------------------
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries before 2020 and all 7 continents, we have no plans to slow down anytime soon, and we are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
For me as someone from the UK, this really puts into perspective how massive the US is! If I were to drive 2500 miles from my house, I would reach Kazakhstan. And I'd pass through 7 countries; France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia. The fact that you can drive for 2500 miles and still be in the same country is mind blowing to me!
No one asked dan😂🤡
That's false Dan, if you were to drive from the UK to Kazakhstan you'd of travelled 3,789 miles (that's the shortest route, with light traffic)
@@Joshua-bv5bo Ah, thanks for checking that for me! I just had another look on Google maps and it turns out I made a bit of a mistake. I was measuring as the crow flies instead of by road. The Kazakhstan border is give or take 2500 miles away from London directly, but this didn't take roads into account
@@danlyle531 wow u reply to bozo joshua but not me🤡
@@deletedvideos. he's not gonna shag you
As someone who doesn't live in the us, I always hear about cities like LA and NY, quite refreshing to see other quieter sites as well!!
Yess there are so many other amazing places
Yeah really awesome and incredible cities👍🏻
The US is HUGE
The US is huge and has many many cliffs and valleys, cities and hamlets, mountains and plains, and cool sight to see. You can easily spend years to see half of the cool attractions littered across the country
If you are interested in more Route 66 stuff I highly suggest checking out Justin Scarred. He did the complete route 66 road trip.
I worked in hotels for 18 years. I was always taught, if you park your car in front of you door and enter from outside, it’s a motel. If you enter through a lobby area and go to your room using a hallway, it’s a hotel.
And a motel wouldn't require as much staff as a hotel, right? Just the owner/receptionist and housekeeping? Motels usually don't have that much in the way of amenities. It's just a place to sleep for the night, maybe they have a pool and a laundry room. Just the basics for road-trippers.
I was today years old.
In UK some motels have hallways 😉
@@helenbingham9836 that’s interesting, is there any other similarities or differences??
@@cowsrock1q omg saaame
I’m from Australia and did a 3 week, 3000+ mile Route 66 trip from Chicago to Vegas back in 2013 and it was so wonderful to watch this vlog and remember all the amazing places and sights. Thank you guys and stay safe
Lets not underestimate that Kara and Nate are a huge part of global 2020 recovery efforts 😄 keeping a million of us sane and inspired during these crazy time ❤❤❤
Haha very true! Even traveling full time well slow travel 😂 in 2020 we still have been tuning in for every vlog!
Ya who cares about the travel advisory
How I've always defined the difference in motels and hotels:
If you access your room from the outside, it's a motel. If you access your room from inside in a hallway, it's a hotel.
That’s what I’ve always heard as well.
Right. If you can drive up to the door of your room, that's a motel. Sometimes even branded a "Motor Inn". Lol. I have a strict rule to never again sleep in a motel after a couple of scary experiences as a kid. It is one of the few things about which I am not willing to be cheap!
I agree...“motel” means you access the doors to each room from the outside and “hotel” means you access the doors to each room from the inside (hallway).
I heard Motel..move on
Hotel..home
But the door explanation seems right
Motels are low like the letter m. Hotels are tall like the letter l.
Who else here always watches as soon as they post?
🎉
I do
Yep. I look forward to the videos.
I try to but school gets in the way but Kara and Nate are wayyyy more important
Pretty sure I'm one of them.
Great video!
Being european, I'm sort of fascinated by all the quirky, little known tourist traps along those american roads.
Also, "I kinda feel like we're back at Chernobyl" is an awesome line!
I love how they always find weird adventures that I would never think of
Don't you have a neighborhood flasher to tease ?
I just posted a video on my road trip around the US if you want to check it out😁
Were are you from?😊
The only thing I know about Route 66 is that its a song from the movie “Cars”.
Thats all facts. Thought it was only a thing in "Cars"
You showing you age but I guess we are too! It was a Nat King Cole song from the late 50's or early 60's.
@@TravelingTramps Get York Kicks on Route 66 is honestly a great song.
OMG, SO I *WAS* RIGHT ABOUT HAVING ROUTE 66 ON CARS!!!!!
@@MVPMrSimp-fo3xk What??? What if they don't live in the USA, like me, WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT??!
*Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything* - Charles Kuralt.
Way to be intentional about seeing America how it's meant to be seen! Route 66 seems incredible!
Oh, how I loved this. Route 66 is one of those uniquely American experiences. It really does sum up what this country is about. I don't think that people not from here can fully comprehend that, across 3,000 miles of land that is vastly different in weather and topography, you also see differences in other areas too: cuisine, culture, history, dialects, architecture and sheer personality. As you drive, it's like experiencing a kaleidoscope; all different but merging into one. More than anything else, driving across the US really does epitomize the "melting pot" that IS this country.
I know you get tons of comments and will probably never read this but i just want to say thank you guys so much. Suffering from manic depression life is a constant battle for me i am so grateful to have found this channel it brings me so much joy. You guys are so optimistic and your outlook has been helping me change my mindset. I always look forward to waking up and watching you 2! Thank you for this you 2 are doing far more than just sharing your awesome journey!

