Probably should explain the rinsing the fish part. If I dip my net in the water to get the fish and release it into the new tank, isn’t that contaminating the new tank? You said not 1 drop!

I decided to do the Hybrid TTM with hydrogen peroxide for my new tank. First fish just made it through and look healthy! The initial results for hydrogen peroxide look very promising and is much easier on the fish. Though i'll probably have my expensive fish done by you guys at marine collectors just to take the stress off of me!

Crypotocarion. Hate it. Still have a little bit of fin blushing on a Japonicus. Big UV and its not getting worse. My experience suggests that if there is no death, the fish will beat the current strain after several cycles. No fish loss nor transfering of spots to other tangs is occuring since the UV so the improvment is magnificent. Before the UV, I lost several tangs and even a Gramma Loreto succumbed to ick. The tank bred Flavescens tang never got a spot at all during the worst of it. Its a strong fish. It all started when I place a Naso Elegans that looked fine but had been medicated half to death. Its liver was half gone.

It's good practice to transfer as little water as possible, but saying not one drop might be a little bit too paranoid (coming from someone who's pretty paranoid when it comes to fish parasites). The goal of the transfers is taking the fish away from tomonts (attached to suitable substrate) that can start releasing theronts (free swimming, looking for fish to infect) after 72 hours. But the tomonts are not in the water. Rinsing the fish might get rid of any protomonts that happen to be there but even then, protomonts can drop of the fish right after transfer so you're not really winning anything here. Unless you suspect other pathogens than ich in that one drop of water... in that case I'd be interested which. I usually do HTTM with 2 prazi rounds (on alternate transfers) and metro if needed.

Isnt it unecessary to rinse the fish? I mean even if you transfer a parasite that has just dropped off the fish it will not multiply before you move it again. The parasites you want to avoid transfering are not in the water, they are in the substrate.

TTM is the best thing ever. Anyone know who created it? I can't thank them enough.

Curious how long can a marine fish live in fresh water.

Tip: use 5 gal buckets pre mixed ready to go. You can have a bunch of these done on the first day so all you need to do is sanitise the heater and use fresh air stones and hosing. Beats cleaning a tank constantly.

I've been advocating this method for years in the hope others would follow. I use Flukesolve along with TTM to cover flukes and worms with ALL new fish. Ammonia isn't a problem if your water volume is enough or aren't overloading 20 litres with 10 fish. This is by far the easiest and safest way to receive and acclimate new fish and by acclimate, I mean giving them 2 weeks of peace and quiet, rest and recuperation, no competition for food or being harassed by new tank mates.

Totally agree. This method has so much more potential using meds as well as the TTM or Hybrid TTM.

That's a bit overboard cleaning the tanks between transfers. I just wash it and equipment in scalding hot water and let it all dry.

Great video, I do the hybrid ttm 36 36 36 36 72 72, the timeline is brutal haha. I also dose prazi pro twice. Drying everything in the sun between transfers is great if you live somewhere hot.

Thanks for the process description and logic. Even if one does not have the space, equipment, … etc. The logic involved makes us better caretakers.
    Thanks again,

Space required = an extra large shoe box and equipment = the cost of ½ a Tomini Tang. Effort required is minimal too considering the benefits 👍

@@Leigh33 For most cases true; however, if one is at a college that only allows one tank of 10 gallons or less in one’s phone booth sized room, this method is hard to pull off.
However, it is great to know for the future. 😀

@@jamesgreen9372ah yes, I hadnt taken things like this into account. Perhaps get the fish ready during the holiday and take healthy fish back to college. 👌

I've done the HYBRID TTM twice recently. Two of everything is really the best way to go. Once I transfer over to new tank the first set is thoroughly washed and the put in the backyard to dry out in vegas heat.

Hey, I plan on setting up a 150 gallon reef tank and I want to keep maybe 3-4 tangs and the bioload will be a little on the heavy side. I want a good skimmer that is not overly expensive and works well. What skimmer would you suggest I get? I want to spend 200-300 dollars and a max of 350 or 400 dollars if it is really that good and eliminate the use of a refugium. Please let me know and thank you in advance!

I would take a look at the AquaMaxx ConeS Q-2. While it's not a skimmer with a DC controllable pump, it's the perfect size for your aquarium with heavy stocking in mind. These Aquamaxx skimmers are beasts at what they do 💪

I just googled. Found a calculator. If your bleach is 8.25% sodium hypochlorite then it’s 48ml for 10gal

What do u say is a good ratio of fish making it out of qt

As long as you’re buying healthy looking fish and properly quarantining, I would think near 100%. I’m 6 for 6 myself, only did 1 fish at a time, fish were small and QT was a 10 gallon, tank media was cycled. Did weekly water changes and treated with copper for a month.

I have used this method on over 30 fish with an almost 100% survival rate. Lost 1 tiger goby that jumped and a purple firefish i believe was bullied by an angel i was transferring at the same time, so technically neither loss was down to the actual ttm process 👍👍

I lost 1 fish out of 16 and it was the smallest of 8 lyretail anthias. It probably had nothing to do with HTTM, he just stopped eating.
