A herd of elephants created chaos at Tezpur in Assam’s Sonitpur district on June 3 morning. This was after the herd of elephants strayed into the Cotton Road area of the town in search of food and attacked three people. Those injured were rushed to the nearest hospital. As per reports, the elephants have come from Kaziranga National Park and Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food and higher grounds.
Meanwhile in another incident in the same area, a mother elephant along with its calf strayed into one of the houses. The occurrence was captured on camera by one of the residents where the elephants can be seen startled after hearing dogs bark. The pachyderm and its calf, however, did not cause any damage.
Heavy rainfall in the past few days has led to flooding in most parts of Kaziranga National Park. As per officials, 178 of the 233 forest camps inside the park are under at least five feet of water.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra River is also flowing above the danger level at several locations. The floods have inundated many areas across the state forcing families to take shelter at relief camps or move to higher grounds.
