Yellow gold also contrasts very well against snow in the winter. I think people mainly have a problem with the durability.. gold scratches when it brushes against your cuff. Stainless steel Rolex’s can go for 10 max polishes while their precious metal counterparts can only withstand 5.

I have the same piece as well. One of the best I would say. Those who have this model should know, how easy to wear this piece out even thou it is a full yellow gold model. Excellent dial, and the red is the best highlight with the matte face dial.

Hey SC, the Vacheron 222 is a very nice piece but as you said the retail price is way too high. For that money I would prefer a gold royal oak chronograph and save some money or a nice 37 - 39mm.

The 222 looks great. But not a very good value proposition. I am holding off for now. If they release a stainless steel version next year, that could change things up. But then it would be even harder to obtain. 😲

The 222 is worth it and more…I absolutely do not wear yellow gold, but as you pointed out, the brushed finish coupled with the lighter shade of yellow makes it a relatively low key watch compared to say, a Yellow Gold Daytona. I have a 6.5” wrist and it fits perfect.

The 222 is indeed a stunning choice! Its classic design, carries an elegance that feels subtle yet luxurious. It’s timeless but still stands out in a very refined way.

In my youth, I used to dislike gold because it's "yellow", and wore silver accessories exclusively (no watch), and of course, black clothes.
Now I've grown out of black and learned to enjoy combining colors meaningfully, including brown, and the possibility of yellow gold brings fresh air.

I'd argue that the 222 is comparatively priced. It needs to be compared to the pricing of 16202BA / 16202OR from AP and 5811/1G from Patek. These are the modern variants of the Jumbo and Nautilus. Gold Jumbo is 80K+, the Nautilus is the cheapest at 70K+. The 222 was launched in 1977 as a direct response of VC to the Royal Oak (1972) and Nautilus (1976).

My only gold is a 35 mm Omega Constellation gold capped piece on leather strap. Full polished gold is too showoff, or for women. Full gold would simply feel uncomfortable. Brushed steel is my metal - or titanium. As for gemstones, that would be the last straw. Impossible. Nice VC 222, brushed gold and moderate size make it elegant.

For myself PLATINUM is my number one for Rolex - I dont have it anymore, but I had a platinum daydate 228236 Roman’s ice blue fluted bezel 40mm (I miss it!!)
Yellow Gold is a VERY close second place
Followed by (eve)Rose Gold in third place - but to be fair I’ve never owned a solid rose from Rolex yet.. only a two tone root beer.. I do own solid Pink Gold as they call it from AP (royal oak chrono) and for AP I prefer their pink gold over their yellow gold
Last place, white gold - but thats not to say I dont love it because I do. I especially love your new WG Daytona
EDIT: by the way, I am SO JEALOUS of your wrist size.. you have the perfect sized wrist for a watch enthusiast because all watches look great on you.. you can enjoy 36mm watches all the way up to 42 which anything above that probably isn’t anything wed care about owning anyway.. I have huge 7.63 inch wrists size and it sucks because honestly anything less than 41mm looks small on me (also have muscular oversized forearms so when you couple that with large wrists it really tends to dwarf watches unfortunately) basically the best way I can put it is a DayDate40 on me proportionally speaking looks the same as how your DayDate36 looks on you.
