    I'm surprised the religious fundamentalists haven't turned up in here yet. Then again, maybe it's because we already know what they'll say before they even think about going to an apologist website to copy/pasting something. It's not difficult to be all-knowing with that lot. :)

      Lucy called him El. The other half of the Abrahamic god. Yahweh is the sick bloodthirsty thunder gad. He was merged with El who is the grandfatherly diety who loves and dotes on its worshippers. That's why you get two impressions of the god of Abraham. The one that loves and cares for you when it's not torturing or killing you. Simple. Nothing weird there.

    So if there is an all-knowing god, then there cannot be free will, right? Because this all-knowing god already knew EVERY decision that everyone would ever make in their entire lives--before the creation of the universe. If free will truly exists, then god cannot know what decision you will make at any given moment. If there is free will, then god is NOT all-knowing.

    • @geshtu1760
      @geshtu1760 8 років тому +2

      +Tom Fields Believers get around this by saying that God's knowledge of our future actions does not prevent our free will, because we still have a choice - but he just happens to know the outcome. I know it's not intuitive, but consider the following analogy:
      Say I construct a computer program that performs some tasks, and then at various intervals it generates a random number and based on that number decides to do one thing or the other. Given that it is inherently random, it is therefore not deterministic, right? But suppose you generated the exact same sequence of random numbers in advance, and then fed those into the system one by one. Exactly the same outcome, yet we had foreknowledge. Do you see the point?
      I personally still think the result is that free will is therefore only at best an illusion (if we allow complete foreknowledge), but theists will often still argue the point.
      For me the part that is not easily dismissed is that of God's free will, which this video explained very well. If God knows what *he* will do next, then he has no free will. Further, if God exists outside of time, then there is no sequence of events, meaning no movement (velocity = distance / time, so no time means no velocity, i.e. no movement). The video picked up on this as well.
      Theists say that God exists outside space and time purely because the idea of a god being inside space and time has been falsified. They think putting him outside space and time makes him unfalsifiable, but in fact it just makes him meaningless. It is incoherent. Anything completely outside space and time cannot exist. There is no space to exist in, and there is no time in which to be anything except motionless and static. He can't even be a concept, because a concept requires a physical brain to think it.
      I think that'll do - lol :)

    • @LabGecko

      @@geshtu1760 Apologies for the resurrection (heh) of this topic, but I just got here. A minor quibble: It is possible (likely even) that things outside space and time of _this_ universe do in fact exist. They just have no bearing whatsoever on _this_ universe or its physics, and as such as you mentioned, don't matter to this universe.

    • @nathanjora7627
      @nathanjora7627 3 роки тому +2

      @@cherkas009 It’s kinda implied with « me and the father are one », but admittedly it’s nowhere explicitly and it’s hard to not have the trinity, and have Jesus be the son of god literally, ‘cause without trinity that makes Christians polytheists.
      I mean, they are, obviously their loophole is nonsense and it doesn’t matter wether you call your god singular or not, if there are three entirely different and independent persona that are each called god then it’s polytheism, but at least they can deluded themselves into thinking they are monotheists, and not at all those other people with a singular deity that has so many personalities nobody sane would ever think of calling it monotheism (aka Hinduism).

    • @LabGecko
      @LabGecko 3 роки тому +1

      I liked that line. Interesting, on a serious note, that's actually a great point. Knowledge does not necessarily imply understanding. So a deity who knows all would not necessarily understand all as well. They could, ostensibly, know every name of every person in history, recite every minute moment of their lives, but not understand _why_ they died.

    A blank slate would be giving Trump way too much credit. A blank piece of putty, that can be formed, crumpled up and then re-formed almost instantly (depending on the audience), would be far more descriptive. Oh yeah, the putty would always have to wear a pointy white hat, and be re-formed by slamming it against a great wall, the greatest ever built.
