Love your videos. I was really looking foward a video of how you use these AI tools because It's easy to get lost with so many of them out there. Thank you.
Writing a well-researched paper requires a diligent approach towards reading and analyzing source material. While AI tools can assist in the process, it is important to avoid complacency and strive for excellence. As PhD students, it is crucial to acknowledge and respect the challenges that our parents faced during their own academic journeys. By adopting a proactive and dedicated attitude, we can overcome obstacles and achieve success in our own studies.
100% agree, because I respect the challenges my ancestors faced during their academic journeys (doubt there were many) I refrain from using the internet or even calculators altogether and rely on an Abacus. That‘s where I draw the line.
@@yoloswaginator Back in the day(probably until late 1980s), was quite normal in a scientific thesis to hand write equations with a biro. Have a look at Stephen Hawking's thesis available from Cambridge University archive, complete with handwritten equations and typos.
Hi Andy! I would love to see a video about the limitations and ethics of using AI for academic work. Are there ethical gray zones to be avoided? I've seen a lot of content on ethical issues of AI use in classroom settings but not much for research settings yet.
Thank you for this! I am looking for resources that can handle synthesizing information from sources the Japanese language. I know chat gpt can summarize, and same with Norton, but if you happen to know anything else, I am all ears!
Hey Andy love all your stuff even your beard content. Can we get some content for undergrads looking to do research at school hiw to get in REUs and applying to Ph.D and masters programs
I have recently become familiar with artificial intelligence, and I have greatly benefited from your videos. Thank you for your excellent videos. I'm just a bit confused and need to know what the best tool is for academic writing? (I need to be able to justify my research hypothesis. I have explained that, for example, I expect variable A to moderate the relationship between variables B and C.)
Hey Andy, would you do a video on academic conferences for undergraduates/ recent graduate students? Also if you haven't already what would be your advise for somebody recently deciding on getting a ph.d. ? I work in research as a senior in undergrad, thanks!
Hi Andy , thanks for all your great work as always. Do you have any suggestions for AI voice to text ? This would be for recording lectures to then process into notes. Most AI voice to text monthly plans only consist of 300mins per month . That's outrageous as full time study clips that amount each week with lectures. Any suggestions? Thank very much
@@DrAndyStapleton thank you Dr Andy for your reply. I have whisper ai installed but found it slow to transcribe on medium setting. It's too slow . Microsoft Word transcribe function is my 'go to' but has the issue of 300 mins of words per month. Thanks again, will continue to enjoy watching your great videos 👍

Academic papers need to adapt to new standards of consuming content. It is a waste of time for both the researchers and the reviewers. There is no major benefit for the field of study much less to society as a whole. Society is the actual funding entity for most research (tax payers) so we should be demanding actual solutions from academics.
I have started to create my own database on Notion of AI tools for research and productivity suggested by both Andy and other LinkedIn sources...and now I have FOMO and can't NOT watch his videos on ai x research 😅
Check out theresanaiforthat, it‘s a large database of available resources. But if you follow „AI news“ you‘ll quickly notice there wasn‘t actually a a really noteworthy breakthrough since chatgpt4, even though the video titles always suggest otherwise.
Horrible advice! Reading abstracts is already boring in general, mostly since most authors rewrite the same boilerplate banalities about a subject again and again, citing the same references etc. And now, this tendency will accelerate with AI. Then, we definitely need AI to detect that the abstract has not been generated by AI 🙃
This is where the buck stops for me. If you are using AI tools to do the job for you... where the heck is the 'journey' of learning how to write an academic article or thesis? While I do appreciate some of your videos, to me using AI to write articles is a very clear demonstration of academic misconduct and sheer cheating. Where is the challenge? Where is the critical analysis that humans should have if they are to enter academia? How can you demonstrate any cognitive competency if you are not making the effort, you are not developing it? If you don't like academia, you certainly have other options, but I do not think it is helpful to air these cutting-corner videos. I am catching students using this AI already and they are far from having learned anything in the process other than asking a robot to write their assessment.
This might work for you, but don‘t assume that this is what „one“ always does. For me, first setting up some rough structure helps me iterate fast, and a tentative abstract helps narrow down the potential paths the paper can take during the process.
@@yoloswaginator You are mistaken structure for an abstract. The structure of a scientific paper was stable for at least 60 years: introduction, methods, results, discussion; with additional bits and bobs when needed. If you write an abstract before a paper it is like having an advert before you got a product. That's how things are done in marketing, not in academia - do you want to consider a career change?
