  • Bing Crosby recites "One Solitary Life"
    One Solitary Life
He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman.
He grew up in another obscure village, where He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty.
Then, for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never had a family or owned a home.
He never set foot inside a big city.
He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born.
He never held and office or did any of the things that usually accompany greatness.
While He was still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him.
    His friends deserted Him.
He was turned over to his enemies, and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had-His coat.
When He was dead, He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave.
Two thousand years have come and gone, and today He is the central figure for much of the human race. All the armies that ever marched and all the navies that ever sailed and all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as this "One Solitary Life".

The basic truth of theses simple words never fail to bring tears to my eyes. I love Bings version; I remember seeing this as a teenager, and realizing that what he was saying was the real and true reason we celebrate the Christmas season.

Thankyou so much for posting this. This was included in "A Bing Crosby Christmas"...at least the version I watched on PBS. But when I bought it on DVD both this and Kathryn Crosby's memories of caroling with Bing on Christmas Eve and going to church on Christmas Day had been exorcised. Well, gee whiz.

However one may feel about Bing Crosby, he orates well in this video and the message is far more important than the messenger. All of history's billions of people come far short of the glorious Jesus Christ.

You'll have to get this on DVD if you ever want to see it at all. TV has all but exorcised the name of Jesus AND God much to the dismay of Christians. A shame. We're losing the battle for our faith. Good ol' Bing; there was a unique talent.

Yeah that's him; it also has short clips with
Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, David Bowie
Carol Burnett, John Byner, Roy Clark
Jackie Gleason, Michael Landon, Connie Stevens.
Times sure have changed since those days. :(
