I really like how you're expanding your tools and knowledge. I have no doubt these episodes help many wood turners. Thanks for sharing this! 😊
Thanks Cynthia, I love learning about anything and everything😀
I'm so excited for you to have this new stuff, looking forward to all the beautiful peices you turn out.
Me too, thanks Mary 😄
Interesting idea, If they make a 100mm base jaw then you could have 50mm insert jaws. Solves the major problem with the original jaw system of spending hours on your knees searching for that dropped screw! Very pleased the base jaws are compatible with the SC4 (and by implication others using the Nova system as well)
Exactly! I was thinking the same, I'm going to suggest it to them. Also why does that one screw you drop always disappear into shavings 😂
@@MikeHolton Shavings are very strongly magnetic for small items that you want, even if you swept them to the other end of the workshop before changing jaws, that one screw would still be in the shavings 😂🤣
@@PeteTwistedTrees 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Mike, fortunately you answered the question I had having seen the advert for this system. I am pleased that jaws will fit the SC4 and 3 chucks, I assume that the jaws will be available separately rather than only with a chuck. Like many turners I have multiple SC4 chucks already, therefore I would not invest in a new incompatible system.
@@edwardukleja4583 Hi Edward, indeed everything is available separately www.yandles.co.uk/tools-machines/woodturning-tools/woodturning-chucks-jaws/record-power-victory-versalo/
What a cute little egg bowl. ❤
Really enjoy the reviews of the new toys you're getting now. It's nice to see the growth of the channel and that suppliers are recognizing your amazing talent.
Thank you so much 🤗
Thanks Mike as a new turner I have learnt a lot from you. As usual a very good and comprehensive video.
Thanks Nigel, I appreciate it 😀
Mike, love seeing new tools! It’s so nice to have the right tools for the job on hand. That new jaw setup not only saves you set up time but it also allows for more flexibility with what you can turn. Love it! Cheers mate 😎
Thanks, it's certainly going to be very useful, I hate changing jaws but this is just so simple 😁
excellent job on reviewing the victory system , looking forward to more of your info.
greg
Thanks Greg 😀
A brilliant demonstration of the product and skills. Thank you.
Glad you liked it Simon, thanks 😁
What an incredible set of tools; to say that your not a spindle turner, you certainly do an amazing job, that was a great explanation. Thank you.
Thank you very much Paul 😊
The cutest small bowl your wife must have been happy with her her gift. 😄 💖
She was 🙂
Thank you for the demonstration, Mike. I enjoyed watching. I know nothing about chucks. But thank you. 😊xxx
Glad you enjoyed it Elaine! 😀
Excellent video on some pretty impressive equipment. You mentioned prior to turning the small bowl that you can’t use a screw chuck to mount small pieces on the lathe. I use one all the time, being my favorite and fastest way to mount small blanks securely. It’s a homemade chuck with a 9/16 protruding wood screw that I use a 5/64” drill bit for the hole in cross grain blanks. The screw is centered and epoxied in about a 2” piece of oak with a tenon made to fit my 2” chuck. I have some hardboard spacers to mount pieces as thin as say 7/8” thick and still have enough space to turn a shallow bowl without piercing through the bottom. I would imagine with the spacer/s I could drill a hole not much deeper than 3/8” and still have a secure hold because the screw is quite aggressive and really bites into the wood. If I can tighten the blank by hand decently hard against the flat of the screw chuck it is a very positive hold, the friction against the face will be plenty to handle the rotational forces you produce cutting on a smaller diameter piece like your small bowl. You really should try to make one. You’ll fall in love with it if you like doing smaller things. This was an excellent review. I have a home made screw chuck for my 4” jaws also for medium sized projects. I’ve saturated the tenon on the homemade chucks with thin CA glue to have a strong tenon that can handle being clamped down on by the jaws repeatedly. Larger blanks I will use my factory wood worm screws in my 4” chuck. I’ve never had a blank come off the screw of my homemade chuck. In my opinion, it’s the best way to quickly mount wood so long as your grain orientation of the blank from that flat surface is one you can live with. If I need to orient my grain more evenly on say a live edge bowl I will turn between centers and tilt the blank first to align my grain the way I need it before truing it up. Take care, Scott
Thanks Scott, what I should have said is that you cant use the worm screw that comes with t chuck for this small size. If course you can make your own that can be decreased or increased in size :)
dear mike.. what a great demonstration.. thank you.. what a brilliant solid beautifully engineered system.. its fantastic.. even to watch i could 'feel' the safe security of its use.. which is of course very much of a key prime importance with this practice... and for the quick demonstration.. you still showed us how you 'knock something out'.. that is beautiful. much love xxc
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it 😁
The tiny pieces you made today are beautiful. I am glad you like the new chuck so much.
