A quick morning beach metal detecting session on Scarbough Beach, Perth Western Australia
In this video, I take in a quick early morning beach detecting session at Scarbough Beach in Perth, Western Australia. I took my trusty Minelab Equinox 800 metal detector down to Scarborough beach at about 5am and the coast is absolutely amazing.
Unfortunately not a lot of finds today.
    I found a $2 coin, a 5c coin, 14 bottole tops, a pull tab and a pair of fairly fancy Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Always try to leave the beach a better place than when you first get there. Everybody of junk removed counts!

Thanks buddy, I reckon the CIty Councils should pay us metal detectorists for cleaning their beaches. I've found rusty needles and all sorts of nasty rubbish in beach sand. Not the sort of stuff you want to pick up in your feet!

Not sure if you realise it, but all those Perth based surf club beaches, the surf clubs all have tractors with special flotation beach tyres, and they have a “beach cleaning sifter” that they tow behind, and it digs through and sifts the sand each afternoon to remove all the rubbish left behind by beach goers (& others).
It is or was becoming an increasingly big problem that drug addicts would go down to the beaches at night to inject their heroin, in the dark away from the prying / watchful eyes of the local constabulary & of course they would discard their hypodermic syringes in the sand, on the beach, so as not to be caught with the evidence on their way back up into Scarborough streets in case stopped by the WAPOL beat cops.
Kiddies and others were stepping on syringe hypodermic needles in the sand and getting jab injuries back when hepatitis and aids were diseases easily transmissible by sharing hypodermic needles, so anyone who stood on one at the beach, basically had to go through 12 months of regular blood testing etc.
As a result, everyone was too scared to go to the local Perth beaches.
So all the councils got grants to provide the surf clubs with 4wd tractors with beach tyres and these sand sifting devices on the back, and they clean / soft the sand daily.
So the chances of finding anything of value, are slim to non unless it’s buried really deep - beyond the range of the sand sifting tractors.
Thought this might be handy to know for other visiting prospectors looking to find a beach to detect.
Places further north of Perth city where they don’t have dedicated surf club patrolled beaches, is where there are no daily beach tractor / sand sifting machines and thus don’t get daily cleaned are where your more likely to find the odd lost treasure. 👍🇦🇺

They sure are. But it's local to me and I still occasionally find things of value!

@@Part_Time_Prospector Can’t argue with that, healthy outdoors exercise at the very least.
Just thought it might be worth knowing for those who visit WA and are looking for somewhere to detect a beach is all.

I hope you hand anything of true value or engraved rings to the police. Im not saying what you do is wrong, but every time I see a metal detectorist on a beach, I feel a small amount of disdain for them, like a hock shop making gain from someone elses loss, or a vulture. The shire should bring out a law like waste disposal site's where it is illegal to scab, and have a lost and found depo. I may cop backlash for this comment, but I cant help the way my gut feels. Sorry.

I love it when I find random peace’s of some ones life down the river or beach then I can think about the story behind the item I get that some people don’t like it but I think it helps clean the water ways as well as giving the items found a chance at a new life.
