..and to repair properly by drilling out the old hole and placing new plug. And when cutting, do not pull knife toward your exposed arm. Also, using spray shellac on darker wood prior to painting will prevent bleed through. I used that same fabric to make pillows for our deck. Very cheery. Otherwise, great video.
why could anyone thumbs down this video... If you are into up-cycling old furniture and DIY this video is really informative. Thanks a lot. Really enjoyed it.
Thank you! :) I have come to realize there are just unhappy people in the world who like to complain, so a thumbs down lets them take it out on content creators that are trying to help make the world a better place. LOL! :) So glad you found the video helpful!! I appreciate it!
I loved this video. Small, starter project. You did such a good job of thoroughly explaining every step, such as notching the center of the fabric, or to pull fabric toward the corners, or even showing that the tacks didn't fit back into in the new corners so you used a longer screw. All those tips help beginners, or even not total beginners to succeed. Thank you so much.
if you're planning on it lasting and supporting weight at all I would drill in a few supporting screws from inside the compartment and dremel out the messed up dowel and replace it
Thanks so much for this! The high grit sandpaper idea is something I hadn’t considered before! Thanks so much! I have a upholstered chair I’m going to work on this summer and am grateful for your videos!!!
Very nice job! So neatly done. Thank you for sharing all the tips to upholstery. I will have to do that same thing to my dining room chairs pretty soon. I am still learning.💕
Awww, that is so sweet, thank you! By the way I post so infrequently anymore (due to slowness on my part!), it will take me 20 years to get to a million! LOL One day at a time, right?? LOL
I'm watching so I can redo my dining room chair as the fabric has a hole. Is there a reason we wouldn't staple all of the materials at once? Great video!
Your thorough explanation helps me feel more confident in my new project at home. If I may, do you have any suggestions on how to choose fabric to upholster dining room chairs? This is where I get lost. Thank you you for your suggestion. -Evelyn
I've been binge watching your videos. Such good work and simply enjoyable. This is where I say to self " enough ! I sew all my projects and have only done pillows and cushions for customers over the years, now why have I loved watching you tonight you ask. Well because 6 years ago I bought a lovely tall end table that is made my Simply Shabby Chic at a resale shop to hold my landline phone, a book, tissues a drafting tablet etc, oh and of course my coffee cup next to my favorite chair. My issue is that I have to use a cover ( a mug rug) over a very distastefully done decoupage rose that is trimmed with possibly Tulip Paint. How can I gently remove this unsightly mark on a very darling table? or can I with no experience in wood also I have no specialty tools. TIA for anything you can tell me. Oh I am not adverse to sending this to a professional if that is what I need to do. I can E-mail the pic if you like.
Very cute. If you want a thicker cushion, would you have another layer (or two or three layers) cut to the size of the wood and tightly placed under the larger piece you are stapling to the wood?
Yep, that's what I would do. There is foam you can get from the craft store that can be cut to size, and would sit on top, with spray adhesive to keep it in place, then fabric pulled tight over it.
Hi Serena, I love your videos, I aspire to be so handy. On that note may you offer any information on how to refurbish a old trunk? It needs a lot of work from cleaning to painting/staining the entire exterior and rebuilding the inside. I would like to put it on a rolling base as well and use it as a coffee table. Any info or references you can offer would be great. I can pay someone a few hundred dollars to do this but it’s something I would really like to do myself.
Such a soothing & relaxing video. Easy & common sense instructions. And then my faith in humanity is questioned... Such a cool & colorful pattern to make you feel good ( pretty pink pastel on da fingernails) & 21 ppl. still felt the need to dislike this video!! Sup wit dat?? Hoping all is well Serena, Dirty Jersey out!!
Great video! Love the little foot stool, I’m sure your mom’s gonna love it too 👍🏼. Now I have a question and I hope you can help, I’ve been looking at all your videos that you’ve been working with wood but none of them have given me an answer to the question I’m about to ask. I bought this new dresser at a furniture store now the inside of the drawers have splinters yes splinters I know it’s weird 🤷🏼, anyways when I talk to the furniture store they said that’s the way the manufacture made it. So I try sanding it but the splinters don’t seem to go away. So what do you recommend I do? I don’t want to mess it up 🤦🏼 being that it’s a brand new dresser. So being that you know about furniture I thought I would contact you so you can give me some kind of advice. Hope to hear from you soon 🙏🏼. Thank you in advance 👍🏼
I have a similar project! Great video. I have a question... Any advice for using vintage material? Not necessarily reusing the same material, but wanting to use an older fabric on my project. Thoughts? Tips? Thanks in advance. :)
Sure! I think the main thing is to make sure that the fabric is suitable for what you're using it for, for example, not using silk to reupholster a stool or something silly like that. :) Other than that, I can't think of anything specific related to using vintage fabrics. Oh--and making sure the vintage fabric isn't so old or fragile (due to age) that it easily tears or frays!

You did a beautiful job on the foot stool. It made me think of the upholstery I did on my Grandmother's stool.
Reminder for DIYers not to rush their project. Let the glue dry overnight. Let the paint completely dry. Have patience for the nicest reward. 😀
Yesssss! Facts!
Yes 😂

I’m here :))
Hey you!! I see you....
if you're planning on it lasting and supporting weight at all I would drill in a few supporting screws from inside the compartment and dremel out the messed up dowel and replace it
Good points. This will likely just be used as a foot stool without much added need for strength.
it turns out gorgeous. I forgot to add that.
I love how you show pictures of all the tools you use. That is sooo helpful. You are a good teacher
Very well done. Enthusiastic and informative. Thanks a lot.
Excellent Excellent Excellent!!!👍🏿
I could have used this video a few months ago but it looks like I did everything right! Great video!
Yay! Glad to hear that! It's really not too hard but some people just need to get over the fear of messing up. :)
great lesson on corners! always tricky ...
👍🤩😍Very nice. I would have added more padding / foam cushion or something to make it softer to sit on or place feet on. Thanks for sharing. 💝
I LOVE the Sunflower 🌻 fabric! I remember when it was everywhere when I was little, and I LOVED it😁! I even had the perfume
Sunflower perfume? 💛🌻

Thanks, Lisa!! I love it and I think my mom is going to love it, too!
Great video. You can also use fabric glue to hold down the white fabric over the inside of the stool to hold the fabric in place as you tack it down
Absolutely beautiful!
This is EXACTLY what I did for my first upholstery project! Turned out so well! Love your channel 🥰
You made it into a cutie. Love it. Thanks for the upholstery tips.

Definitely not for resale but okay for the basic person who wants to add personality to owning it 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Not for resale, indeed! It went to my mom, she loves it in her bedroom! :)

Glucose?
@@ThriftDiving I love what you do

I usually paint my Furniture the same way! Flipped upside down.
I thought you had 2 strip that finish 1st b4 painting
What kind of wax is this ?
What is the liner for?
It adds extra layers for added softness! It also helps to keep the batting in place instead of it running against the outside fabric.
Why did you use chalk paint?

After your last podcast, I would replace all fabrics and fibers, because you never know WHAT you might be bringing into your home!
agreed.
Im very glad to spend time & $ to get fresh padding, foam & fabrics etc.
Facts!! I would only reuse the inserts if it came from my own home, really. You are right about the podcast!!
My,
Phonetic pronunciation of wax company: Feh-dess.
Ugly fabric needs more padding
Don Pertuit : UGLY COMMENT ! Didn't anyone ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say ... say NOTHING at all ?
