It's insteresting how you've described it! I think they put a lot of acting into their dance and it creates such result, but I haven't thought of this wording!
I know I am very late to the game on this video, but I just found it. I think these two are not only great dancers but great performers as well. I'm quite impressed with the acting part actually. I like them just as well as Chico n Juana even though their styles are very different.
@tatusha Thanks for your comment! Melina & Claudio have never been in any competitive ballroom dancing and lived and learned to dance in Buenos Aires all their lives. You can see it by their embrace - it has nothing to do with the rigid ballroom embrace. However, there are such distinct trends in Argentine tango as social tango (Salon and Milonguero) and Tango Escenario (stage tango). (continued)
@tatusha They are highly valued for their creativity and incredible technical ability, and for the fact that they have made stage tango as much closer to social tango. Their classes in Buenos Aires are always full and they get invited to teach and perform at such epicenters of social dance as Practica X and La Viruta because they are indeed social dancers who work in the stage tango genre. I'm sure if you talk to you favorite Argentine maestros they'll tell you the same thing.
@tatusha Stage tango always implies choreography, it's a requirement, but it doesn't mean stage dancers don't dance socially. Tango Escenario, even in Buenos Aires, is often repetitive, low quality and cheesy. Melina & Claudio have gained tremendous respect from their peers in tango circles in Buenos Aires and all over the world for discovering something completely new, artistic and creative within the stage tango. I'm new to tango but have danced other styles for some time. This is a fine performance by 1st rate dancer/atheletes. It is interesting in that it demonstrates the potential of the dance. But, is it really a dance? It is a choreographed routine that legitimately elicits earlier comments of too much acting. That's where it loses me. Maybe I'm being too critical but I look at it to see not only potential movements but clues to leading. Still, it is a fine perfomance and they are amazing dancers.
To me Tango is a way to express affection and deep connection between a Man and a Woman. Here, i can't feel any warmth and humanity in their performances. they are like two robots going through motions. apparently a strong influence from competitive-style ballroom dances that are always irritatingly fake and compulsive.
que les falta musicalidad dicen? pasión? fuego? a estos dos no les falta nada, son grosos en lo que hacen. Ya quisieran algunos criticones bailar un cuarto de lo que bailan ellos...a lavarse la boquita antes de hablar
Bravo! Beautiful!
