A trailer in the early 90s with no narration. That’s such a rarity back then. The music and the scenes spoke for themselves.
R.I.P. Donald Sutherland (Ronald Bartel). July 17, 1935 - June 20 2024.😔
Watched this again today, the specials effects are still one of the best to this day, hasn’t aged. Great film
Rip Donald Sutherland 1935 2024
Quite possibly they best trailer ever made.
I love when you see something so memorable where years later, it can just pop into your head and you want to see it again. The first time i saw this trailer, i was a kid who (if i remember correctly) we just rented “Look Who’s Talking Too” from the movie rental store cause it just came to VHS and we hadn’t seen it yet. And one of the trailers played before the Movie (Feature Presentation) was this exact trailer. I was completely blown away and i thought it was one of if not the best trailer id ever seen (to that point and date). Thinking about it now, the music played a big part cause it just fit the moments of tension, urgency and bravery so perfectly. One of the greatest trailers of all time.
I agree on all counts, easily one of the best trailers ever made, though the music is from a different movie, Glory, its PERRRRFECT for this trailer
1:48-1:52
"WAS DAT BEFORE OR AFTAH YOU NOTICED YOU WAS STANDING IN A LAKE OF GASOLINE?!"
DeNiro's delivery was just boss
When I was 5 years old, I watched this every single day. I would dress up in my moms long overcoat, rain boots and id use a detached vacuum hose to pretend I was fighting fires.. Oh and I had a plastic firefighter hat that I got from the fair haha. I was unstoppable boy lol
When a movie trailer is as long as a music track, yet it doesn't spoil the best parts of the movie.
Actually, the music is looped almost twice for the trailer. I was actually disappointed that it was as short as it was when I heard it at the end of “Glory”.
@@ApeksimYet another James Horner composition used for stock trailer music.
The music from "Glory" really brings out the best in this 1991 trailer. That same year, James Horner, the composer for "Glory," scored the music for "The Rocketeer" and "Fievel Goes West!"
Timothy Wiggins I was a bit bummed when I found out this composition wasn’t in the movie! Really suited the trailer very well.
You people are all nuts. Backdraft was a great film.
@@jasonwilson8671 It's not supposed to be realistic, it's an action movie.
This has to be the most underrated film of the 90s and one of the most underrated films of all time. I think one of the reasons its underrated is the year it was released. 1991 it was going up against Terminator 2 Judgment Day, Boyz in the Hood, The Silence of the Lambs, and Cape Fear. No way was it beating out The Silence of the Lambs for "Best Picture as it didn't even get nominated for "Best Picture."
The cast was great. Kurt Russell = one of the most underrated actors ever, William Baldwin = the only Baldwin brother than can act, Scott Glenn = so underrated, Robert DeNiro = he didn't have much screen time but when he did he was phenomenal, = Donald Sutherland = great actor, Jennifer Jason Leigh = great actress, Rebecca De Mornay = great actress, JT Walsh = playing another bad guy role was so great.
One of the firemen looked like Matthew Broderick but I don't think that was him. Excellent film by an excellent director.
I think that was Jason Gedrick that looked like Broderick. 1991 was an incredible year for movies...Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves came out as well. Backdraft, T2, and Robin Hood were my top three that year. They simply don't make movies like these anymore. It's such a shame because I think the majority of people want to see films like these...not CGI fests.
Watching this on VHS again! I love this movie!
I am FDNY 8 years I cry every time I see this movie
@@MoparGuy1625 don’t do him like that LOL, just wants attention most likely
I have to thank my grandmother for the this movie lol. She wanted me to rent it on VHS one night so bad, and so I did. Usually that wouldn't have happened but we loved to watch movies together and my grandfather alike. Turns out she didn't like it as much as she had hoped lol. Imagine that
But I loved it and always have since then.
Saw this trailer when I was about six or seven. It was attached to the "Kindergarten Cop" video we rented. It blew my mind!! Thanks for posting this!
