I think distraction from trying to move on, though it doesn't seem like he's even wanting to move on. So yeah, kinda confusing why he uses the word distraction. Orrr, could he be talking about 2 entities? One he's falling head over heels for, and the other distracting him from his falling, but in the end it's moot coz it's too late for him? Hahaha
Although this song is very repetitive.. it doesn't sound as boring to me. Maybe coz each "it's too late for me" is sang differently? Or maybe I'm just biased coz of the long outro with the yummy drums, and the muffled scream at the end of "it's too laaaaate".. i love hearing desperate Vess, sooo currently it sits at #16, below say that u will #15, above hypnosis, mine and take aim #17-19. 🖤

@@angryroads i know righttt? Hahaha he's maybe delusional that he's trying to move on. Maybe that's his very first step in trying to move on -- deceiving himself into it 😂😂
This song along with the rest of the songs left of this album, I have yet to hear. This is surely a continuation straight from alkaline. Vessel has recognised that he's going backwards rather than moving foward and leaving the past. I believe Vessel is attemting to move on but sleep is distracting him from doing so and possibly dragging him further into this pointless love... I say pointless love since the other party isn't interested. It's preventing him from being able to focus on the future. That's my take on it
The song has a really sad and beautiful melody, lyrically its also pretty sad. For my rating i'll be placing it at 23.... I have shifted "Like That" to 22 and "Fall For Me" at 24... I'll most likely comment my whole list by the end of the Eden album anyway and nothing will be where I orginally placed it lol.
I cannot believe this song is better than blood sport. I OBJECT! Susan took a chip outta me.... ouchie haha.

While I don't subscribe to the Sleep theory, I agree that this song does seem like Vessel sliding back into bad habits even though his previous lover doesn't appear to reciprocate.
Can't wait to see your final rankings! I'm curious to see what our number 1 tracks will be.

YAY ANOTHER ANALYSIS! AND I'M EARLY! (still have to go back but this was on my front page so I'll do this first)
Guys.... there's jellyfish again 👀 Remember the visualizer for "Mine"? And we remember what jellyfish symbolize (namely surrender, acceptance, and faith?) Lyric-wise, this is another very simplistic and straightforward song; he's fended off the hearsay about Sleep from her enemies (the same enemies from "Give"? Maybe we can figure out who they are once I go back to anatomize that track) in Alkaline. Now it's time to drown in Sleep's essence and let her take over all of his senses to the point of no return :) I see this song as his own inner monologue to himself, convincing himself that Sleep is all he really needs, no matter how messed up in the head he is.

It's far too late for me - (Vessel, remixing his predicament for the... 20th time now, based on the tracks? He keeps doing the same old sh*t, and at this point, he knows it's too late for him to change.)

Oh, and I am driven to distraction - (poor Vessel.... can't help but pity him all the time from his own tomfoolery. So broken that he feels like he needs Sleep to distract him from how fractured he is... 😢)

Something much more than I could ask for (it's too late for me) - (Sleep really has him wrapped around her finger. He SWEARS she's the only one for him, and she's better than anything he could've imagined. As if his praise for her in Alkaline wasn't enough!)

I am driven to distraction (it's too late for me, it's too late for me) - (Come on Vessel, we get it already! There's no hope for this guy, he clearly doesn't even WANT to be helped. He only wants Sleep.)
It's too late for me x7 - (his neurosis is really showing here... most of the song is just this line, and what isn't this line is the same repeated phrases more or less. He's too far gone.....

Now, what Dave said about Alkaline being a dream is such an interesting take! I do think the opposite, because I believe that the "enemies" he's fighting off for Sleep are actually his loved ones trying to help him while he's awake, and Distraction is his dream state simply because 1. dreams are a distraction (spot on, Sussi!), and 2. Sleep only arrives to him when he's in a dream state. Overall, this is the lower scored song for me... still enjoyable, but same old shenanigans. I always feel like I have to go through it to get to one of my faves, Descending! Giving it a 34 for me
Really great take here! I am eager to see how your story unfolds as we get to Eden and to Euclid.

@@angryroads Oh boy, I can't wait!!!! The reason why I cry every time I listen to the final lines of Euclid is because of the beautiful callback to Sundowning... a complete rotation of moon *wink wink wink wink*
I swear, this band is absolute genius! It's already been over a year and I'm STILL gushing over them 😭😭😭
I know the feeling. The cyclicalness of the trilogy is absolutely inspiring. The creativeness leaves me an awe every time.
