I was surprised by how different this song is from her usual style. Not only is the _message_ contrasting, but so is the _style_ of the song. It’s more of a chill beat kind of flow. Starts out slow, builds to a happy, fast-paced groove. As for the message: it represents a new light, a new hope... to just _love yourself_ which really makes this song stand out. I like it!

listening to this song i am realizing that this is kind of her message in a way. That what she means by, "I'm in love with my future" is that she wants to see what her future holds and she won't let depression win. The song seems to be about how Billie is leaving a previous version of herself behind, and growing.
Through the song she seems to be singing to her past self, but also to perhaps a past love. Telling them both that she's on a new journey to be a new version of herself.
It feels like Billie is moving on from anything in her past self that was holding her back (depression, anxiety, etc). She knows there will always be a part of that with her, but she's willing to get over it to keep moving.
The song feels very powerful, and I'm happy for Billie. I can already tell how this song is going to help me in my life.

as someone who's been battling depression since they can remember, this song speaks deeper to me. in my mind, billie isn't speaking about a person, it's the depression that becomes so strong that it almost becomes another being. getting back in your car and driving that depression home will lead to it inviting you back in but you know not to do so because you finally love yourself after years of battle. you know what it will be like because of the comfort that is there and was there for years but you see a beautiful future for yourself for the first time and you actually want it, you REALLY want it. depression can be disguised as a pretty person that tries to reel you back in but you know not to get into that car and drive em home, you send them on there way in a fucking uber and say good riddins!!!!! - Ces

In the beginning she seems to be saying how she’s “changed her plans” and is now excited for her future after having gone through dark times (which she has talked about before) and now she’s starting to get to know herself again and she’s excited to see where that leads and be here for a long time. A part of growing and getting to the future, though, seems to be that, even though she wants to be there for us and continue to be a positive impact, aka “drive us home” she needs to leave the spotlight for a couple years bc she can’t grown with “anybody here” and people making her feel tied down-but when she’s ready, she’ll see us in a couple years. My interpretation of the song: at the start she is in a toxic relationship. all he does is seek pleasure in her and expect her to say what he wants to hear, hence the mirror metaphor (I'm just a mirror, you check your complexion) and how she isnt actually emotionally with him so when he looks at the mirror hes “all alone” (and so is she). the relationship represents one that only seeks pleasure and romantic feelings in the now but doesnt actually give her any happiness in the long run. so she realises this and decides to choose her future and an emotional relationship with herself instead of a relationship which lacks actual connection with someone else and doesnt let her focus on herself. in the end she chooses her future because she is in love with her future instead of him.
