus RPGs, Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor which I haven’t even got to yet because I’m playing Unicorn Overlord and SMT V:V
Regarding the Characters conversation, the thing with Persona/Metaphor games is that MC is always a force of change in the lives of people they create bonds with. The cast is not going "you're great!" for the sake of the player's ego, but because since entering their lives, MC kickstarted their arc and helped them face their truths and were by their side from their lowest points til the end.
I think the Metaphor name is exactly why the game is selling well. It is the Elden Ring effect. That game was basically just Dark Souls 4, but it blew sales expectations out of the water because it didn’t come with the baggage of the name and new players wanted to jump in as a result.
Totally. SMTV combat is amazing and the best Atlus has ever been. Not sure Blessing will vibe with the rest of the game (story, world, characters, etc.), but he might really enjoy the combat.
Nice to see Persona 5 fans continuing to run a smear campaign on Persona 4 all these years later. Not sure why they constantly feel the need to do this.
P4 has an opportunity to fix some of the issues with a remaster. A banger updated soundtrack, address some of the issues with how they handle certain topics, a new voice cast that hopefully makes Teddie less annoying, and add extra hangout stuff and QOL combat improvements and additional stuff like monad doors etc
Prefacing with 10 hrs of P4G, 110 hrs P5 (completed), 50 hrs P5R, 30 hrs of P3R, and 10 hrs of Metaphor... I was most worried about the setting changes of Metaphor before deciding whether or not to hop in. After my first 10 hours I think those fears were unfounded. The setting and focus of the character interactions are very engaging. The adjustments to the combat have made that part of the series more engaging. I just got into my first 'real' set of free time so I'm interested to see how it develops but I'm really enjoying Metaphor.
We made our shooter rpg better by removing the aim stick is how the social sim elements feel in metaphor, i get how people like it, but the role playing element in p3r/p5r/fire emblem 3 houses better.
Blessing enjoying the optional bosses in Metahpor for their difficulty might mean he would indeed appreciate the combat of SMT quite a bit. Every boss is like that in SMT where you need to plan and re-arrange your whole party and strategy or you will get wrecked. Combat-wise, SMT is definitely where it's at for Atlus games. But the setting, story, characters and so on will probably not jive with him since it's so different and in the background compared to Persona and Metaphor. SMT is all about combat and building your demons/party. Hope he gives SMTV a shot though because it is a great game. Those trials bosses Blessing is talking about really push you in fun ways. My only complaint is the last one is a bit too cheap with a guaranteed party wipe attack if you don't kill him quickly enough which sucks to be honest.
Just a tip if you're having trouble with the difficulty in metaphor u can make everyone a warrior and do a synthesis move that takes out bosses in 3 or 4 moves
Insane to me talking about atlus best game and not mentioning SMTVV at all, before any ignorant persona fan comes at me, SMT is the OG of the series and there would not be any persona without it
Biggest SMT fan here, the argument that SMTVV is the best because the SMT series is the origin of their gameplay/design is not a sound argument. SMTVV is great by our enjoyment, but they tried SMTV and bounced off, and because of that Barrett hasn't wanted to give it another chance yet and Blessing now wants to, and that's all fine. Not every game can resonate with every person
The issue for both of them is probably that SMTV is much more about combat with a philosophical top-level story without all the characters, life sim, and front-facing story of Persona. No question that SMTV is the apex combat-wise though.
Menu design in metaphor is a little clunky, because things i should be able to alter in one menu are often in other ones, changing inhereted skills and swapping classes should be do’able from more menus
While I agree. SMT are much more hardcore JRPGs and don’t have the stylish UI that kinda lure less enthusiastic JRPG players in. They are great though.
Having beaten all of the modern style personas and near the end of metaphor im so happy metaphor exists. Persona is great but im 30 now i cant take another 100 hour jrpg about teens going throught it. Give me persona 6 with someone working a desk job or in college please
25 hours in Metaphor. I feel something off with Metaphor’s story that I cant quite point out. It’s like there’s no build up and the climaxes and resolutions end too fast vs Persona. Technicals also disappoint as a 2024 game. The graphics cant keep up with the art. Its a shame because you can see how great the art is but the ps3 graphics with poor lighting/textures/anti aliasing pulls it back As beautiful as the UI is, the UX kinda sucks when customizing your party The rest is great
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is awesome. It was my first of their games so probably has an impact but I couldn't stop playing it. Not sure how it would be for veterans of Atlus but I think it's worth checking out.
Atlus veteran here, though admittedly haven't gone back to it since its initial release. TMS#FE is awesome and its gameplay is upper echelon for all Atlus games.
they clearly don't remember all the extra stuff that P5R has to its combat, that Metaphor just doesn't. Metaphor's combat is SO weak in comparison. No ultimate moves, no hostage system, no technical, no baton pass, no holdup, no all-out, etc. I do like the back row/front row dynamic, and how you get more freedom with how you build your party members. But there's still just so many more features to P5R
Synthesis skills are better than the showtimes in P5R ever were, in the press turn system the pass option is the same as baton pass, all out attacks aren't really interesting from a strategic perspective, hold ups don't work with this system, and the hostage system is irrelevant and gets used maybe two or 3 times in the average playthrough. Technicals would be neat I guess. I like both games but Metaphor has far better combat.
Respectfully I don’t think comparing the 2nd version of 5 to Metaphor isnt exactly fair. But if we are gonna. I will say the combat balance 5R is so off. Especially for an Atlus game that are traditionally hard. The team is too powerful too early on. Metaphor brings a lot more balance back to combat. The Synthesis skills are more balanced and it taking two turns is fair.

My thing when it comes to characters so far, there are zero characters I dislike in metaphor. They’re all extremely interesting and engaging. Persona tends to have a wider spectrum of amazing to bad characters.
Also each character in P5 is simply slightly less fleshed out, and built more upon preexisting tropes.

The first time I heard NPR use a Persona 5 track in one of their their interstitials I almost crashed my car

So Barrett just hates Persona 4? Meh
There is a character Barrett spoiled for me on the review. I did not know I was going to team up with them , all good though.
