In just a few minutes, I finally understand how Paris is laid out. I did not understand why some neighborhoods or areas were quarters, nor why some neighborhoods changed their names so frequently in different articles who would state that the layout was unchanged since the 17th, 18th or19th century depending on the article. I didn't understand why the Latin Quarter was also the 6th and also called St. Germaine Dr Pres as well as another name I cannot recall. Simply looking at the list of quarters laid out by arrondissement told me that the names were the different quarters, that the conflicting information came from writers who also did not understand that there is more than quarter per arrondissement and also that most authors in the New York Times didn't really know the city any better than I. They were assigning the more famous names to the arrondisement. Okay! I've got it! Thank you!! I doubt that I will memorize the map but I don't want to carry a map around. I think that I will explore a quarter each day and that will also give me time to enjoy each individual quarter. Which is the whole point.
Thank you for this! We spend a month in France a year and I am missing it terribly. I cannot wait to wander, sit, and soak up the city and country again.
Thank you for another well crafted and entertaining presentation of Paris. Special thanks to your Dad, your original Patron ( from the Latin pater, patr- “father”), for his support and encouragement . ( Followers don’t forget to read Jay’s Biographical account of how he got to Paris “ Sea of the Unknown”)
I can already tell that I’m gonna love this series! Walking the unfamiliar quartiers with you while you also learn about new places. That’s one of the best things about wandering ❤️. I also liked the little bit of trivia added in - one of my suggestions for bookclub is going to be the biography of Coco Chanel. Thanks Jay!
Great! When I was in Paris in August, having a "balade" through the quarters was practically my favorite pastime, except eating ice cream. Can't wait for seeing you to explore the lesser known arrondissements!
I am loving this! A nice slow stroll, and popping into shops. I know it probably isn't possible for each quarter, but it would be fun to have you go into at least one shop or restaurant/coffee shop/bakery per quarter. You get to try something new and maybe give us a recommendation (if you don't already have one for that neighborhood). And I loved the little history tidbits! I'm definitely here for that!
I loved it Jay, thanks a million for this creative idea to share the streets of Paris by Quarters. I’m printing my map out right now and follow along everyday. So excited to learn more each day.
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, the best one ever, slow, relaxing, details of Architecture, fashion, stores. great choice of topics, since we cannot do that ourselves - you are our eyes and legs. I am happy that you had a company - could be just a friend or not, but at least somebody to share with. I love to travel but not everybody in my family so sometime I venture alone, take pictures and talk about what I saw with them , but it is not the same as being with them even in the common situation. = Can't wait for more.
Great start to what looks to be a wonderful way to explore Paris, the 80 in 8. My wife and I have been to Paris twice. We stayed in the 1er arrondissement both times due to the location and convenience to the Louvre and Tuileries Garden. We used the metro to venture out from the center of Paris. Your series, 20 in 20 gave us some ideas for where to stay on our next visit. We really enjoy your vlogs.
I loved the 20 in 20, I think I'm really going to like this new series too!! I've watched the 20 in 20 a couple of times when I've been missing Paris. Can't wait for more!
This is fun! I'm excited. I got my map out and colored in Vendome. The detailed tour of streets is cool. I loved the peek at the Tour de France at the end!!! Thank you for that. See you tomorrow! 😊
Loved the 20 and 20, and I am loving this breakdown! Can't wait until we Americans can travel again and hopefully I'll be in Paris in August. Stay safe! And LOVE that mask!!
Perfect way to start the day. A relaxing jaunt through Paris. I love your idea and the pace. Especially enjoyable during our banishment from EU. Longing to return to Paris so in the meantime these vlogs will be balm to the soul. Oh and the map idea is awesome!
Pretty cool! That area has changed a bit since I lived there. I drink almond milk every day- I haven’t had regular milk in 11 years. Allergy. Trust me: a body can get used to anything and it’s delicious to me now! Wild & the Moon sounds like a cool place. ✌🏼
Hi Jay. That was an enjoyable first 80 in 8. Glad your friend got to do a bit of shopping. I would feel the same about the almond milk too 😱 You have to try and include at least one dog in each of your 80 in 8 vlogs lol 🐕😊
These videos are going to be brilliant Jay. Not being able to travel ATM these will really help to get a feel for the different parts of each arrondissmont and a realtime feel for the walking distance. Thank you so much, hopefully by the time you get to 80, I can go to Paris again.
Quite enjoyable video. Looking forward to the ongoing series. A thought ocurred to me regarding this type of videos you make and your recent video about your visa status and wish to become a French citizen. Have you ever tried to gage how many of your viewers, patrons have been encouraged to visit Paris or other parts of France? This info may help make your case. I can tell you your videos played a role in including Paris as a destination to my trip last year. Keep up the good work!
Your 20 n 20 helped me so much when I went to Paris in Aug 2019 so I'm excited for this new series. I went to 27 of your recommendations Zia and Trieze, berthillon was my favorites
Okay, tell the truth. The 80 in 8 is really just your way of finding more Space Invaders. :) Seriously, this is perfect. Like you, I've always wanted to know Paris in all the small neighborhoods. Thank you! Didn't know the word "sourdiere".....google says it means "mute". Interesting.
What fun! I've been thinking about exploring my area with more intention too. I'd love to see a screenshot of your actual footpath you took (because I'm visual). I know that the fitbit does a screen that would be what I'm thinking. Fun for you to have company too!
Great work-looking forward to digging deeper into the Paris map, as a fan of 20 in 20. Will have to become a Patreon again. And yes, oat or soy is better for lattés and mixes better with coffee. Lots of great vegan stuff in Paris, especially the 2nd, 3rd and 9th, but all over really. One of my favorites is Le Faitout in the 12th.
Hi Jay. I love this first episode! You have given me several “to-dos” in this one and many other ideas from your other various videos! Hopefully the border will open before Oct 20.....
L'Absinthe! The staff know me there because I went 4 times in three weeks because I actually like absinthe, which it seems most patrons don't actually try. I think I wore out my welcome though ha ha. They do have a great menu aside from the absinthe.
Great idea breaking down the areas. Will learn much more about Paris. Paris always beautiful as the women. Do the women in Paris actually eat any of the fabulous cuisine? Be well and safe Jay
Looking forward to the 80 in 8 ;-) As a 6th gen Texan I must point out that you missed the site of the Texas embassy in Paris at 1 Place Vendome. You know Texas was a republic for 9 years 1936-1845, right?
@@JaySwanson any ideas what area to stay.. etc near tourist places but not too far away ...near shops as we love to shop, maybe September plan 2 go 4 5 days , it is easier on Euro star... :) thank u
In London, the black cab taxi drivers 🚓 learn every single street in London before they get a license....it’s called “The Knowledge”. You will have La Connaissance de Paris after this great series! 😎🇫🇷
On the video, you mentioned a children focused video you made previously. Would you, please, tell me what is the title of the video? I've never seen anything about this subject before. Actually, I had never considered it as an option. Hahaha! Always thought of Paris as a grown-up place.
I like the idea of adding a friend to each quarter... definitely appreciated her popping in to shop at a place you wouldn't normally go into.
That was a lovely little stroll to kick off the 80 in 8!
In just a few minutes, I finally understand how Paris is laid out. Memorizing the whole thing is my long term goal =D I hope we can have fun doing it together!
I love learning history with you walking along the streets of Paris..
Hey Jay! Your parents must be so proud of you bringing Paris to the rest of the world! thank you !
So glad you finished up with the Tour de France!
That over-head map location intro was AWWWWWESOME
The Tour de France finale was >chef’s kiss< perfect - what a nice touch to launch 80 in 8!
Happy I could toss it in =D
Thank you for this! We spend a month in France a year and I am missing it terribly. I cannot wait to wander, sit, and soak up the city and country again.
Happy I can provide some Paris to soak in =D
Love the slow pace detailed stroll approach. Enjoy the process!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm having fun with it so far

