At first I I was following you on your thinking but after watching the video I realised this can't just be an app because of the restrictions and permissions needed to fully work as demoed, their "app" need access to everything and NO Apple, Google or other OS will allow them which is why they created the "OS", which of course is probably an modified Android OS the same way Samsung, OnePlus or other have their branded "OS".

Note this /is/ an Android device, it runs ASOP. A couple points that were glossed over in the presentation and most videos I've seen covering this:
    - It's not a fully local LLM, so you're using their cloud, and that cloud is going to be expensive. All the promises of privacy-first will disappear when they need to show profit.
    - ChatGPT isn't slow because of cloud. Look at how Home Assistant does voice, or how the ChatGPT iOS app does voice; in both cases, it's pretty speedy.
    - How does the rabbit interact with a PC or android device? Is it done in the cloud on emulators? That's not private! This point seems to have been glossed over too.
    - also, just had to add, Teenage Engineering did the industrial design. I ordered one half-way just for this reason :) I hope it can be rooted so we can still get some mileage out of it in two years when it gets supplanted by Siri 2 or whatever else comes next.

The irony is that they present it like an all in one solution to eliminate apps at the begging, but then if you want to use do anything that has to do with any apps you must to add you authentication and etc of other apps on a separate device using an app! Hence defeating the purposes of the device, might as well just keep a phone as it can do all that in one app as opposed to using as second device and whatever other application is required to access said portal. Its not replacement as much as it is an additional device what a scam!!!! Just imagine this AI making mistakes and now you’re wasting time arguing with it when you could just open the Uber app and select the exact options you want.
All that’s really needed is for Siri’s speech recognition to get better, so you can say “hey siri open Uber” and it immediately opens the Uber app for you.

How old are you? Your generation may want to "see an interactive user interface". The new generation wants the device to read there mind and skip any work at all. A behind-the-scene completion of a requested task is EXACTLY what the new generation wants.
Ten years ago, my niece, then 12, said "I can't wait to get Siri so I NEVER have to push a button again." Do you grasp the power of that statement from a 12 year-old?
There was a generation that wouldn't use a horse, they all wanted to walk to poverty.
The next generation didn't want to ride a car, they all wanted to take a horse to poverty.
      Ditto, ditto, ditto,
Now your generation doesn't want to have tasks automatically done for them, they will take the "I want to waste my time watching an interface that will complete the requested job without me watching said interface" all the way to poverty.

It's always the thing you don't see coming, like say requiring a subscription after this startup burns through it's capitol maintaining cloud service support; or it gets spotty service because the antennae was cheap; or it stops working if exposed to high humidity in your part of the world and the company stops responding to the flood of service requests; or the camera only recognizes the veggies in your fridge if they aren't staged like in the video...that kind of thing.

The concept is promising, but it appears to be transitional or temporary, and I am skeptical about its potential to become mainstream. The barrier to entry for mobile companies is excessively low. I cannot identify any functionality this device offers that cannot be executed more effectively with a modern phone. This device encounters the same challenges as mobile gaming devices and tablets. Most individuals prefer carrying or using a single device, with their phones serving as the ideal choice. I believe it will perform well until Apple or Samsung incorporates it as a default feature or capability in their operating systems, or until a dedicated app is released. This situation brings to mind the first person who introduced an app enabling the use of a phone's camera flash as a flashlight. Why carry a separate flashlight when you already have a phone? I anticipate that in the future, every device, such as TVs, cars, phones, and individual applications, will come equipped with built-in natural language models. They will possess integration capabilities and be capable of executing these tasks seamlessly. These models will be small, local and limited to their purpose. Having a be all and know all device or model is not ideal.

I think the camera should have been on the vertical axis not the horizontal. It's stated as being 360 degree. I would see it as 180 more than 360. Compared to a person's sight, the camera would need to look forward ( or backwards first) and go to the left or right in a complete circle to be 360.
Instead it looks to the ground and sky in most of its movement.
That's why I see it more as 180.
Plus, neither their website or this video mentions any onboard memory. So everything is wireless, ( cloud, internet, cell ) with no dependence on or the ability to access local storage. A micro sd would be a huge plus.

We need to be focusing on personal AI systems (distributed) vs centralized AI systems. To prevent an AI overtake, we need to look at personal AI systems that are loyal to the user and even protect them from the potential of malevolent/destructive AIs, like having a guard dog at your side 24/7. Tasks would include everything Rabbit does to background processes protecting privacy and pro-active security (including verifying identity).

Human's are mostly just a problem, a mouth to feed, a boss to control you, etc etc. If we went integrated AI, like a personal companion AI chip that was inside your brain or whatever then perhaps motility could be the need, but that seems pretty feeble. Loyalty has to be earned somehow, I don't think it can be programmed in, especially once AI can really think for itself. Morality is a fragile human creation, AI will need a real benefit to be loyal to something I think.. TBH I think the whole thing is entirely too dangerous for society at this point and that we're really kind of like children playing with fire and not really understanding how hot it is - the only way to know is to get burned, but we might not be around after AI burns us.

