    Aloha Coach Tobias, awesome shots to add to my shot arsenal. This shot once mastered will make any drop shot more deadly the slice and reverse drop shots become incredibly effective when setting up opponents expecting a conventional drop shot. The spin and steeper angle will surprise opponents. Deception and tempo will also drive opponents crazy. Thank you for this well thought out video. You are an awesome coach.

    What about normal slice straight forehand drop shot from overhead position (backhand) like Momota? That is super hard to play. Also, can you add more "steepnes" by playing not at 3, but at 2 or 10 respectively? Thanks!

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  4 роки тому +3

      As you say the straight drop with slice on the forehand is extremly hard. Rajiv Ouseph was in my eyes the player, that got that shot to perfection but almost no players are really good at it or use it at all. I you want to play it you have to slice more over the shuttle so I would say around 1 or maybe even 12 o'clock depending on where you hit it. But really hard to get the timing right and hit it with control.
      And second question: Yes you can hit a little higher (2 or 10) if you want to play it steeper =)

    Hi Tobias! Nice video as always! :) Question: Why it is much difficult to execute the reverse slice in the forehand side? Thanks!

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  3 роки тому

      On the forehand the movement for the straight reverse slice goes more sideways than the movement from the cross drop on the round the head corner. You also hit it more beside the body what makes it harder to control the slice.

    Why there’s no explanation about the role of the wrist in these shots? I‘m quite curious because In Indonesia we are being taught we use our wrist in almost every shots in slice shots we can try to control the depth of our slice with our wrist...the more we spin our wrist make the more closer to the net our slice shots. It‘s really interesting slight difference technique I found so far.

    When doing a forehand cross slice or late rearcourt straight slice (recovery shot), some people change the forehand grip to a more neutral (i mean with the thumb at the same level as the index) and use the wrist action to generate more spin, do you recommend it ?
    Personally, the pronation movement does not seem natural and I feel that I have to snap my wrist a little bit when using the standard forehand grip, that's why I revert to the method above

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  4 роки тому

      Yes that helps to get more slice into it or do it with a more natural movement but again here: Good opponents will figure out the different grip/racket position and it will be easier for them to read your shots. With the late straight slice it is more about control and not deception so there I would recommend to turn it a little. When you play on a higher level and don't want to show to early what you do it can be a disadvantage.

    Is there a way to "fake" a slice? A shot that looks like a slice but actually isn't?

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  4 роки тому

      The goal should not be to fake shots, but to make all shots look the same for as long as possible. Slicing is something, that only happens in the very last moment of the hitting phase so actually there is no way to fake a slice in that way I would say.

    Hi Tobias and thanks for your videos, always useful and accurate. I've been learned to slightly change the grip for the forehand slice. Basicaly, I rotate the racket before the shot to make the slice easy. What do you think about that ? Is that only for beginners ?

    • @tobiaswadenka8435
      @tobiaswadenka8435  4 роки тому

      Yes you can do it to make it easier in the beginning. From a certain level you will see that players can read small details like that so the deception of the slice is not really working so good anymore so that is important to keep in mind

      @abdullahahmad184 4 роки тому +1

      They can't see the grip...
      But they can see the angle of the racket face.
      So forehand V grip used on right side has racket face facing the net.
      If I am pro player and I see that racket is not exactly facing straight to net but rather slightly cross (to cross court side) I will know you're trying to hit slice with same motion for the straight shot.