Thank you so much Nikkie 🙂
This is a remarcable, quick system, worthy of a purchase! I must keep this in mind for my birthday.
It really is Paul 😁
If you can remove a set of jaws from a chuck and fit another set of jaws in 3 minutes, you ought to submit that time to the Guinness book of world records. That's a great time even with a hole in your garage door to keep your lathe chuck cool! You certainly didn't display that promise when fitting the retaining grub screw to the chuck! I am slightly more mature than you and chuck jaw screws are the bain of my life, the beauty of these jaws is once you have inserted the screws, when in use one just has to loosen and tighten them as each set of jaws has its own screws which can be left in position. I have mine on pre order and can't wait for them to arrive. Great video Mike
Thanks Bob, I hate changing jaws, I keep dropping the screws and then spend ages looking through wood chippings to find it lol 😁
That looks like a great system. But to use it, I would have to get a new lathe. I am still using a 1969 Sears lathe, I inherited from my Dad. LOL
@@chrispark3758 Haha that was the year I was born lol 😀
Hi Mike, that was very interesting showing how the new rapid change jaws work. I think record are really thinking of the woodturner when they make everything backwardly compatible. You have now impressed me on your small bowl talent. Thanks for the video.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Haha thanks Roy 😀
Great job on the product review Mike
Thanks Dale 😀
Hi Mike.
Thanks for the video.
Very informative and I am sure, extremely helpful to your fellow turners.
I'm just happy to have a MH video 😂
Have a super Saturday and reat of your weekend.
Oh and loved the wee bowl 🥣
Haha thanks Fiona 😂
Helpful tip: I have a fair few Nova chucks, which the RP ones are based on. As you found, the little leather discs and grub screws are really fiddly to fit - in fact I gave up and just used the grub screw without the disc. However, I lost a grub screw some time ago, and when searching for a replacement, I found that you can buy ones with a nylon pad already attached. I bought a pack and have fitted them to all my chucks; they are much easier to fit, and do the same job as the leather pads.
Thanks! I will look out for them, that leather bit is a pain!! 🤣
I loved the wee, little bowl. ❤️🪵❤️
Thanks, my wife does as well 😀
This is an excellent idea for quick jaw change. I think an additional 4 inch base jaw with inserts would make the system even more versatile.
Thanks Ross, a few of us are thinking the same 😀
Officially jealous😅, that system looks like heaven for changing jaws. Great review video Mike 💪👌
Thanks Wendy, I love it 😁
Great review Mike, something to add to my wish list!!
Haha thanks Andy 😀
Thank you for this video, and for being upfront with us. If I ever have the space to get my lathe set up again, I may have to make the investment.
You're welcome, and I hope you can get it beck up and running 😀
Congratulations on your new tools, anxious to see more spindles and tiny bowls😊
You and me both! 😁
That is a great looking set that will make projects easier to to do ❤🎉
I think it will help a lot Wendy, thanks 😀
Mike. Very good video and informative. I am new to woodturning and I am getting to grips with it thanks to your easy and relaxed methods. Cheers!!
