It's been a year since I bought these, and I still use them everyday! I use them wired though because my desktop doesn't have bluetooth (don't ask) and I prefer the convenience of in-ear earbuds when outside (considering I have an afro lol). Your video made me buy these and I never once doubted my purchase. They're excellent!
FYI, using them wired will not allow you to use ANC.

I keep thinking about upgrading these TaoTronics 90s to a new Sony or Bose pair when those are on sale, but at this point I'm just going to rock these until they give out. I did NOT expect the Tronys to last many years when I bought them for $60. I've convinced myself they sound good even though I've owned far more expensive headphones and earbuds in the past - I looked up on UA-cam just now to see if I'm crazy. Nice review.

I haven't checked all your videos yet but would be nice to compare against Edifier 860 or their newer mid range 820. If you live in Melbourne I could lend you mine to review. I'm new here. The amount of detail in this review is immense. Instantly subscribed!
I used to have the Bluedio F2 ANC. The sound was decent for the price but ANC was just horrible. Horrible in a sense that it barely blocks any background nose (tested it when I was riding a bus or walking down the street) and I can still here the noises as if it wasn't being blocked at all. But the worst part is the audio quality plummets big time
This is why I'm very concern about budget ANC headphones. I was eyeing the Edifier W830BT but I'll pick these one up instead. Thanks again for the video

Don't care about ANC. More about build quality/durability and also audio quality. Comford is 3rd priority. I also have a big head. And a bit above average ears.

I love my TaoTronics SoundSurge 90 and it's unfortunate the problems that this company has been having with these headphones and the misstep that they took with Amazon. But, nevertheless, they are still the best sounding modestly priced speakers that I have tried out. Also, the fact that this video is even comparing them to a $300 pair of Sony headphones speaks volumes.

Sony mark 4s are heavy on the bass, dark and warm sounding
I can see why you're saying they're "consumer" friendly. But to anyone that likes a balanced sound, this is far far from balanced. Bass is boomy, and always bleeds into the mids. If you're after fast punchy bass, look elsewhere. Bass needs to be Eqd back, Mids need 1/2 db boost, and treble gets better (stock treble roll off ruins the sound)
    EQ:
I would've returned my pair, but the headphones along the xm3 respond very well to eq. The EQed xms are good, mainly recommended a -4 db to low end, +2 db to 2-4k and tweak the highs to liking, for me it's +2 db at 16k. This works great on samsung phones which let's you keep ldac and the headphones are eqd from Samsung's settings that work on Spotify and Tidal and revert to normal when headphones are disconnected
Tldr: Extremely warm and bass heavy, and sounds dark and bleeds into mids. Stock sound is quite terrible, even on hip hop with sloppy bass, but if EQd its best in class. Prefer them over QC35 Mark 2 and Bose700. But only when eqd, otherwise its the worse in my opinion

Hi. Thanks for the review/comparison which was really good....but, like nearly every review I've seen for headphones, it doesn't tackle what I would consider a very important factor - sound leakage. If I'm sitting next to my "better half" on the sofa and she's watching TV and I want to stay in the room but listen to music etc. on the phones at what sound level will any sound leakage start to annoy her? Similarly in a quiet environment with TV off, at what sound level will the phones start to leak and annoy. In a public space, say travelling on a bus or train, again at what sound levels will these annoy passengers sitting next to me or close by. Perhaps there is zero leakage even at the highest volume?? It would be a nice to know. Just one other thing, using the phones with the audio cable plugged in. Is there any sound quality difference over bluetooth with either the ANC on or off? Great video and very helpful in all other aspects though. I'm looking at possibly purchasing the TaoTronics for Christmas. Cheers.

    • @pickyaudio

You mentioned playing Call of Duty with the TaoTronics, care to share your experience with them? can you hear where the gunshots are coming from? also is there a way for you to turn off the Headphone's mic (while connected via blue tooth on a phone) and just use the default phone mic instead? because the only deal-breaker I see here is the mic, which can easily be fixed with something like a V-moda boom pro (because you're pretty much tethered to the front of your screen while playing anyway), and talking to your phone in public to let the person you're talking to understand what you're saying seems better than a crappy headphone mic

Of course, I've only had mine for a year. I think I paid a little over $60 for them. They are in pristine condition, but no longer work. Yes, I've walked through all the steps to try to get them back online - no dice. It's not really worth contacting Taotronics and going through that hassle, so instead, I just won't ever buy another thing from them. What can I say? The true difference between Sony and Taotronics? I'd be willing to bet that after a year, a pair of Sony earphones would still be working.

I got these headphones on Amazon in September 2020. I hardly used them, mostly on planes when travelling. But now, the ear cushions are falling apart. Last time I used them, they made my white t-shirt dirty with black dust. They were fine before that, but now I need to find new cushions for them.

I think I'm definitely gonna pick up a pair of the TaoTronics. I've owned the Sony XM3 and sent them back after a few weeks. Build quality was a pretty big disappointment for something that costs upwards of $300-400, the headband would make creaking/cracking sounds which I temporary fixed with sticky tape (not ideal but worked for a while), they sounded awful when connected via 3.5mm and I even experienced semi-frequent drops in audio quality when using them via Bluetooth. Only thing I liked about them was the audio quality when it was behaving and the noise cancelling.
You'd think that if a company like TaoTronics can make very similar headphones with similar noise cancelling/audio quality and include metal in the structure, Sony should be able to as well, no? Whether Sony improved the build quality with the XM4's or not, I've sorta lost faith in Sony's headphones overall. First experience could've, and should've, been way better.
I've been debating whether to get the SoundSurge 85 or 90, but after hearing that the 90 now has USB C, I'll definitely have to get a pair. I've heard that the noise cancelling and audio quality is slightly better on the SoundSurge 90 compared to the SoundSurge 85. Overall great review. I've owned a pair of TaoTronics' wireless earbuds and they were great overall, so I've got high hopes for the SoundSurge 90's!

the thing about trony is they focus on the actual product so a majority of the price goes into the product rather then the branding and the box thats why the sony's cost a ton more but sound slightly better a majority of the cost of the sony's went into stuff like marketing branding and box design where the box and the contents inside still try to sell the product to you whereas trony has simple boxes that are pretty much just there to contain the headphones rather then being a marketing tool plus they don't mark up their products and use their brand as an excuse to do so plus they didn't bump the price up with touch controls (i hate touch controls buttons are nicer and more precise especially with earbuds where you don't have to slam your finger into your ear)

So the sound quality, noise cancelling, and most things audio related are fantastic for the price. The problem is the Bluetooth technology in the device is subpar. It constantly connects w/ no sound. Eventually if I fiddle with it for hours it'll magically turn on. I have a routine I go through now... no idea what the issue is. Basically useless at this point, though it still works plugged in.
