- I made this video in Fukushima, Japan with my brother Ben. Fukushima has gotten a bad rap but it is one of the most beautiful places in Japan. This area is called Urabandai. I thought the scenery fit perfectly with this amazing song by Ryuichi Sakamoto. I hope you enjoy it

Believer by Imagine Dragons -- I think it could have similar atmosphere to your Closer interpretation, but I am sure the Mad Arranger can work the magic out and show us a more fantastic and striking one.

Had to find this again after hearing Sakamoto-san passed today. I first heard of him when a friend told me he was in the Yellow Magic Orchestra... I still have that cassette somewhere.
This is my favorite piece by him, and this is in such a beautiful setting. Thank you, Mr. Koller for producing and uploading this (I'm still amazed that piano wasn't 'totaled' in the rain).

今までいろんな戦場のメリークリスマスのピアノ演奏動画を見てきたけど、その中でも一番素晴らしく、そして最高に美しい。まずロケーションが日本の福島を選んでくれた事。時折雨が水面に落ちる湖のほとり。見事に赤く色づいたもみじ。大自然の静寂とピアノのコラボ。そして奏でる曲は日本が世界に誇る作曲家の代表曲。何もかもが素晴らしい。もしこれが快晴だったら？賑やかな街角だったら？観客を集めた大ホールだったら？ここまでの情緒豊かな動画にはならなかったはず。見応えのある、聴き応えのある素晴らしい動画でした。
この曲、何故か涙が出る。
美しくて儚いのに暖かくて。
アレンジ、初めて聞いたのにどこか懐かしい。
素敵です。
涙が出て声を殺して泣きました｡映画(戦争映画を初めて観てみたいそう思った)観ましたあの時の感動と実はピアノバージョン坂本龍一氏のも聴いた事があってとにかく感動が蘇って・・・あなた様の演奏が素晴らしいから有難う御座いました😭😂

Just incredible... Those thick, dense and rich chords in between the main motif each time are bliss. Such a beautiful timeless piece of music, I don't even think enough people know about the piece either, don't think you'll find a better video and performance than this anywhere...

This piece always tugged at me w that modal underpinning it gives it that Japanese folk melody feel which i dig the imagery is exceedingly beautiful one of your best to date man , y'all keep it up!
Could you please explain what you mean by a modal underpinning? I hear a lot of pentatonic scales, but nothing that we'd called modal in Western music. Transposing into C for ease of typing, a possible chord sequence for the main refrain goes F(maj7), G7, Amin7, G6, F(maj7), G7, Amin7, Amin7. That's what my ears (and some Googling) tells me. Maybe modal can mean any scale which isn't major or minor, in which case pentatonic certainly counts. BTW, that chord sequence sure looks like A minor to me, but my ears tell me C major.

I normally just leave UA-cam music videos running in the background, but this scenery was so stunning I just had to watch the video along with the music. Excellent choice of locale and great filming work, everyone involved should be proud!
Also, poor piano getting wet in the rain, it's probably not very healthy for it from the conservation standpoint... Its sacrifice was definitely not in vain though!