Glad to help Pat and thanks 😊
New toys! What fun! 😊❤
Thank you 🤗
That looks like a very handy set up for sure. Great demo.
Thanks Jordan ☺️
That is so cool and versatile and good that they can fit the SC3/4 great video 👍🏻👍🏻🐝
I know, very useful idea 😉
Fantastic video Mike Ive seen these on a few sites but seeing them actually in use has made me very tempted indeed
Haha thanks Colin 😁
Oh.....a set of those little bowls would be so nice to have! I can think of Lots of things to use them for. Cant wait to see everything you make with the new equipment.
Thanks so much Nana 😁
That little beech bowl is so cute ❤ those versatile jaws look a great idea
Thank you! 😊
Thanks Mike. very interesting. I had already preordered the set to go on one of my sc4 chucks so excited to see your positive review.
cheers
Tony
Have fun with yours 😉
Great review. Looks much easier to change jaws over without losing screws. The dome jaws will come in really useful
They will indeed, I'm sick of loosing screws lol 😁
Only a person from the North of England could have made this video.... everyone is a chuck there.
Your friends a d family are going to be overrun with egg cups and bathroom light pulls now.
On your other chuck you always seem to tighten up two keys when attaching things.. on this one there are two keys but you only did one of them... it's a woodturner secret probably?
This was tremendous fun and that little bowl an utter cutie.
Thanks Mike for what you do.
Thanks Chuck 😂
Just like Christmas getting new toys to play with. They look like great additions.
I think they are going to be invaluable 😀
Hi Mike, Thanks for the review. After I get my new garage stretcher, stretch the garage, get a new lathe, I believe I'll get this new set of interchangeable jaws & chuck from RP. Sweet!!! 😉Take care & keep turning. Bill Riley
Haha we all need a garage stretcher 😀
That’s a cool Chuck! Looks very well designed and engineered, as well as being interchangeable with older SC3 and SC4 chucks .
It is, they thought it out well! 😁
Oooo, changing those jaws looked very... "Satisfying"😁. Nicely solid and well made. Hope you enjoy playing with them😁
They are! And I'm sure I will 😊
Looks like a pretty good system. Thanks for the info, stay safe.
It is and thanks, you too 😀
Hooch appears to approve. He has been watching very closely.
Thanks for the great review of Record’s new chuck. Might need to give it a look as my Chuck is 20+ years old and needs to be upgraded.
Thanks, you could do much worse than this! 😄
Very interesting a novel approach, only replacing 4 screws instead of eight. Look very suitable for a wide range of projects, good presentation.😊 Tasmania Australia.
Thanks, it's a good idea 🙂
I have the Nova Infiniti chuck system and agree on how handy the quick change feature is. I have a range of jaws up to its number 7 size and the sizes all overlap.
Thats pretty cool, I'm not familiar with the system, I'll look into it 😁
Looks like a great system, well thought out.
It certainly seems to be 😀
Very informative video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 😀
😊 having just purchased the sc4 chuck its grreat that the new jaws will fit especially the small dome jaws.😊
They worked it out well, no compatibility issues at all !
Hi Mike, yet again you’ve cracked it , and what a pretty little bowl 😊
Thank you! Cheers Anthony 😄
So one chuck to rule them all, and Mike now set up for some hardcore speed turning really small and delicate pieces of wood.
Lol bring it on 😊
wow excellent piece of design and engineering
That's what I thought 😁
Can't wait to see what new projects you come up with now that you have fancy jaws.
Thanks Jake, I do have a few in mind 😀
Nice review, Mike 👍
I, too, would like to see the system expanded to cover the "normal" size jaws.
This system is great, being quick change, but its not addressing the "standard" sized jaws, just the smaller detail jaws!
Just my thoughts 😉
Keep up the great content 👍
I agree Jon, hopefully they will develop a larger set of exchangeable jaws 😀
Looks like a great system. Thanks for your thoughts at this point. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts after 6 months or a year of use.