“Know where we’re going to know where we came from” lots of people really needs to hear this
they say the same line in the Cars Movies, that’s all i could think about
Nate: ‘stops the car’
Kara: what are you doing?
Nate: I’ve never seen a tumble weed before 😂
I know right my yard is full of them lol
You need to get out more
Only thing worse was he didn't know the difference between Motel and Hotel

We loved route 66 and its a shame a lot of it gets overlooked by the interstate because there are cool towns!!! Even Petrified Forest NP. Williams is so cute. That ice cream!!

They’re from Nashville, they don’t get crazy weather like the Midwest gets.
That was the smallest hail I’ve ever seen lol

I love it when Kara and Nate go to places that you've been to before! It sort of Confirms that the place is cool!
I love how you just park and never know what you’ll wake up too, and it’s always beautiful!
British people on the accent : you go Kara
British people on pasta being called noodles : erm
I’m not even British and I made a face when she said noodles 🤣
I say noodles. It might be a regional thing.
They're egg noodles. It's a specific kind of pasta, but it isn't Italian, so it's kind of weird to call it pasta.
A motel is entered from the outside, a hotel is entered from the inside. At least that's how my grandparents always explained it.
That is my experience too
I think a hotel has to serve food and drink
It depends. Like some Motel 6's enter from the inside and some motels serve food and drink.
One storey🤔
Yep, according to my dad and grandparents a motel is an establishment in which you can enter your room from the parking lot. Affectively allowing you the motor up to your door. A hotel has a front desk and you enter your room via a interior hallway.
I LOVE Kara And Nate’s longer videos!
That's so great people came together to keep all that historical safe and perseved
We used to have a Route 66 diner in my town. Sadly it closed due to corona and just not many customers but I loved going there when I was little. The theme was turquoise and white and they had these giant squishy booths. The whole interior was decorated with old pictures and antique art pieces. It was a pretty neat place to eat.
The hail blooper had me crying because we get hail the size of SOFTBALLS in OK and TX.
Well its official I've have now caught up and watched all you're videos. Thanks for making quarantine a little more enjoyable...love from Montana 😊
You guys should travel up to Minnesota and to the North Shore of Lake Superior! We have very good coffee ☺️

That is intense! But has to be a cool experience. Awesome to see his story and northern Arizona highlighted!

