Daisuke is a developer, illustrator, musician, composer and voice actor. He wrote many tracks in guilty gear, designed the characters and storyline. He also voiced some of the characters in previous titles. And many fighting game story modes have become rather dull whereas his are literal movies. Daisuke is a god.
Daisuke also clearly isn't afraid to break norms (not surprising if Sol really is his self-insert I guess), having put an Amputee (Baiken), a Non-Binary character (Testament), and a Transgender character (Bridget) into the series, all portrayed as strong people who can hold their own. Daisuke is an absolute legend.
Regarding the Guilty Gear, there is a running joke in the community that Daisuke Ishiwatari is a composer that releases his new albums with a free game attached. He designed the characters and storyline. He is the voice actor behind Sol Badguy, one of the main characters in the game. He was also the producer and director for most of the Guilty Gear games.
Guilty Gear is phenomenal, and this is actually one of their safest songs as it doesn't do anything weird. Others use bongos with the hard rock, operatic sections, traditional Japanese strings, and so many times where things just don't make sense, but you can tell they're just having fun with it and its great, and finally with "Drift", my personal favorite, time signatures are basically just out the window.
There is so much good stuff on the GG tracks. Here's hoping he reacts to: - Bloodstained Lineage (GGX version) - Holy Orders (obviously) - Meet Again - Diva - Magnolia Eclair - Love the Subhuman Self - Crawl - Mirror of the World
As far as styling goes: Earlier guilty gear has a lot of neoclassical influence full of meandering leads and harpsicords and shit. Xrd retains some of the neoclassical stuff and incorporates djent, vocals, and other stylings. Strive is a rock opera in which every character theme is stylistically suited to that character and has lyrics from or about their point of view. For a standout track for each period of the series I would suggest Midnight Carnival, Heavy Day, and Mirror of the World respectively. The games in the series are jokingly referred to as "free games that come with an album" for a reason. Daisuke makes soundtracks and games of equally high quality.
Im not even gonna lie to you a little bit, this series has 0 bad tracks. Guilty Gear has never once dropped the ball on a song. I recommend Let Me Carve Your Way
For Guilty Gear, I highly recommend Storyteller, The Roar of the Spark, and Let Me Carve Your Way. So many others but those are some of my faves. Oh yeah, Love the Subhuman Self.
Let me carve your way is too much for a first listen, and someone hearing it for the first time would probably not enjoy it as much as you and I do. (Since you and I and other gg players know how that the song fits Zato's character really well)
@@sadg3 I disagree, a song should be able to stand on its own. So whether someone enjoys it or not is entirely dependant on its own qualities. Too many people claim to like the song, but only in the context of Zato's character. I simply like it because I enjoy it for what it is.
Did a double take when I saw this lmao. GG music is always a blessing, the games really have some of the most well constructed metal/rock songs I've ever heard
My GOD those pronunciation on the names at the beginning were SO GOOD. Though not perfect just yet, I can easily give a solid 98% on that Japanese names pronunciation. Bravo!
Daisuke wears his musical influences on his sleeve in the GG soundtracks, and in the game in general. So many of his character's names and names of moves in the game literally are or reference the names of bands or albums. One of Daisuke's bigger influences is Queen, and when you find a track inspired by Queen, you'll absolutely know it. Honestly, you could make 30+ videos just from the Guilty Gear OSTs. Just pick any track (particularly from Strive, in my opinion) and go.
"Necessary discrepancy" or ramlethal's theme in strive is something even fans of the game were questionable about, the sound in that one is unique, so, i'd like to hear what you'd say about it.
It’s not that it’s bad, as a song you can listen to it fine, I find the problem is that the second half of the song is amazing, and the beginning and first half are just so slow and repetitive that it gets boring if your activity wanting to listen to it, if your preoccupied and it comes on you can listen to it while you do that and be okay but you can’t just listen to it for the sake of listening or else you’ll be torturing yourself till you get to the parts you like
@@spiritlaw It's not as unique as zato's theme then where there's 2 songs combined to make 1 harmonic melody down the line and back to 1 melody in the end, showing the the eddie and zato sides
There are good tracks from all the GG titles, but I honestly think the Strive soundtrack has the strongest package overall. Nearly all the tracks on that games soundtrack are very interesting from a technical standpoint. The variety of styles and experimentation on the OST is just beyond the entries before it.
My personal favourite is Overture for managing what strive did without vocals (mostly) and best rendition of Holy Orders, but i agree Strive is very unique and varied and all soundtracks are worth listening to at least once!