Thanks Doug, remind me and I'll let you know 😄
Interesting Mike. My first impression is I do not care for just one screw holding the jaws in. But the jaws you were supplied are for smaller work so that just might be fine.
For very quick changing the EZ tools chuck seems to be nice. But having 7 sets if chucks I most likely will not be doing either one. Well unless someone wants to send me one LOL
Haha they are pretty solid when in place Gary, but I think your covered with 7 😂
@MikeHolton you can never have too many 😁
you are a great instructor i dont turn but i i did understand all your video and yes the little bowl is cute
Thank you! 😃
I really enjoyed your video. It was very interesting.😊
Thank you! 😃
I love the tiny bowl.
Thanks, my wife did as well 😀
Great review Mike.
Please enter me into the competition to win the Victory Chuck and the full set of Versalock jaws.
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞😜
Hahaha 🤣
Very informative Mike, I use Axminster and Vevor chucks, but this system looks a lot quicker and easier much less faffing around.
Thanks Julian, it really seems to work well 😀
Once again you’ve enlightened me
Thanks 😊
Il semble vraiment intéressant ce système !❤
J'ai l'impression que ce sera très utile !
The detail on that finial says it all.😊
Haha first take as well lol 😀
I can't wait to see more spindles and small bowls!
Thanks Jonathan 😀
Very cool time saver and solid mounting option.
Yes indeed! 😁
Much better system.I'm sure you'll be able to put it to good use
Thanks Cheryl, I hope so 😁
Ooh nice box! Gotta love you Mike 😂😂😂❤
Haha thanks Stephen 😂
A very nice very functional new toy you have there.
It sure is Scott ☺️
Looks like 'Christmas' has come very early this year. I'm sure you'll have fun making lots of wonderful future projects. The tiny bowl is very nice too.
Thanks my friend 😀
Can’t wait to see those in Canada.
Thanks, I'm sure they will be over soon 🙂
Great video Mike very informative, the chuck and jaws look very impressive, especially the little dome jaws, perfect for delicate work, now to find somewhere in Ireland to buy,
kind regards from Will👍👍
Thanks Will they are not out yet but will be next month 😄
@@MikeHolton thanks Mike 👍🙂
I have 2 Record and 2 Nova chucks so this looks very interesting since the jaws fit them
They do indeed 😁
Very interesting system. It should open up new possibilities.
I agree Harold, completely 😊
Great information, I am going to look to buy set.
They work great! 😃
Sehr guter Spindel Drechsler 👍danke für das Video und dem Test👍
You're welcome and thanks 😄
This video was very interesting although I’m not a woodworker you did a great job on explaining things. By the way I love the tiny bowl and wish it was for sale. 😊❤
Thanks Debora, my wife has it now, but I may make up a few 😀
Hope to acquire some record power chucks some day. Good video and nice bowl.
Thanks Mark 😀
Think I'll be upgrading my sc4 Jaws for this.
Looks extremely good and unique
It's very useful and so easy! 😁
Great demo Mike. Next holiday to turners retreat I shall most definitely be having a look at these (depending on price) as I do like to bring as much wood back to Oz from the mother land as I can. Cheers.
Good idea although you do have some amazing wood over there as well 😀
@ I couldn’t agree with you more and I do bring a lot of what I turn home for family. If you would like me to bring anything specific back please don’t hesitate to ask. I do get a large weight allowance so it shouldn’t be an issue.
@@Bazz272 Wow thanks! Anything but mallee or jarrah, I can get them easily over here but anything else is good. I'm happy to cover any costs :)
@ have a look at a wood called Gidgee, Sorry I expect there’s a Latin name but I’m not familiar with it but its very very hard to turn but it comes up beautiful. The first time I saw it I thought it was baker light, like the old light switches. Don’t worry about costs because you give me and a lot of my mates lots of inspiration. Miliput sales must be going through the roof down here due to you.
