Emmi Uimonen’s master concert ”The Wind Machine” consists of new pieces she has composed and arranged during the last year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a road trip across Europe from Finland to Italy and back, and at home in Helsinki.
The wind, amongst other natural forces, has been a significant source of inspiration for Uimonen in the composing process. In the pieces it can be heard as a description of the dance of the heys on a field in the Tuscan countryside, and as the raw power with which it blasts the Atlantic waves into the beach of Ipanema. At the level of ideas, the wind has inspired Uimonen in terms of how to approach composing and creative work, allowing a free and untamed flow across human-made borders and through the walls of the boxes of different genres, whirling between modern interpretations of jazz, samba, choro, and Nordic folk music.
