Yes I would say you need money for ham radio Stu. It's a money pit to be honest. Depending what coverage you need. A decent full coverage is always going to cost you. I started off with a Yaesu 450D. Traded it in for a radio with a waterfall (IC7300). Then bought a 991A and a FTM400XDE for mobile. Then the focus was on antennas. Living in a small property with an even smaller garden, I couldn't get out much so went from a cobweb to a yagi (in came rotators and masts) Yes it's a costly hobby getting things set up the way you want it. But most of all we are never happy with with what we have, we always want to try and improve it regardless once that bug bites or if you're a frugal ham (most of us aren't) it can be cheap. Glad to see you got a move mate Thanks for sharing Stu Rab MM7BVP
I love my 891, DSP every bit as good as my FTDX10, reports are just as good. They are a bit of a sleeper to be honest, and often passed over for something with a SDR display
No comparison to me tbh it’s all in the antenna antenna antenna then location. Had lots of Top radios over the years and then finally Relised it’s the antenna is the Most so I put up a 3 element yagi and now use a g90 at home And portable
Just thinking how much I've spent on ham radio over the last few years! The great thing is it holds its value 👍
