You’re dead wrong and need to do your research. Galloping Ghost, Brookfield, Il.👻👻👻👻👻👻👻
Putting quarters into a machine is such a different experience than tapping a card to play like nowadays.
My kids just don't understand how valuable a quarter was back in our day. You could do so much with that magical coin.
Paragon pinball literally stole your money lol. Thank you for the video for so much nostalgia, love it!
Enjoying this Biggest Arcade video from the UK. Thank you so much! ☃🎄🎅
I grew up in Laconia in the late 70’s early 80’s. Funspot was my second home. My parents would drop me off on a Saturday with $10-$20 and pick me up 4-6 hours later. It was an AWESOME place to hang out with friends for the day. I still go there with my now 16yr old son
I agree! That entire area is great! I wish I lived a little closer....
Damm I would never have left that place I lived in arcades here in New Zealand ,now sadly our arcades are in decline, I'm very lucky to own a 150 game cabinet but there's many games I've not seen since childhood that I've seen in funspot. I'd literally fly from nz just to play, big hello from. Nz🙏🇳🇿🍻🎄👍🕶
Just hearing the ambiance of the arcade is very nostalgic. I would love to visit this place someday.
I agree! It's all about the ambiance for me!
For 20$ you get 120 tokens, all the games upstairs only take 1 token each
Same here!
@@fleabittenadventures Have you ever played Hercules? The game is absolutely awful. It's like hitting a real hard white cue ball, it's not fun at all.
My family and I go 4-5 times a year and if you have the opportunity to go to NH you should check it out. It’s such a fun and not terribly expensive way to spend several hours and there is so much to do in the area no matter what time of year.
You're right. This is the greatest arcade I've ever seen. Now this is an Arcade. Literally everything was here: Classic Arcade Games, Modern Arcade Games, Pinball Machines, Casino Games, Racing Games, Bingo Machines, Card Machines, Bowling Alleys, Skiball, Air Hockey, Vending Machines and Restaurant, and yes, I even saw a Claw Machine, lol. This was a fantastic place to see, thanks for the tour!
An Arcade like this makes you wonder where the SoNo Collection Mall in Norwalk, Connecticut gets off calling those 8 Claw Machines leaned up on a wall without even a dedicated store space an arcade, complete with a Neon sign above the wall that even says SoNo Arcade. lol.
Hahahahahaha! I took my 8 and 6 year old boys there about a year ago and even my small children, who know nothing about life, knew that SoNo "Arcade" was a waste! My 8 year old was PISSED about that place!!
Half of it doesn't even work. Hardly the "greatest arcade"
I work at an arcade in British Columbia, Canada. We're called "The Fun Factor" and I've been working there for just about 20 years now! I've seen so many games come and go, along with different fads, etc. It's great to see such an amazing collection of old all the way to the newest games out there. My favourite fighting game series is Samurai Showdown (Spirits) and it was great to see one in that multi-cade machine. I'm kind of surprised they didn't have a Trog machine. That one has a lot of great personal memories for me. For those who don't know, you play as one of four dinosaurs collecting coloured eggs on different maps while fighting off the Trog cavemen. As you go along, they get 'smarter' and learn things like how to make fire, etc. But you can fight back and punch them or eat a pineapple and turn into a huge T Rex and eat them lol. It's like Pacman on steroids lol. A small anecdote: you don't often see huge collections like this anymore, because it largely depends on the demographic in the area of the arcade. For us, long gone are the days of the fighting games, and things like that, primarily because of consoles. Most arcades have switched to interactive games in order to survive, because people have most videogames at their fingertips these days with the Switch, etc. When Street Fighter IV came out, they only sold them as doubles (you couldn't just purchase one cabinet) and they were about $25,000 each, so that's of course $50,000 right there. There was a turn around time of one month to make that money back before it hit home consoles, and for many places, that just wasn't feasible. so, while arcade videogames are disappearing, you'll find the rise of Laser Tag, Laser Frenzy, Indoor 3D Black Light Mini Golf, Bumper Cars, Mini Bowling and QBIX (kind of like VR but you don't wear a headset.) Also, while it is nostalgic to have tokens and paper tickets still, the card system is nice because there are less germs (as the card is yours and yours only vs. many people handling tokens) and it saves on paper waste. However, having said that, you are at the mercy of more technology and when things get mixed, it can become a hassle. The older mechanical games definitely seem to operate with much less fuss than the newest computer run ones lol. But that's like everything else these days ;) Anyways, thanks for the arcade tour! This was great. :)
Well done!
