This is a great video. It's practical; it's easy to understand; and it's to-the-point. I learned something and I believe my shading will be helped. Thank you!
There's only 10 hours left for you to pledge to get the sketchbook. Hurry! Time's running out. Link in description:)
Evan your my hero and inspiration I wrote about you as my hero in school because of how who've helped me and shown how to become a better artist and how to get into the business. Thank you so muchhhhhhhh!!!!!!
That's brilliant and I never would have thought of that... thanks, Evan!
Congrats on the kickstarter success, and I can't wait to get my sketchbook! :)
This is a great series thank you. I was looking for the arm and foot tutorial you mentioned. Please don't stop these awesome videos.
I have been struggling with shadows for years. Never thought of using my toys as shadow modules so stage one has been extremely helpful! And I gotta get the book u r an inspiration!
Wow!! Why am I only discovering your UA-cam channel now. It's going to be so much help. Love it
So glad you've got huge support on this.
from what i have notice, you definitely improved your style. Also you are expanding your expertise. very nice.
Awesome....Thank you so much for this tutorial, Evan. I definitely needed this.
I really love all of ur work You are a real inspiration to me and so yeah
i just got back into drawing. I JUST discovered your channel and I think it awesome.personally I loved all stages..but I loved stage three.more finished look I guess. I wish I would have been able to get in on getting your sketch book!!i think i it would be invaluable to budding sketch artist like myself. keep doing wat your doing. your excellent bro
I looove stage...........................3 because it's the bringing to life of the drawing and adds a lot of once unseen detail cheers for the bus even great work man!
This was awesome! U helped me improved so much in my art work. I loved all the stages but If I had to pick one, it would be the first one. I say that because I'm used to placing shadows only on the left side. The first stage helps u to have a blueprint of where shadows can go.
Using a toy model was such a good idea! Thank you so much Evan! I used to struggle with shadows but this has helped me so so much! Thank you!!!
someone posted this in the crew and here I am :D love the video and this grey tone is ridiculous!
Well, I'm sad she feels that way. I've been giving away FREE drawing tutorials (and tons of art supplies) on my channel for 4 years. Oh well, maybe next time.
MAGNIFICENT UPLOAD!!!
man you are the best drawer ever i look up to you
Thanks for posting this video, this was a real big help. As for the video question, I use an S.H. Figuarts as for my drawings. Very articulated, you can get into just about any position you can think of.
Totally never thought of this. It'll really help, thanks for the knowledge :3
Just wanted to say i did the hand holding a pistol tutorial,,very cool, now for some shadowing techniques, love this site bro!!!
evan i am a big fan of yours you explain every detail in drawing
Congratulations, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. #Brazilian Fan
Great idea ,i have never thought about it,thanks for the piece of advice, greetings from Perú 😺🇵🇪
Stage 3! Don't just stop when it looks good, keep going till it looks great!
I never thought about this. I feel like a fool haha. Thanks Evan. I plan on picking up a couple new toys for myself just for this purpose.
I choose stage 3! Love the range of markers and pens you use! I want those Copics!
I like stage three because it gives you a more in-depth type drawing which makes it look more realistic
Hey, well I'm not from the USA I'm just a little french who likes to draw.
Thanks for the tips about shadows, my main problem about shadow is with things like capes, or suit like the one of Batman you know.
By the way, my favorite step is the 3, I really like inkin the draw with a brush or pen.
Keep going on, you're doing well so far.
Looks so cool
I liked all three stages, they all helped me with the shadows in my drawings, which have never been my strength in art at all.
Hey cartoon block I love your videos I have watched every single one you have really inspired me I'm eleven and want to be a cartoonist when I grow up your awesome
I can't believe I never thought of just using an action figure to study shadows!!! I mainly have vinyl figures by Tokyo Plastic and Futurama figures by Kid Robot.
ive come to the realization that i love using regular old bic ball point pens in inking i can add all sorts of effects with hatching and and cross hatching and varying the pressure
What kind of markers are best for coloring? I have markers but I don't think you can just use any kind without it smearing and I don't want it to smear my art. Is there a specific marker that works best for coloring in?
many would argue that stage 3 is the best but really i prefer stage 2 due to because it looks more like something from a comic and it gives it a sort of menacing sort of feel which by the look the character is giving fits it perfectly. stage one really sort of feels like shading you would find on a character that got surprised but not in a good way. stage 3 is good speaking in how it makes it look more defined, but for comics i like things to be more wild than defined
Great work
I really liked all of them in their one way. the first to stages reminds me of a shady or foggy look. the mild lines also makes for a nice effect. stage 3 was also great because of the detail. If i had to pick one of them I think it would have to be stage 2. simply because it is the one in the middle of them and because not having those strong and hard lines gives it a more realistic look.
I have Sonic the Hedgehog figurines. And I wish that I could have gotten the book =(
Anyway thanks for the very helpful tips Evan, and congratulations on Kickstarter!
What kind of toys do you have?
Yeah....about that....
And I thought I was the only one that couldn't help but interpret these...toys...in that manner XD.
LOL--glad I could help you get an action figure.
So, I just spotted the post! Dude, u are awesome.! I stopped at stage 2!!!!! Can I get those markaz? C'mon bro! I really wanna have more fun drawing!!! Please sit??? Be blessed!
amazing!!!
Oh and the action figures I have and will try to use are 25th Anniversary GIJoes! I love these characters!
