to be fair, he deliberately added those welding points, they were obviously added ontop of the "clean" mesh. Which means he went 200% for realism. Not to say that those extra 100% were necessary, but still, there was extra effort put into this.
Yes of course! But even the underlying clean geometry was quite heavy, check the newest video if you'd like, I believe without the welds the object was still at something like 80k tris