I absolutely love Funspot. I’ve been going here since 1988 when my now-late parents took me every summer. I have such fond memories of having Skee-Ball contests with my mom, where we earned tickets to win a set of Funspot cups and a drink pitcher….which I still have to this day!!
I am fortunate now to bring my young son here at least twice a year to help him build his own fond memories (and to re-live a happy piece of my childhood) ♥️
I grew up in weirs beach, funspot was my hangout spot and you would find me there every weekend in the 90's to early 2000's. The place hasnt really changed much, still has the same sounds as it did back in the day. thanks for bringing back some good memories!
Great video was awesome seeing such a large Arcade and still around today! I couldn't believe they had Crossbow, Chiller and Cheyenne all next to each other! Crossbow was one of my favorites! 🕹️
Yeah, it's pretty awesome! Thanks for watching!
@fleabittenadventures Yeah and sure thing nice job!
As a child of the 80’s, this definitely was crazy nostalgic to watch. You actually showed some machines that I haven’t thought about in years and completely forgot about. I was super addicted to punch-out and APB where you had to tap the button super fast to get the criminals to confess.
🤔nice channel!!!luv looking at arcades,bring back memories👍🏻👍🏻
This was an interesting and exciting video, thank you. 🔥🔥🔥 I would like to see more videos about arcades 🤩❤️❤️❤️
What a labor of love to keep all those old kiddie rides and games working. The place looks really wonderful and takes me back to a Fun and Games Family Fun Center I used to go to in Pennsylvania.
A lot of the games at Funspot arent in working order. I'd say 20% of the games are in need of TLC. You'll see if you ever go there 😢
@@noxcure I am definitely interested in making the trip sometime. It is sad that a lot of the machines are in some disrepair. A wonderful sight to behold at least I'm sure.
They do a shit job at "keeping them working"
I’ve been here in New Hampshire! It was so amazing and we had no idea it was there when we were on vacation. It was a great surprise and we went multiple times ❤
I don't know any other arcades like it! Hopefully it stays around for another 60 years!
Great video ! I have been there and found games from even the late 60s and early 70s . 👨🏻🚒👍🏼
Fun to watch. :D Thanks & Greetings from Sweden
Paradise for me many thanks for your video man !!!!!!! :-)
wow that was amazing that brings back memories awesome video thank you for sharing to bad they did not have battle toads but i love paper boy and turtles classic arcade games
This place looks incredible, like going back in time! Oh man, I'd love to visit this place with my son. ❤❤❤
I am building a half-scale Tron using a CRT and RetroPie. I love this video, thanks for posting.
Grew up going to Funspot in the 80’s and 90’s, such an amazing place, I’m so glad it still exists!
Oh wow it's so LIMINAL! Right out my dreams or nightmares.....mightmares I'll call them.. spooky! Gotta get up there one day
I'm a local to this area and I grew up going here. It has actually changed quite significantly since the 90's for sure, but the vibe, sounds, smells and the sticky carpets haven't changed at all! It's an amazing experience to this day and now my kids love it too, though I know the nostalgia is lost on them, but it doesn't matter, they make new memories just like I did with this place!
I used to go there in the 80's, which I can't believe is almost 40 years ago at this point, and my memories of it aren't super sharp, but it still feels very similar to the way I remember it. Thanks for watching!
WOW! I really need to take a trip here!
Galloping Ghost has entered the chat, hold my licorice.
Galloping ghost is the largest in the world.
This is the way 🔼
Wow, I remember that Fire Truck game from when I was a little boy! I'd totally forgotten about it until now.
Absolutely love Funspot, my buddies and I go every few years. Favorites there are Tapper and Monaco GP. That weird hole game that's in the tavern next to the pinball machine is a blast as well, pretty sure it came from Pinball Wizard in Pelham when they closed down years ago.
I was actually just at Funspot yesterday! That Star Castle cabinet at 39:37 got quite a few dollars worth of tokens from me during my visit, I love that game and it's probably my favorite arcade machine of all time (easily my favorite vector game at least!). I dream of owning one of those cabs some day.