@@Bazz272 That would be amazing, I have heard of it and know it is a very hard wood, right up there with the hardest, I would love to try some!!! Thanks so much
Congrats. That is an awesome system. Maybe one day. 😂
Haha thanks Ken 😁
They look pretty decent and I like the concept and moreover the compatibility with the older chucks. Record have really thought about this one and come up trumps.
I agree, it's a great idea ☺️
Merci très belle démonstration et très beau petit bol. J'inscris ce mandrin en suggestion pour mon anniversaire.
Good idea and happy birthday when it comes 😁
Lovely little bowl there. Nice review lots of usefull info. Would have been nice if you had put the new jaws on your old chuck.
Good point, I have done it and they do fit ☺️
very informative helps to make the choice
Glad it was helpful! 😁
I guess it’s slightly interesting. Converting the current chuck to use these solves some part of the problem, but not if i want the entire range. Something like the easy wood chuck where there is no tool changes for the jaws would be the optimal. Here i still have to deal with 4 screws rather than 8. Also my investment in all the different jaws i do have will not work with this - just my existing chucks. If somebody came out with something similar to the easy wood chuck at a lower price point i might consider that - but given i have 4 sc4’s each already with jaws mounted not sure of the worth for me. If i was just starting out a far better proposition but for existing people maybe getting the adapter will make it faster for a small set of things i do. Thanks for the review.
You're welcome 😁
That was fun!
Thanks Flo 😀
Interesting design. They've improved on how the Axminster odonnell system works. However, with a design like this, it all depends on the accuracy of the milling as to how well it will align and run true. Can't say I've been very impressed having to send back two SC2 chucks due to poor milling.
That's a shame!
Awesome demo. That system looks amazing. That would be better than buying several accessory Mounting jaws. To go from chuck jaw to chuck jaw. Interested if they would fit the 2 Nova Chucks I have. Keep up the amazing work Friend. 👽
Thanks I think they might 😁
I’m visiting Yandles on Tuesday. Apart from attending a sharpening session, guess what I’ll be looking at? 🌞
Haha not sure they will be in stock yet 😊
Look great Mike, I've only got the one chuck and the standard jaws, Bloody birthday is not till December though, Oh well patience
Thanks David, patience is a great virtue as they say 🤣
Very interesting info.
Glad you think so! 😀
Cheers Mike, useful demo. As well as performance the key issue this is trying to solve is the speed of swapping jaws. Your timing change over was good, but it looked like it could be quicker if the screws were screwed in further in the jaws you're placing into the chuck before you start?
I still need practice to be smooth. The screws can't be in too far or they get caught on the edge unfortunately ☺️
Looks like it works very nice if I had would lathe I would definitely be buying one. PS I really liked the little bowl.
Thanks so much Robert 😊
Your finial was pretty spot on.
Thanks Tony, I was petrified but still enjoyed it 😁
An interesting chuck design. I see no significant difference in the Victory chuck and the SC4 I have. Both great chucks. I like the dome jaws as well. They have more of a bite than the dome jaws for the SC1 and SC2
Hi Mike, from what I can see the main difference is the green band, unless they did something clever inside, next time I talk to the guys I'll ask. The dome jaws really hold well! The main difference between these and the dome jaws for the sc2 is that they don't have the chamfer on the inner edges.
Huge fan by the way, you are one of the turners that got me started 😁
News tools!! Awesome!
Thanks Michael 😀
Lovely little bowl, perfect for salt when you need a pinch! Seal it food safe and you can use it for sauces to dip in.
Great idea Jeni 🤠
Way cool Mike!
Thanks Scott 😀
I like the quick change feature. I hate changing jaws the slow way!
Haha me too 😀
That looks like a nice system.
For a while there, I thought we would get through the whole episode with no sanding! Unthinkable!
Haha I nearly got there 😀
