In late 1988 when my Dad was dying, this hymn was placed in my mother's hands by a Salvation Army Officer. She placed something in my hand also, but I could not bring myself to even look at it. Dad had been brought up as Church of England, but in spite of a simple faith, he really did not know he could be saved and so was fighting death in fear. I've always loved music, especially hymns, and when Mum said, "Oh Harold, it's your favourite hymn", I got up, took it from her hands and stood by his side and then sang it to him. He began to calm down and look at the ceiling. I had previously prayed, "LORD give him a vision of yourself?" I had been a nurse and watched many people die. Those who were Christians and saw the LORD did what Dad did: He raised his hands towards heaven. I then quoted Psalm 23 not knowing it too was one of his favourites. His hands and arms were stretched upward and his eyes wandered over the ceiling as if seeing not only the LORD Jesus, but innumerable angels. Mum was stressed about this and tried to get him to lower them, but I asked her not to as I believed he saw the LORD. In fact, I felt like we were intruders into a very special heavenly event. To this day I believe my darling father was fully redeemed that day and passed away later in the night. I love this hymn and the joy the LORD gave me to bless my Dad before his passing into glory. May God bless your ministry as you have certainly blessed me and probably many many others. I can no longer sing as I have a lung condition. However, Christian music and especially hymns lifts my heart and soul in worship. Thank you Father for Luke and the ministry you have given him, In Jesus Christ's name. Amen
Excellent. I live half an hour's drive from Olney and have visited the museum and church there. From July 2022 to July 2023, the town commemorated the 250th anniversary of Amazing Grace.
What a powerful story, thanks for sharing. We always sing this song almost every Sabbath,God's grace is our theme and shall be our theme for eternity. 🙏🏿
Amazing Grace, what a powerful song that pulls at the heart strings in all that hear its message, thank you again for your ministry that comes from the heart. m.a. in Az
This is my favourite hymn, followed by Nearer My God to Thee. My mom can’t listen to it because it was played at my grandfather’s and uncle’s funeral. So I get it. But I absolutely love it, and the story behind it.
I love it. Speaks of how great God's love is. Shows that no matter how much we have sinned, Jesus saves us, if we return to God in humble faith and confess our sins. God is faithful and he keeps his promises
Oooh. That was just so special. Thank you. This is just such a very special song. Inspiring, uplifting, encouraging and challenging with a wonderful Melody.
*I haven't nearly died at sea, but I nearly died 3 times. My youngest daughter was stillborn 16 years ago and I almost died during the delivery process. Then 12 years ago, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and given one year to live (according to medical professionals I would make to 34 at the most. I am 45 years young). Lastly, almost 5 years ago, I was in a horrific car accident (which coincidentally I cannot remember) where a drunk driver T-boned the car I was in. Because of the accident, I was unconscious for several hours, sustained a rear cranial fracture, had my left eye swollen shut, my mouth nearly shut to the point where I couldn't open it, and a huge swelling of my right leg. Not only did God save me from death, but He also healed me totally. By God's Grace, I have seen five (5) of my seven (7) kids reach adulthood with my last 2 being teenagers. God is so Awesome!!!!!
Lovely! I love the missing verses and it is a pity that they have been left out. Thank you so much for sharing Luke. God bless this beautiful ministry 🙏 💕
❤I love this hymn. I love nature and I love the displays of lightning and thunder in a storm. This song was made very popular in the 1953 ? BILLY GRAHAM crusade in Sydney Australia. I think the singer at the crusade was George Beverly Shay?? It is such a powerful hymn. Sang very often in our Baptist Churches. Pity another hymn that lies buried.
Ive slways liked amazing grace but now have heard the Chris Tomlin version amazing grace my chains are gone, is now tge defacto one we sing at church. Ive heard it said that Newton was such a horrible snd vulgar person that on that fateful dsy the crew had arrested him and put him in chains in the hull of the ship as he had done to the slaves and that is where he was when the storm hit. None the less it remains an amazing testimony.

When I was a teenager my pastor referred to Amazing Grace as the granddaddy of all hymns. Thanks be to God for his grace revealed in Jesus Christ

Thank you so much!
I especially like the line I was blind but now I see! Actually I like all the lines! It really resonates with me personally!
Love it. ❤
I've heard the unpopular verses in the newer version (My chains are gone). Yes, sing all verses. Love 'em.