Awesome video.
last time I bought pens I purchased microns. I really like them especially the brush. This time around I got a set of prismacolor illustration markers. .005 .01 .03 .05 and .08. I supplemented this with a prismacolor brush marker of the same size. I have a larger prismacolor marker in blk but don't like it for detail. I also purchased prismacolor colored pencils this time around and I like them but need to figure out what household solvent I can use to thin and blend them.
You asked...
I have all the Turtles from the 2012 set and Classic line. I got an 8 inch Lion-o and Tygra (classics) and 2011 Lion-o, Panthro and Mumra
Can you do a video on how to draw hands and I have a question how do you put a shadow on something u want to have color like you don't color your picture in the video so do you have to color your drawing first then put shadows or no I am trying to speak in a way with someone who can't afford copic markers and colors with crayola until I can afford to get copic
+Ryanite50 I recommend drawing your own hands in different poses as practice. You'll eventually get the gist of it.
Where can you find the markers that you used for the outlining and the cool grey markers? Please tell me if anyone knows drawing is my passion and I would really like to pursue it.
I have a bunch of Japanese Animation toys and I use a similar technique.
Tools? I have a little bit of everything from the complete set of Micron 0.5mm pens--and I have 0.1, 0.3, 1 from a pack that I got before the set--Prismacolor chisel & brush tip markers, a bunch of calligraphy markers that I find useful. I also have the complete micron brush tip set. Pencils? My personal preference is Koh-I-Noor.
What markers would you recommend other than copic?
I really dig using sharpies right now, but I want to try out copics. I'll checkout your kick starter page too. By the way, I finished my studio in the house, and we have a new baby named Sarah! So my Mancave Studio as I call it is all done! I'll send some pics!
hey iv been watching sketches on since I was 14. I am now 20 but im a big biggggg fan of ur sketches made me wannna draw a lot more . an I cant wait to buy one of ur book I was hopeing to get the one were u draw our sketches in ther but I really want one of book so im going to buy as my bday money hite tommmorrrow lol. thanks for teach later
this is helpful i would love to use this
that is very smart to use toys
Ah, this is a technique I've been dying to use for a few years yet I keep forgetting about it because I have managed to make messes digitally and erase and have a great shadow in like 2 minutes of screwin around. I'll try to get an action figure and try this method to see if it's neater.
Can u tell me what kind of marker your useing
Can you do a video of the tools you use for colors, shadows, pencils, markers and please
Can you recomend any other marker than copic which is very exspensiv to a cheaper one? =)
Evan could you try using the Pilot Precision V5 pen and tell me what you think.
you can get them at michaels crafts or joans or hobby lobby if yo uhave those in your city, or online is cool to....check out my videos when I use the cool greys
Great tipp!
Evan u really r a shadow master =)
Hi Even, I've been planning on buying a large Copic Marker set, but there is a few different packs i.e. A,B,C,D. so am not sure what pack would be best for the Super Hero drawing that i like to put down.
Please help..
what kind of pen do you use to create the shadows in your character? :/
I like stage 3 it topped it of so to speak. Cool channel.:-)
i liked stage 3 because it has the finer details combined with the CG marks for shadow it is a complete picture...
I used stage 3,because it makes the drawing pop out more
cool!
It would be nice if you could draw Crona from Soul Eater. He's a favorite of mine and your tutorials really help!
Awesome
I'm confused by the shading. When you did the core shadow you put it in on the left side of the shadow. But it seems like the light is coming from the top left. So wouldn't you put the core shadow on the right? Since it's going from light on the left to dark on the right?
what markers do you use
Have loads of Spider-Man toys from when the first one came out!
do u mind doing a other comeptition on best robin picture
i like the Faber-Castell Pitt pens - Shades of Grey - Brush tip
Where can one pick up there kind of markers/pens?
In the beginning of the video, you had a rough sketch of circles of the anatomy of the hero. What is very beginning process and setup for creating poses?
I have a little nendroid figurine I won from a blind box. Maybe now it can be useful something other than sitting on my desk!
Where can buy sketch or drawing equipment ?
i wish u can get them sold in stors i would totally get it as soon as possibe but i just found out about the book like five minutes ago
Hey Evan, could you put the links to the pens, pencils and paper you use in the description?
do you have a how to draw clothing tutorial?
is/will there be anyway to get your sketch book now?! cos i really wanted it i just couldn't pledge at the time
ive got a cole macgrath statue for the infamous 2 hero edition, and i ink with prismacolor premier pens
I use prismacolor markers for my shading, have you ever tried them?
Evan i think stage 3 was the best, because the more work u put in to it the better the more it stood out.
p.s i got the marvel select venom and spiderman action figures
so if I put 5 dollars more will i receive the book?
I wish I could have seen this videos earlier so I could have bought that book
I like all of the stages cause it helps
What brand markers do i use
Please help im from Denmark and i cant find blue or red drawing pencils anywhere :-/ can you please add a link :D
cool stuff, thx :)
Anyone know how to get the brush pen tip to stay "fine"? My brush pen tip never stays fine long enough to make fine lines I have tried numerous times to barely touch the paper but alas the lines still come thickly.
Thank you Evan :D
Are they only selling in America
how do you draw by yourself without coping
Oh my god, that's such a good idea! I've never thought of using toys for lighting, I'm gonna have to try that.
