Man i wish you guys would be more vocal about these “high-end” units lacking digital/optical toslink outputs…Cheap Chinese untis have this and lets be honest it’s the best way to transfer signal in a vehicle…

In a few more years those chinese units will have matured software/hardware which will put a lot of these domestic manuf. out of business.

Optical doesn’t play to 40k so it wouldn’t be hi-res certified

@@cesarcervantes5840Is high res and lossless audio the same? Will the lossless audio from the iPhones transmit wirelessly? I was always caught up on optical and was going to settle for the RSX. But if my assumptions were wrong I would love to have the ability to have CarPlay also.

The old GS9 did have optical but guess what. If you used it you missed out on the built in DAC’s that were in the unit. Which DSP’s are you using that have better DAC than the old GS9?

There’s only one thing about all these aftermarket screens , there way outdated compared to the new factory floating screens , not in software but in aesthetics there just to dam thick they look like the first flatscreen TVs that came out 😂 when now most tablets and even TVs are razor thin 😅

Agreed. That was one of my first (constructive) criticisms from a installation versatility aspect for installers and enthusiasts when this unit was first announced. And not only the Thickness of the Display, but more importantly the HUGE BLANK BEZELS around the perimeter of the actual display, unlike even the most budget Android tablets, let alone an iPad. However, I do appreciate the Single-DIN Chassis, which does give it more installation options.
But the unnecessary Extra Size of the Display Housing is IMPORTANT because it really does limit the number of different vehicles that it can be installed in due to the larger display housing covering or obstructing HVAC Vents and/or Dash-mounted OEM buttons & controls, or getting in the way of MT or AT gear shift controls on some vehicles.
Just as ONE example, many vehicles place the HAZARD LIGHTS button/switch somewhere prominent in the Center of the Dash's Vertical Center Stack or Center Console where this display is likely to obscure it...even with the display's up/down/left/right adjustments. Or, at the very least the Position of the Display will be compromised so that it doesn't block other necessary OEM controls/buttons.
IF the Blank Bezels around these displays were just 1/8"-1/4" like most modern tablets, they would have a MUCH smaller overall footprint while still offering the same actual display size, and would obstruct much less of the dash and potentially the vehicle's AT or MT gear shift knob in some vehicles.
^ THIS would allow the SONY Mobile ES XAV-9500ES to be SOLD & INSTALLED into many more vehicles. Versatility = MORE SALES and more happy customers.
One of my other complaints with ALL of these LARGE Floating-Panel Displays is the Screen Resolution.
FYI, I have installed one of these Sony 9500ES units as well as other large Floating-Panel head units with their so-called "HD" displays (720P). Guys, let's remember that this is a 10.1" display, AND it is 2024! Even $150 Android Smartphones with ~6.5" displays and $250 budget laptops which have way more functions and electronics are At Least 1080P FULL HD, not 720P!
I was happy when Sony FINALLY announced their smaller Mobile ES Double-DIN version of this head unit (XAV-9000ES) so you could now install a high-quality SONY Mobile ES head unit with their superior audio technology where their larger floating-screen wouldn't fit. However, pretty much EVERYONE these days wants a LARGER Display, not the old DD standard. 🤷‍♂
FYI, I've been a Sony Mobile ES enthusiast from the very beginning, and one of my "Old School" installs still uses the classic Mobil ES CDX-C90 single-DIN head unit with their 8-channel ES XDP-4000X DSP (and still hold its own in regards to SQ).
      /END OF RANT 😛

I have this unit for about a year now. It is very good but the only thing I will it could do is mirror my phone so that when I am parked I can watch UA-cam, Netflix and stuff like that...

Bought Rsx-gs9 instead of this with your suggestions.

Oooofff! I would have definitely purchased this newer XAV-9500ES or its little brother, the XAV-9000ES. The newer DACs and overall internal electronics, SQ, and ESPECIALLY the GUI/Usability/Features are superior to the older RSX-GS9 in every way...IMPO.
I'm not saying that the RSX-GS9 sounds "bad", but even in Audio Science Review's extensive test measurements of this unit revealed that the GS9 was a very poor implementation of this ESS Sabre DAC, and wasn't even close in performance to other products using these same DAC chips. :/
And not that they would say anything different, but even behind closed doors the Sony reps and Mobile ES product manager Chris Bulla say that these newer XAV ES units are better in regards to pure SQ vs the GS9.
FYI, I've been a diehard SONY Mobile ES enthusiast from the very beginning, and I ordered and installed the RSX-GS9 from Crutchfield as soon as it was available. It was installed in one of my vehicles for less than a month before I returned it to Crutchfield!
I couldn't live with the piss poor implementation of its UI with Sony's horrible "Song Pal" app on a day-to-day basis. And to my ears, the OLD Sony ES CDX-C90 that the GS9 replaced sounded just as good when combined with the old XDP-4000X 8-channel DSP with Burr-Brown DACs. 🤷‍♂
I'm a drummer/percussionist/saxophonist and have had my own home recording studio for over 13 years, so I compare products like these by playing back my own Lifelike recordings of my instruments that I am intimately familiar with. The RSX-GS9 sounds "really good", but from my recollection of it, these newer XAV-9500/9000ES head units are definitely another step up in SQ...and MUCH more easy to live with on a day-to-day basis in regards to features and functionality!
      ^It's just my personal opinion.

Can someone answer this for me?
How do you get the hi res audio from this unit to your hi res dsp?
    Through the rca's?
    Wirelessly?

    • @bbfoto7248

Unfortunately, very few manufacturers supply a FULL PRINTED OWNER'S MANUAL with their product.
I really don't blame them when 90% of users never even bother to RTFM anyway, and printing thousands of paper booklets that most people toss in the trash is a waste of money and natural resources.
I would say that just about everyone who is going to purchase this type of head unit/product has Internet and a smartphone/tablet/laptop PC/desktop PC, and can print out any page they want from the PDF file if needed.
You basically only use or read the manual once if at all when doing the installation, and then it gets tossed, so?