There definitely is a bit of a rotation to the machines there, on the few times I've visited plus seeing what was working during your video here, things definitely pop in and out with some regularity. Im sure with nearly everything in that room being at least 35-45 years old, keeping everything in working order has to be an absolute constant battle. Hats off to the team at ACAM for at least keeping the majority of those machines alive at any given time!
Yeah, I assume they are rotating them for maintenance and to change things up. I read that they have about 600 machines, but only have about 300 on the floor at one time. I'm not sure if that's true though. Thanks for watching!
thanks a lot, i want this in Barcelona ;))) cheers
What you do sir is gold
Never heard of this place, but now I have a destination to go to. Not too far a couple hour drive. I live south of Boston. . Great video, I grew up on these arcade games, born in 1970 . arcades were THE PLACE to go. I must say I do take exception to your comment about the atari 2600 when you were talking about the ColecoVision. I love and adore the 2600 Soo many great games, I actually have two originals that are modded to connect to an HDTV and have one to a CRT. I know to each his own by man Ms. Pacman, Centipede, Adventure, Phoenex Pitfall, Pitalll II etc such a great system. But anywho love these kind of videos.
Thanks for the video!
The Pins - F14 Tomcat, High Speed, Pinbot are all from the 80's and I think Black Knight might be too.
My favorite game there is Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. I would've been very sad to see it out of order.
More arcade videos please!
I'll take your word for it. I've got to do my homework on pinball machines. Thanks for watching!
Those are all indeed 80s machines.
Thanks for preserving these old cabinets and letting people play on them, that's the biggest thing that harms these older cabinets ironically is allowing the public to wear and tear on them like they were created for. All you see in modern arcades nowadays is non-copyrighted, non licensed cabinets and games, ski-ball, plushy claws, air hockey etc it's disgusting but your spot is really where the arcade experience lives on. The uniqueness of some of these cabinets is what sets arcade gaming apart from the rest, some of these joystick and controller schemes are 1 of 1 as I'm sure you know and can't really be replaced once gone. Maybe nowadays we can 3D print replicas of a lot of these joysticks and buttons to preserve them
The Galloping Ghost Arcade is larger in terms of number of games. GGA houses 1018 video games about 50 pinball machines in a separate building. The arcade and pinball operate on an admission based format. All the games are set for free play. GGA is home to a dozen classic and functioning laserdisc games from the eighties, a couple of dozen unreleased prototype games. Many Japanese only releases, and it is believed to be the only arcade in the US and Japan to have a playable Sega R360. If ever in Chicago, Galloping Ghost Arcade is a MUST.
26:42 What a beautiful collection of machines at this location. That actual Pong cabinet is a historical gem. Wow.
Great to see that places like this are being supported by the general public. Something for everyone here at this place.
Back in High School, me and three friends best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was amazing because I actually never realized that you could beat a game without an endless supply of quarters. We just kept getting extra lives and kept grinding
R & B Sports World in Winsted CT back around 1993.
Great video
Thanks for watching!
Just the glimpse of Gorgar the pinball machine brought back those late 70’s memories that thing had a heart beat that gets you going 😅
Since 43:55 tears in my eyes, how time flies, like it was yesterday when I went to the local arcade with my friends and enjoyed such places... It was in the 80's, a wonderful decade to be a child or a teenager
Great video and I would definitely appreciate a train video 😁
Cool I love arcade 😊
Thanks for watching!
This place holds really good memories for me as an adult. That might sound weird but during Covid and being in the healthcare field, my entire family, including two young children or under a lot of stress and pressure. We decided to takeoff for a few days to get away and ended up at fun spot. Being Covid, the place was nearly empty. The owner who has since passed away, was so happy to see us that he gave my kids a handful of tickets and credits to play video games. He also gave us the plastic cups filled with coins. We played for free for hours and even had enough left over to come back the next year and play for free.He was so kind and generous. He even took my two kids over to the food area and got them free food and drinks. This place is New England gem.
Covid put your family under stress and pressure?!?! Whahaha. Definitely sounds like you were one of those weak minded ones in the 80s that was picked on. Now vaxxed and still wearing a mask for the Bird Flu, right?
I was about to say ghalloping ghost has a lot more. Love that place been going to it for years. 25 dollars you play all night. No need for tokens
I've been here before and it's VERY HUGE.
Sure is! Biggest arcade I've ever been to!
