As someone who has hit those notes though it’s definitely possible, it just takes insane work to make them sound that good, my range is Bb0-E6 but anything above about G5 I probably wouldn’t try in a solo without tons and tons of practice
@@upsidedownpyramid7617 same bro. All about Puckering up. That high up I think less about buzzing and more out fast air and the pitch I want to play. Also she probably had tons of practice but that doesn’t mean this ain’t a crazy solo
Like other said, I also have heard some other trombone virtuoso play in this high range (watrous, steinmeyer, layton, etc) , but what is special with Grunhild is her sound, eerie and very humane like no other I ever heard from anybodyelse (similar with theremin like some other people said in the comment), she is a magic
This is a wonderful solo. Definitely not the highest. Dave Steinmeyer routinely played ballads in this range. Skip Layton with the Kenton orchestra used to blast out some stuff up that way in the 1940's. Many players can get up there for sure.
i think the thing that makes me this so impressive is how she’s able to play those high notes at such a low dynamic. like wow i can’t help but have to play a little loud with those notes lol
Hey trombonist and trumpeter friends you don't hear that she sings in the treble!! You have watery ears my bros? It's an old trick, you don't know that..😊 She caught you well.
Judging by the tone quality when the line descends from the top into the middle/ low register, it doesn't seem likely that she is singing into the horn to me. If she really was singing, that would've meant making her singing and playing tone quality unbelievably similar during the descent.
@@ohshitnotanotherknob Hello, I agree with you, Gunhild Carling is a very good musician and plays many instruments with taste. However, she is also a musician as an circus artist! I won't change my mind, I think she sings in the treble. As for the descending phrase, that doesn't prove anything at all. Everyone has tricks especially in this environment and keep them well hidden. Anyway, in the end, I don't care, and it doesn't matter whether she sings or not, she's still a good musician. A word of advice, don't try to copy it, it's like swallowing sabers under the big top, dangerous!. Especially if you don't have a 'lady's voice' or don't play trump.. (read Michael Shelley comment).Being a trumpeter I can do the same thing with something that I won't tell you...
I think its a possibility. My brother when playing trombone in collage would often sing the trumpet high C at the end of the National Anthem through his trombone and knock your socks off. that was in the 70's. This gal is capable of anything and could probably choose to play or sing. She can play 3 trumpets at the same time!
Interesting discussion! Definitely possible, Gunhild is full of 'tricks'. My mind isn't made up but either way, it's still very impressive to pull off a good trick.
So insane, and her coming back down into the regular range with such badass power was amazing!!
As a trombone player I can confirm that is crazy hard
Sounds like she is singing into it

I think so too. In fact, I thought it was a joke until she came back down to earth and started whaling.
more trombone transcriptions would be great!

Yes she is Gunhild Carling from Sweden, she is terrific

Yeah, forgive the bit of UA-cam hyperbole!
This woman is a great trumpet player too Kyle, guess that could help playing those super high notes.
it certainly does....I'm a trumpet player who plays baritone......so much easier to hit those over the top notes!!!
Yeah, I played the trumpet for twenty years and always struggled with the high range. Now with trombone I struggle with the low range!
That would make sense
AMAZING

After playing trumpet for over 30 years, Gunhild and James Morrison pushed me into playing the trombone.
Oh my goodness😮
Sounds like a theramin
Yooo what that's crazy
The recording is actually in A major, but I've noticed a lot of recordings can be half a note lower than the original transcription.
Meravigliosa ❤️
The start was meant to be in treble clef I’m pretty sure because this first few notes sounded a lot higher than what was actually written
no, the line with the 8 on it above all the notes means you play the note under the line an octave up
Trombone? Brother thats a Theremin
Made squeal notes sound good
Looks like a theremin hahaha
素晴らしい。
👍

Me when I touched the Trombone for the first time:
HI Kyle, next week the grand prix of Formula 1 will take place there in Australia, how about a look at F1 main theme?
Oh yes, I drive past Albert Park on my way to work everyday!
You guys should have her name in this
It's in the description but I've updated it so it appears in the first two lines. Thanks for pointing it out.

No she didn't, you need to check out the talent this amazing lady has instead of trying to nitpick.

Sounds like a singing saw. She’s got balls! 👍🏻