Eh, I think Strive's is the weakest by quite a lot. Most of the songs are pretty annoying to listen to after a while but after over a decade of listening to XX's soundtrack I'm still not tired of it.
This reaction introduced me to your videos and man, these are the best music reactions on YT, your proffesional insight has me discovering new aspects of music I love. I earnestly hope you do more Guilty Gear reactions.
Since we are all recommending a GG song, I highly recommend “Divide my Heart”. It has that heavy rock feeling while being kind of emotional. Also “Freesia” is underrated.
I have been a long time Guilty Gear fan and think this is really cool. I discovered your channel the other day when I was sick and had a lot of time to kill. I really enjoy listening to how you not only explain your process of learning and what steps you incorporate but also what techniques you use to tech. I am interested in learning music so that helps me find footing to learn more as I experiment and discover what it is I want to do. I also find it interesting because it is clear you are passionate and understand what is important to understand as a newcomer and a veteran. When you talked about the guitarists trying to sit down and play along with the entirety of the song without breaking it down into easier to understand basic chords and play along from there to get a grasp to build off of it reminds me of how it is to learn fighting games, where it is more important to build a fundamental understanding of the game and when you do learn combos to not worry about what is flashy immediately since you can work your way up to it in time.
If I may, here are some other Guilty Gear bangers that I, as a music student, think are instrumentally interesting: The Lilly of Steel, Heavy Day, Marionette, Freesia, Smell of the Game, Let me carve your way, Love the subhuman self, Necessary Discrepancy So if you want to react to more Ishiwatari music, I think these will give you a nice impression of his full capacity as a composer. Great video!
Some great GG songs Holy Orders (also do “Holy Orders?” In the same episode) Hellfire Find your one way Armor clad faith Play the hero What do you fight for Rock parade Crawl
A lot of vowel sounds in the middle of words, especially the "u" sound, are often only very lightly pronounced to the point where not pronouncing it all would be closer to the correct pronunciation. So, yeah, "die-skay" not "die-su-kay".
As someone who is a huge fan of Daisuke's games and music, it makes me really appreciative of your music analysis, since I'm not well versed at all in music composing/directing!
Id be excited to hear you reacting to any of the more recent character themes from Guilty Gear Strive since they all differ drastically in both the story the lyrics tell and the mood the instrumentals give off to the player listening. Personal favorites: Hellfire, Rock Parade, and Vanish into Dark
I agree with other commenters that you should do Heavy Day next because it’s from the same era of GG music and a really good theme. Once you hit Strive things get a bit more experimental and I think it would be more interesting to save those for later. That being said, I really want a reaction to Iron-Clad Faith from Strive lol.
Guilty Gear is a series with impeccable sound works. I think my favorite theme is "holy orders iii - be just or be dead", and my favorite sung theme is "tsuki no shihai" (fret not, because it is in Engrish)
Please do carve your way it’s so diverse with all the sections it goes through and the ending is one of the best it’s really quite the song loved your insights especially about composing
1998 was an amaaazing year for video games. Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, Resident Evil 2, Xenogears, StarCraft, Half-Life, F-Zero X, Need for Speed 3, Street Fighter Alpha 3, the list goes on. No matter what genre or kind of game you liked you was eating good in 1998! Guilty Gear 1 is not that good by modern standards, like it's fine but it's not as good as something like Street Fighter Alpha 3 and especially Street Fighter 3 Third Strike which came out a year later. Guilty Gear stuck out though by cutting every possible corner to leave as much space as possible on the game disc for high quality music tracks. Like, the sprites are low res, UI is low res and up scaled, sound effects are compressed to hell but none of that matters because it was all in service of putting high quality music tracks in the game and the music is super good! The music and style was good enough to garner a cult following and on PS2 the series could really thrive with great music and also great gameplay. Most tracks from Guilty Gear XX, Guilty Gear Xrd and Guilty Gear Strive are worth checking out! I'll recommend Necessary Discrepancy just because it doesn't get enough love!
Been playing since x on the Dreamcast. great fighting games. Appreciate you reacting to this had someone using it as their fight music and didn't know the name.
I have a feeling most of your suggestions will be from Strive as it's the newest game with a bunch of new fans. This was great, I would love to see him analyze more Guilty Gear songs! Especially Holy Orders and Momentary Life from GGX2 as well as my all time favourite Big Blast Sonic.