Love that Twilight Zone pinball. Haven't seen one in 20 years
I pray this place never closes . It’s incredible to visit. I try to get up there once a year.
Cool tour of this famous arcade with 3 floors, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
@@fleabittenadventures You mentioned wanting to own Star Wars arcade and some other Pinball machines. For a more affordable alternative, they have some newer 1UP Arcade assembly required options in stores and on amazon. They used to start at $299 but in 2024, go up to 399 to 799, but are much more affordable than the official vintage items if you haven't seen them yet. If so, no problem. Okay, yes, you mentioned Arcade 1UP.
Favorite arcade games: Joust was always a favorite, along with Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug and Samurai Shodown 2. Thanks!
I would buy the Arcade1up Star Wars, but it seems to be sold out everywhere.
@@fleabittenadventures That one sold out fast, you're right.
15:58 😂😂😂😂 "In my defense I never said I was ever any good at these games." 😂😂😂😂😂
That cracked me up.
Ha ha! These games are hard! I'm too used to modern games and using a gamepad or mouse/keyboard. Thanks for watching!
I went there for the candlepin bowling, but the arcade was easily the best part - very impressive collection.
It sure is! Thanks for watching!
In 2015 I went there for the first time. Brought a tear to my eye.
Understandable! That many classic arcades in one place is a rare sight nowadays! Thanks for watching!
That place looks like a paradise in a building. Hopefully, there's some in Michigan Wisconsin and Minnesota
I grew up hanging in the arcades of Montreal city in Canada.I thought I've seen them all. There are many machines here I've never seen in my life lol.
the maintenance of all these facilities and Arcade Machine is insane
I grew up going to FunSpot in the 80s. I took my significant other there last summer. They actually used to have more games back in the day, but it’s still pretty cool. They used to have 5x the number of pinball machines that they have now. The Classic Arcade Museum is amazing.
Fun fact: That exact Sea Skate was on the History Channel show “American Restoration.”
My favorite video games back in the 80s was Tron and Defender.
When we were there, Hercules was working. Fun novelty, but you didn't miss much. They use skee balls for the balls and it is very hard to keep them in play because they're so heavy.
Oh wow! Skee balls! That's massive for a pinball game!
Used to love the cocktail machines. They had them at my local pizza hut throughout the 80s.
Same here! I'd love to own one of those machines! Thanks for watching!
The Gorgar pinball machine is such a classic.
I love this place! I take my family here usually, but it’s been awhile since we’ve gone.
Lady bug and Zaxxon on Colecovision was epic.
I was there summer of 2023 it was fun I would strongly recommend it
big fan of 90s arcade games
Space Invaders, Astroids, and Pac-Man takes me back to the 1980's.
I was just at Galloping Ghost for the first time last month and it is pretty amazing, but the one thing that bothered me is the cramped space in there. Which I understand it’s not their fault but I like that Fun Spot has space to breathe and a great layout. Love to get a chance to go check it out one day.
I went here every Summer in the 90s. It's wild that the bumper cars and the creepy gremlin are still there! I was sad to see the King's throne is no longer present...
One of my favorite ones was the four player gauntlet game arcade and spy Hunter. Also the Indiana Jones game. Also beast wars as crystal bear .not many people like marble madness but I do
Gauntlet II was probably in my top 3 games of all time! I don't remember an Indiana Jones game though. Thanks for watching!
You stood behind one of my favorites - APB by Atari. It’s a silly game but I’m pretty sure I played the exact same machine around 1989 when it was located inside an old pizza restaurant down the street from Funspot.
Another favorite of mine was Hard Drivin’ which was another old sit-down driving simulator by Atari. Sadly when I was there last time this past August, the machine was pulled from the floor.
My wife and I try to get up to funspot as much as possible. We have a little bed and breakfast we stay at.
I love funspot so much.
Ps: as per someone who worked there a couple years ago. That is NOT the same DK machine. They have that one put away. And yes... the employee said the same thing you mentioned. They have hundreds of games in storage and they swap them out.
They usually have a yearly tournament in july... ive never been but... looking to go this year.
(Not that im good at anything like that lol)
I feel so blessed to be within a reasonable driving distance from this place (hour and a half drive). I was actually really lucky to get a chance to play their computer space machine before they took it off the floor.