In the voice of Chandler Bing.. "could u guys be more adorable" 🤩
Awwww I could hear it as I read it!!! 😁
I drove Route 66 from Victorville, CA to Chicago, IL during the summer celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Mother Road. What a surreal experience of Americana
I think you guys should seriously consider doing a several months-long trip on Route 66. There is so much to see and do on and near 66. With your van, it would be the best way to do it. Hope you guys do it.
We went to the Musical Road earlier this year, and the song played perfectly for us! You have to go exactly 45 miles an hour and make sure that the tires are exactly on the right path. It is sad that they don't have any signs up anymore to tell you where it is! Great video!
Always excited to see the amazing editing skills
Kara has inspired us with her editing skills :) too good :)
THAT HEART THAT HE WAS SPRAY PAINTING ON, I SPRAY PAINTED THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - featured
Hahaha love this
Yep, Nate, motels are usually one story. They were intended to make it easy to pull off the road, park your car in front of your room and sleep for the night. Usually short stays and frequently not intended as a destination spot (but not always) When things settle down, try US 60, Arizona, New Mexico. Blue Ridge Parkway, in your neck of the woods, San Juan Skyway, Colorado ( on 4 wheels instead of 2) Peak to Peak Highway, Co in the fall. Independence Pass into Aspen in the fall. Lots more but these are ones I've travelled and enjoyed.
Nate's excitement over seeing his first tumbleweed had me cracking up! (I used to live in AZ, so they're really nothing special to me) I love how these two appreciate even the smallest moments in life!
Motel = door face outside (parking lot), Hotel = door faces inside (hallway)
Exactly. Park outside your motel room and carry your bag straight through from your car. Hotel has corridors.
I heard once originally a hotel had a resteraunt in it and a motel didn't
yup, exactly - your car is (usually) parked right in front of your room, which is why all motels are single story, although some more recent ones are multi story to cram more guests in. Thats the 'MOtor' part of the MOTEL :)
Nate’s first time seeing a tumbleweed - so cute. Oh the little things 😅
Kara attempted British and Texan accents in one video, that's a first! Thank you both for all the wonderful content to keep me sane in crazy 2020. Welcome home and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
One thing about motels is they don't offer a whole lot. You get a place to sleep, maybe there's a restaurant across the parking lot, maybe they have a pool and laundry facilities. No business center, no upscale restaurant, likely no continental breakfast, no concierge. It's just the very basics for a family on a road trip. Makes sense these would start popping up along route 66 during its heyday.
16:22, for some reason it kinda shocked me when Nate said “my wife.” I guess he more often calls her Kara and so I’m used to that.
my family and I watch you guys every time you post a video (hopefully you don’t think I’m weird)

I'm thinking about this route for early spring next year! Really excited to watch you two travel down and see what it's like.
My family just got a camper two dogs one 3 year old me (12) and my parents can’t wait to go to the mountains in spring.
I’m from NC but when they said “ the sky was blue 15 minutes ago and now it’s hailing” that is a prime example of deep southern weather sunny one minute and raining, hailing, or snowing the next
The World is so nice with drone filming.
I love your content!!!!❤️❤️

24:14 "We are going to take this as a sign ... that we need a coffee" - you two take everything as a sign for getting a coffee ;)
America truly is big and beautiful.
Fun facts: the town of peach springs Arizona was the inspiration for radiator springs and Cadillac ranch was the inspiration for the mountains you can see in the background for RS in cars
I literally stayed up til 1am Brisbane time to watch this video and I have no regrets 😍

I love how Nate got so excited about seeing a tumbleweed!
We always drive to Arizona during spring break and we have never gone and missed the Cadillac Ranch!! It’s alwayse sooo fun
That is the greatest Audible ad I've ever watched! Love keeping up with you guys
It's not just that Route 66 "doesn't exist anymore"... when the interstates went in *overnight* 100% of traffic was diverted away from what were once thriving towns with economies that depended largely on the more than one million cars passing through. These towns were thrust into depressions which further worsened as the residents fled and businesses shuttered. It was a tragedy in the truest sense of the word, which is why Angel is such a hero. The Route 66 Association he created sparked new life in many of these towns by giving travelers a reason to get off the interstate and see a part of US history.
Loved seeing you two stop in my hometown of Amarillo. Next time you go back, check out Palo Duro Canyon! I really think you would enjoy it.
I visited the canyon back in the 90's. I was stunned at how it just appeared out of nowhere
@@judydoyle1124 it doesn't get the hype it deserves! It's smaller than the Grand Canyon but the colors are prettier... in my opinion.
Why is the Mercedes logo on the steering wheel blurred out all of a sudden?
Because this video was sponsored so they can’t show any other company logo that’s not the one they’re sponsored by
So funny when Nate got out to see/film the tumbleweed 😂
My (then) husband and myself did this same thing when we moved from Seattle to Boise, ID. We saw one go across the road and we were SO excited! LOL! Kids... gotta love 'em.