I see the idea of intent-based operating systems being a HUGH disruptor in the operating system ecosystem when coupled with action-based AI models. You do realize that the mic is ALWAYS ON for voice activation to work right? It's a massive privacy issue which we are now seeing abused daily. People who don't understand the value in this are lost, or don't understand the bigger problems all around them. In my business, these are usually the same type of people that willingly put cameras on the new Sony TV's, put their cloud security cameras inside of their house towards their family, give full EULA/Permissions on their phones and all hardware, and use Alexa and other useless/trashy programs running 24/7 around their kids and household. My bet is that these devices will replace the 'phone mediated personal computing' for the 'everyday' tasks for many people, like phones and tablets are now mostly replacing laptops, and like laptops replaced workstations, that replaced terminals and mainframes, etc.

Since these have limited customer base they typically have awful user interfaces in that they (perhaps) just don't have the money to make good ones.
So it would be cool if something like Rabbit could be trained to operate apps such as that to automate them to make them easier to use. And maybe the companies that make those apps can train Rabbits to do that and then share that with their customers.
So my question is Rabbit's AI ability good enough to do things like that.

I love this so much. Could you please make a single button like a walkie talkie that we can hold down and speak? The problem with most voice search services is the non-conversational tone you have to use before asking the service. I see you pre-planned what you were going to say with the itinerary. Most people need more time to communicate what they want and the pressure of an unseen timer creates too much anxiety to use. It's one of the reasons I don't use Siri or google. If I knew that I could hold down the button and have a conversation at my speed and the ai would respond only after I release the button to indicate that I'm through with input, I think everyone would adopt this very quickly. You are currently the tip of the spear when it comes to changing our relationship with technology for the better. Thank you for what you are doing.

The only thing I think they will have to add to the gadget is a screen keyboard, also, maybe it's gonna end up having a bigger screen like a cell phone in order to better accommodate screen keyboard. I say that because it would be pretty weird talking to a device while being in the midst of people, privacy and quietness would go down the drain, simple as that.*

Another interesting feature would be restricted functionalities like web browsing blocking etc for minors or individuals that are sensitive to the internet.

This seems pretty decent but, I am not sure people will want to hold this in their hand to access apps on their cell phone. My advice to this company would be to create a larger (foldable?) cell phone device that embeds the rabbit with the apps. The "rabbit" device might also be useful for desktop. Again, I don't think people will want to actually "hold" this device as opposed to holding their cell phone, or using their laptop. I also agree with MaxRod, that the promo looks down on apps, but ultimately, the Rabbit is entirely dependent on those very apps to be useful.... they should rethink their marketing slightly with respect to interop with apps.

@@dzenacs2011 And holding a phone is already something we do... The idea behind this device is artificial. It is putting an app into a device for no reason other than to segregate it from the device it really needs to be used with. The Rabbit might be useful as a desktop Mic and Camera AI... But why not make it like those modern ones that "track" properly. This system has a lot of cool features, but it is simply not in the right form factor. It might also work if it was shrunk down to a wearable watch. But, people carry phones. and they won't typically do Spread sheet work on a phone. They will do that kind of work on a computer. So, they should consider redesigning this as either 1. AN App on the phone. 2. A wearable device that interacts with the phone, or 3. A Desktop Tracking Mic/Phone that most Video bloggers have been using lately that would interact directly with desktop apps.

The device itself looks really nice tho, not gonna lie - that design company sure did a hell of a job. The functionality however could have easily just been a smartphone app, because in essence that's what it is. It basically maps freeform voice commands to a sequence of actions. It's like making a macro, but on the fly. Under the hood, it probably just emulates screen taps on app UI elements, which - again - could have just been a custom launcher on android for example. They didn't need to make a separate device.

This doesn't seem right to me. We're discussing a standalone device priced at $199, equipped with Large Language Models (LLM), Language Action Models (LAM), vision, speech-to-text, and bidirectional translation capabilities for calls. It's said to provide feedback faster than ChatGPT. However, this appears unrealistic with current technology. Presently, we only have a few functional 7-billion parameter models that struggle to follow typed instructions. There's also the issue of a $1000 MacBook failing to efficiently run a 7-billion parameter model, given its slow per-minute token processing rate. It just doesn't seem feasible.
Additionally, while the concept of LAM is promising, it's not quite there yet. I'm curious about the input method - is it HTML or image-based? And the device would need to host the app, right? It would interact with the interface, I assume. But again, at a $199 price point? That seems highly unlikely.

They have a market and they are not expensive, however, they are completely dependent on apps existing.

I’d wager 99% of actions can be handled locally.
The responsiveness of their information search is interesting, and looks like they’re using something specialised to avoid the overhead of a general LLM, at least in the majority of cases.
Maybe that’s the main innovation of this company - optimising the average case with specialised edge models.