Stumbled across this video from my recommendations. I was about to say how this place seems better than Galloping Ghosts since half the machines there are out of order, but watching further into this video, I can see the same can mostly be said about this place too. I guess these machines are just breaking down that much more as time continues.
So many of these can be considered my favorite (especially ninja turtles), but I gotta say that Star Wars Arcade? I’m an 90s kid and Atari was before my time. But those vector graphics are probably the best thing the 70s brought to gaming history
Awesome place, we just never got even close to arcades like that here in UK.
I would love too go there looks like fun
The kids that live close by are so lucky. They might have similar memories about the arcade like their parent’s
I love how Sinistar can always be heard no matter where you are.
I went there before they were considered classic. Lol. The mini-golf was great. Hate it being gone
Story Book Forest was closed by the time I started going there, but I seem to recall a candy or ice cream shop where the entrance to Story book Forest had been that was done up like the cottage from HANSEL AND GRETEL. And, that Hansel and Gretel statue and gingerbread witch were there. Wondering if they still have somebody dress up as Topsnuff walking around the place or if they stopped that. Skee Ball and those little bumper cars were my favorite thing to do there when I was a kid.
Wow I can smell the fried burritos, nachos and popcorn still to this day! I went to a place called Shazam's! and also a place called Texas Tom's back in the early '80s, I am 53 now and this video just brought me back 40 plus years!!!!!🥹
These places were in Kansas City by the way
looks intresting
What a great place... I hope you took some time to play after making the video
I'll be going here in a couple weeks and I can't wait. Too bad they don't have Computer Space on the floor though.
very cool. the one thing they didnt have was Dragon's Lair and Space Ace...
Yes! I'll bet Dragon's Lair is almost impossible to maintain because it uses a Laser Disc, which I would guess is VERY hard to maintain. Thanks for watching!
I remember seeing one of these cocktail games at a Papa Gino’s.
Hopefully when Galloping Ghost expands and adds the 2nd floor they said they have the permit for, they'll get some elbow room like this place.
Funny thing.. I've lived in NH for 12 yrs.. about15 miles from funspot.. even used to work down the road a bit... have never ever been...
Hey Tom have you ever been to the Cumberland mall in Vineland nj? Would love to see a video on it
Not yet, but I plan to get to all of NJ and PA by the end of 2025, hopefully.
21:32 two of my all time favorite old school games-centipede and millipede.
Great walk through, I wonder how many techs they have working there now. It’s sad to see so many of the games not working & them replacing some of the crt’s with lcd’s - I understand it’s an easy fix for reliability, but rebuilding a monitor properly is not that difficult to keep the original.
I remember in '89 it was 100 tokens for $20. Same token amount all these years later.
I used to go there as a kid when we visited the lake in the summer time... Is the drive in theater still open? From New Bedford now in Jacksonville Florida... I would love to return to that area with my wife...
Thanks for the back. Perhaps the machines in the cases are favored because they have more original parts, earned more revenue or have earlier production dates. just guessing
That could be why some are in the cases. Hard to say. Thanks for watching!
they should film a video game tournament here like "video armageddon" from "The Wizard" with contestants from every state coming to compete in different tournaments based on genre (I.E: fighting, racing, puzzle, etc for best high scores)
They may have! Check out the movie "King of Kong".
@@fleabittenadventures I mean an ACTUAL tournament on National TV
I'd watch it
Sorry This isn't the World's Largest Arcade. That goes to the Galloping Ghost! Which has over 1000+ Games and this place only having 600!
Yep, this channel is lying.
Real Fun Spot is in Orlando!😮
This one is much older than the one in Orlando
Only an hr from me 😊
Is this the same Funspot that was featured in the A Fistfull Of Quarters documentary where they had the Donkey Kong world champion tournament?
Yes, that's the one. Thanks for watching.
Yes this is same place. I've only been to funspot once but it was awesome. I don't recall which games but some machines had little placqes on the stating "donated by" and noticed the name Robert Myrzack (spelled wrong my bad). That was the wild ref guy in king of Kong that worked like 60 hours a week accounting then in his spare time he went thru huge piles of VHS tapes all night, what a guy. RIP his big fat cat.
@@MistaTofMaine That's awesome! I live in Canada but this place is definitely on my bucket list to check out within the next 5 years!
My Battlezone is out of order as well. Need to pull the board and work through it.
That's a lot of games out of order. That would be a major bummer for someone who travelled a long way to go there.
