Generally even the thought of quads makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck. For no other reason than folks buying one and thinking the public streets are the place to try out that ALL TERRAIN. Then the cops start getting involved primarily because those things are using Trombones for exhaust pipes. I personally don't care what you want to ride in the street but I don't want to hear that going up and down my street all day when I need to go to work tonight. Put a muffler on it or do what you have done convert it into a street legal electric scooter. I use to sell electric bikes I had built in the past and had one fellow not get an e-bike his grandson wanted but instead opted for a gas powered quad, He came back a month later and said after his grandson got a $750 traffic fine for driving it around their neighborhood. For about the cost of the fine not to mention half the price of the quad the kid would have had a street legal ebike. I sold him a bike for $400.00.
At the 4:11 mark when showing the extension you added to make it longer, sitting here in my chair staring at the screen eyeballing that thing, it looked way off center? If so, sure hope you straightened that out! But this thing looks awesome finished!
Thanks, it was a fun build. The original quad had an offset frame (due to the engine and drivetrain) but the centerline from front to back is fairly straight. It was too much work and not necessary to hack up the frame to remove the offset. I've been busy making how to videos over at Hardy Renovations for the last year or so. ua-cam.com/channels/QzRGOYf4fSytAySfZb9S6g.html I'd be grateful for the sub over there :}
Quads are not road legal in my suburban environment. However, there are many electric scooters and e-bikes around, so I just transport it (and my two other gas quads) to my family's place in the country when we want to go riding. Yes, I basically just swapped from gas to battery.
Does the motor freewheel? I'm looking at a similar conversion. These motors can be found with a 6:1 reduction gear but you lose the ability to back drive it.
Hello, how much teeth have rear sprocket and how much the front? And whatvtype of chain is compatible with them? I have the same motor, but no chain, and I am a bit lost...
The sprocket that came with the motor was a bicycle chain sprocket. As you saw in the video, I had to replace that with a #420 chain and sprockets that I welded in place. That motor is very low torque, high rpm. So the smallest sprocket you can find should be fitted to the motor and the largest one that will fit on the axle will give you usable speed and torque.
@@chrishardy8616 thank you, I just made calculation, my motor hqve 2800rpm, and sprocket have 10teeth, rear one have 40 teet, and with my tyres speed will be over 60km/h. So I came with soutin - another reduction between motor and axle, so gears will be like 10T->19T ON THE SAME AXLE AS 10T->40T, and this gives me 32km/h top speed. I hope the torque is good enough to climb over the pile of dirt :-)
@@jishimoari I think my sprockets were 10T -> 70T Even with this, my torque is lower than I want. I am a 200lb gorilla. My daughter is 100lb and it is just about right for her. Top speed is around 25km/h
I mean to each there own but the gas motor on these things are way faster than an electric motor. I took the speed limiter off of mine and it runs about 35 to 40 mph
Nice way to repurpose a spent Chinese quad. I love electric power.

Had a similar idea to this but with a lynch motor and belt drive.
keep it up
What is the type of the motor you have used? and does it need a driver if I want to control it autonomously or remotely?
So what was your top end?
Cool...I hope that you bought your daughter a helmet...
Amps to the Motor ?
Been trying to get a et of them plastic the whole of lockdown lol
Awesome!
Is this Ottawa?

What size wheels does this have? Tha ks
What you do with the gas motor?
“Breaking Dad”
cool
Low power is probably because you mounted motor left side which means you have to reverse phase wires and hall sensors
It looks great! you dont know if homemade electric quads are legal?, its feel like you only upgrade the motor?

Yes, I basically just swapped from gas to battery.
@@chrishardy8616 Oh okay, thank you!
This needs a proper Electric motor.
You couldve used a pitbike extended swing arm easily to mount it lol

Yes it coasts when there is no throttle unlike motors with electric brakes or regen.

Plus not to mention you don't gotta wait for it to charge. Just put more gas in it and keep riding
good job
Cool
You do know electric is street legal
Can you please tell me what type of quad and how many cc's
It was a Chinese ZStar 100cc mini quad. I think its a honda engine clone? Ran like garbage. Idle kept creeping.
dope
did u tested on a hill to see if have enaf power ? and at 13:45 is she wearing sockets? o.O
Very low torque ... but it has a great top speed. I wish the motor was twice the power, however it would be more dangerous wearing only socks. Lol
WHAT MOTOR
it is a 36VDC 1kw motor from ebay. It is 36V because the battery packs are 36V,
Paired with an 800w? controller .. I think.
Where did you get 4 hoverboard batteries? Did you have to take 4 toys apart to get the batteries?
google "battery hookup" .. its a surplus and used battery market. Ebay has them too.
6:26 this clip should have hit the cutting rooms floor
Come see my new channel at ua-cam.com/channels/QzRGOYf4fSytAySfZb9S6g.html?