Hell yea! I just had to get my parents to rent it from Blockbuster for me and it immediately became one of my favorite movies ever
Donald Sutherland played an old man 30 years ago... the guy is something else
When I rented a VHS copy of Kindergarten Cop, this trailer appeared before the movie started. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
I just watched this movie on Netflix.
Loved every minute of it.
Kurt Russell is my crush for meny years😍
Filmed with real Chicago Firemen, neighbors of mine from Edison Park. Hits home.
"The only way to kill it is to love it a little."
Oh that Glory Soundtrack…stuck with me since 4th grade 1992
i saw this movie when it came out i was still in the single digits of age.i still love this movie i always wanted to be like the "Bull" and wanted to be a fire fighter when i saw this movie
Loved it!!! Has always been one of my favorite movies. I thought Kurt Russell, Willam Baldwin & Robert Deniro did an amazing job!!
I grew up in Brighton Park Chicago Illinois near the fire station this movie was filmed on
Here after the sad passing of Donald Sutherland. A brilliant performance and a very versatile actor. May he rest in peace.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Crazy didnt know Ron Howard directed it 🎬 🎞 🎥
That glory soundtrack entry fired this up (no pun)
Great trailer for today’s standards especially for ‘91! It gives hints about the plot. Introduces all of the characters. The music is a slow grind. It’s spot on. It’s still the best fireman movie. This film was really hard to make. It never got enough credit.
This film has true heart and meaning! Pure cinema magic! A masterpiece.
R.I.P.Donald Sutherland
If I made a top ten list of movie trailers this would definitely be on the list. Playing the end credit music from Glory is brilliant.
We lost 2 of our Firemen just in the last few years when the city library caught on fire and then went in to get people out. My uncle was a paramedic fireman from the Duwamish District in the greater Seattle area. He lost his life to liver cancer from the exposure to the foam used to put out fires.
The best movie 🎥 ever! My favorite till now...
Did the fire look at you?
I love the Glory theme used in this trailer
Gives a adrenaline rush to where I want to become a firefighter myself
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Backdraft.
And 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Backdraft. This movie is ten years older than me.
I always loved this movie as a kid and still makes me want to become a fire fighter.
The film is a masterpiece Kurt Russell William Baldwin & Ron Howard are amazing
I remember watching this as a kid. It's how I learned the concept of a backdraft.
Someone in my family must have recorded it off the TV on VCR cause I rewatched and was exposed to great sadness from watching a movie. I wonder does that sadness stick with you? Does being exposed to great drama as a kid skew your view on life?
I've always never really feared death. I took risks, I flirted with it. But was never afraid.
I think I couldn't have understood the whole film but was fascinated by fire and the concept of brave men fighting it. Around the same time this released I also watched a show called London's Burning, a TV series about a London fire brigade. As a kid one would be forgiven to think fire fighting TV shows and films were the norm. But not really. In hindsight, it's kind of crazy making a show about firefighters. Its interesting but a bit depressing. I love it. It was pretty much the last thing I could watch on a Sunsay before bed and school the next day.
God bless all firemen. I love this movie.
30th anniversary to this great film
I heard this will be played in select theaters next month or two by Fathom Events.
1:40 bet her garage has seen a lot of fire trucks
This film changed my life forever. When I see firefighters I think about backdraft and the true American firefighters that protect our communities everyday . And I’ll never forget when all firefighters died on 9/11 . The firefighters in my hometown Santa Barbara are the best and I’m very thankful
Wow this takes me way back.....i think I was like 8 or so when this movie came out and my neighbors growing up, her dad was a fireman.....so it was a big deal if ya know what I mean 😆
"Well if the doors open... and it's hot... don't get out."
The trailer is awesome .Music is so well chosen
This film is a classic . 👍
I knew I would like this movie but I had no idea how much I would love it.
It's videos like this that make UA-cam such a great site!!
The previews for the “Glory” VHS brought me here in 1991.