Nice animations in the intro!
What a love letter to Paris. I am so exited to see it through you. Thank you. This is a tremendous gift ...
You're so welcome!🥂
I’m living vicariously through you! Thanks for these videos
A nice stroll around an area of Paris is such a good idea. And very relaxing to watch.
I like what your're doing now, this will be fun. I will look forward to each new neighborhood. Thanks Jay!
More to come!

I'm all in for this deep dive into Paris' quartiers!
It will be good to get out of your rut. Liked the Tour de France.

I spent a month in Montreal and the metro stop near my AirBNB was called Vendôme.
Nice - it's also a commune in France which is probably where the name comes from, but that slipped my mind
It’s wonderful wandering and discovering new places. Walking is magic. Thx for sharing your magic.
Next time, try oat milk. It's much creamier and foams better than almond. Loved the tour of the 1st!
This was a great start. I get to explore without being there. Love it thanks Jay 😀
Thank you!

Well done Jay. At last….long awaited in-depth look at Paris.
IKEA without having to take the train out to Paris-Grignon? What luxury!

Ahhh Place Vendome. I used to work at No 18 when it was a Bank way way back in the 80s Think it’s now Channel. Great vlog! Thanks Jay!

This might be the best time to walk around this neighborhood due to no tourists around at all! Quite enjoyable.
It really is!

And Jay again making Grandma happy with a very cute lady. BTW, I heard some familiar accent there. Is she from Spain?

I'm aiming high haha
I think i´m going to love these vlogs and why is the Saint Roch church pronounced with a k? I have been mystified for some time now.
Was Melia Vendome in this video? I was supposed to be there for a week in June. You know how that turned out!
Hopefully 2021 has an upward trend instead =)
Mr jay !!!!!!
Nice tour. Is the video a lot choppier than usual?

Hey Jay. No "Rue Saint Roche" bur we pronounce é Saint Rock". As a Parisian, I love your vids.