In Daisuke, the u gets devoiced so it sounds more like "die-ske". Devoicing generally only applies to I or u vowels, and doesn't exactly follow a set rule, so it can be hard to know when it'll s show up until you get a feel for it.

Another favorite of mine is Find Your Own Way (Sol's Theme) and the main theme, Smell of the Game. Other standouts: Armor-Clad Faith (Potemkin), Hellfire (Leo Whitefang), Drift (Happy Chaos), Love the Subhuman Self (Millia), and Mirror of the World (Baiken)
YOOOOOOOO I've been asking for this franchise in the last videos, so glad you gave it a try. Try to listen next to Guilty Gear Strive OST, it's fully voiced and it's one of the best OST in videogame history!

WWWWHAAAAt???? NICE! I do love Daisuke Ishiwatari and Guilty Gear music at all! And i would like if you'll react other music from this beautiful game series
GG music is incredible, you should hear to Play the Hero or actually any music from GG STRIVE, everything is just SO GOOD. An honorable mention to 'Beyond the Dark' Life from GG X
If ever there are also BlazBlue songs such as Ragna's theme Onslaught with vocals or maybe Under Heaven Destruction with vocals. *I say "with vocals" because the original when the game came out didn't have any and I believe Daisuke or Naoki write some lyrics for this I could be wrong*
Listen to "Diva" from the Guilty Gear saga, it´s one of the most complex and beautiful composition of Daisuke Ishiwatari. i really want to hear your take on that one. Really nice and complex track.
this is in my top 10 favorite pieces of music of all time, but I always mishear the post-chorus growl as "Gimme honey mustard" and I dont know if I even want to look up what it actually is.
A suggestion for a track is Blumenkranz by Sawano from the anime kill la kill, justa track that got completyely stuck in my head, dunno if it's a great fit for the channel, got some interesting stuff going on in the track.

I'd kinda like to see how he reacts to Falcom Sound Team's music. No end no world, Tie a link of Arcus, Glessing way!!, Sunshine coastline...
I recommend you do Storyteller , Heavy day , ride the fire , divide my heart and sky should be high
TONY YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO "SMELL OF THE GAME"
that is like the Guilty Gear National Anthem
WWWWHAAAAt???? NICE! I do love Daisuke Ishiwatari and Guilty Gear music at all! And i would like if you'll react other music from this beautiful game series
Lily of steel is my favorite from the franchise
If you continue to do any more songs from GG I'll be happy
I do want to see your reaction to holy orders be just or be dead. It is a classic from the series.
When "Armor clath faith"? Guilty Gear music is awesome!
Lord Daisuke. we in here.
I recommend the song "Holy Orders?" It's the best song in the series
GG music is incredible, you should hear to Play the Hero or actually any music from GG STRIVE, everything is just SO GOOD.
An honorable mention to 'Beyond the Dark' Life from GG X
I would love to see a reaction of "Let me Carve your way". The main theme of Zato, in GG strive.
Next I recommend either heavy day, break a spell, or armor clad faith
Gg is just a musical album that includes a movie and a fighting game for free as well Daisuke is just too generous XD
If he's doing GG he HAS to do armor clad faith.
YESSS Guilty Gear has THE BEST soundtrack of ALL TIME ever out of EVERYTHING
We really do live in an armor clad faith
If ever there are also BlazBlue songs such as Ragna's theme Onslaught with vocals or maybe Under Heaven Destruction with vocals. *I say "with vocals" because the original when the game came out didn't have any and I believe Daisuke or Naoki write some lyrics for this I could be wrong*
Listen to "Diva" from the Guilty Gear saga, it´s one of the most complex and beautiful composition of Daisuke Ishiwatari. i really want to hear your take on that one. Really nice and complex track.
you gotta react to Diva from Guilty Gear Overture that track is amazing
this is in my top 10 favorite pieces of music of all time, but I always mishear the post-chorus growl as "Gimme honey mustard" and I dont know if I even want to look up what it actually is.
Story Teller, it's a treat.
You are going to absolutely love Guilty Gear!!! Please react to Ride The Fire
Diva of Despair is my favorite, this one is good though
you should react to story teller from daisuke it's a really good one too
A suggestion for a track is Blumenkranz by Sawano from the anime kill la kill, justa track that got completyely stuck in my head, dunno if it's a great fit for the channel, got some interesting stuff going on in the track.
You're listening to guilty gear? Lets rock