My dad told me he'd "been in worse fires than that." I can't imagine. 🧑🚒🏆
1:14 looks so much like elisha cuthbert.. she would have been 9 years old in 1991, but it looks EXACTLY like her
I saw this movie when I was like 4-6 years old and it was my favourite movie as a kid. It had the opposite effect as a lot of these comments, I was scared shitless of fire haha.
It made me alittle scared but I love the courage of fighting fires and stopping them
I remember seeing this trailer on the Kindergarten Cop VHS when i was kid at my grandmothers house. I remember thinking to myself like damn i need to see this movie lol
I was an actual firefighter from spring 1986 till end of July 2017 in suburban Chicago
I cant stop listening to this!
I agree! In fact I saw this trailer when I was six and told my mom I wanted to be a firefighter when I grew up!
One of my favorite movies
I love this movie this was the movie that was constantly on in the background of my hose when I was growing up I still love it
For those wondering about the trailer's music...it's from the Civil War film Glory.
@pernelldh It's the last track on the soundtrack. It's called "Closing Credits". The trailer only uses the first 70 seconds and loops it.
Fathom Events is releasing this film in select theaters in September of this year.
Firefighters around the world saves lives from car crashes fire etc etc like this movie this was my favorite movies when I was young wish they make a remake of this movie
the fire looks great because its real.
The music isnt in the movie! The Music is from the movie "Glory"
Why does this music make me cry
That is a GREAT movie.
A interesting side note here. I had a bit part in this picture though Universal Pictures among two others.......
“If the doors open and it’s hot don’t get out”
THATS WHAT SHE SAID
I just realized that this is the music from Glory
It's been 20 freaking years with all those big names and I'm pretty sure I've never heard of this movie. That's just sad.
Greatest film about fire fighters!
Going through Fire Academy right now! I can not wait to become a fireman/paramedic.
J.T. Walsh is still my favorite actor. Scott Glenn played almost the same character in Firestorm.
Brilliant film
Watched this movie lastnight and damn... William Baldwin is fioooone af!!!!
This was like a public safety awareness about "back drafts"
2021 just saw this great movie
The 90s we're so good.
Hey do you still Backdraft live show attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood Back then in the 1990’s and the 2000’s but now it’s no longer there but it’s become Transformers 3D Ride (sure than meets the eye)
I’m from Naperville, Illinois a few miles from Chicago, Illinois
In this trailer is they’re playing the music from James Horner music from the American civil war African American volunteering movie Glory. The end credits music from Glory 1989.
Yeahhhh um there's a reason why my class wasn't shown Backdraft in the academy....its this thing called "a movie." It's not a training film. Take your nomex hood and turn it backward on your face during the fire scenes for a nice authentic experience, otherwise enjoy it for what it is...a pretty damn good movie.
Good movie, I watched it again.
Such a good movie!!
This is joe Swansons favourite movie
My favorite firefighter movie
way before firehouse 51 was famous. awesome movie!
When I first watched this movie I wanted to be a firefighter. Turns out all you have to do is apply. I did and I'm a volunteer for over 20 years and seen so much bad, and good. Lost friends one from a heart attack which I held his hand at his last minutes. I drive mostly now and do EMS calls as I'm also a EMT. I could not tell you how many to this day quoat from this movie. At the firehouse we call it the Delmar program which is actually the book version of Firefighter 1. I say it's a requirement to watch before you join. Same with my job in the Petroleum field. I tell everyone you have to watch deepwater horizon. Gets you all rev'd up for the job.
The song playing is the exact same in the civil war move glory. What in the world
i love this movie
I feel the exact same way!!
This is favorite movie to Joe from Family guy
awesome movie … ohh the 90s !!
Been a fireman for nearly 25 years. Even though there was a lot of Hollywood thrown in it was still a great movie. I’m still giving Ladder 49 the edge though. Stay safe brothers .
My uncle’s a fireman & he got to be an extra in this movie
@@joewhitehead3 same with my granddad! always cool to point him out in the procession
@@delaneym2446 Awesome! I don’t think you could see my uncle though
