From a certain point of view, obi wan did kill Anakin. If he dident cut off his limbs, Vader woudent need his painful armour, so he woudent be as much powerful as he was as Vader in his suit, so there would be more Anakin alive in Vader. No hate on obi wan by the way
George had to reveal it to one other person, though prior to post-production and that would have been none other than James Earl Jones himself. After all, he's the one voicing the iconic line.
Mark Hamill said that George had told the director Irvin Kershner, and then Irvin came and told Mark that they were the only three people that knew about the twist and if it leaked George and Irvin would know that it was Mark
I think it was Lucas, Hamill, Jones, and most of the writing staff who knew. David Prowse, Vader's suit actor, apparently said that he wishes he was told in advance because he would've used different body language for the reveal if he knew what he was actually supposed to be saying.
Anakin's defeat on Mustafar was, in effect, the "death" of Anakin Skywalker and the "birth" of Darth Vader. So what was told to Luke was true... From a certain point of view.
I saw an interview with Mark Hamil where he said he knew about it for a year and a half. The director told Mark and told him that only the director, George Lucas and Mark knew. He was also told if it leaked the director and George would know it was Mark.
Vader: The Emperor has been expecting you. Luke: I know, father. Vader: So, you have accepted the truth. Luke: I've accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father. Vader: THAT NAME, no longer has any meaning for me. Luke: It is the name of your true self you've only forgotten. I know there's a good in you. The Emperor hasn't driven it from you fully. That was why you couldn't destroy me, and that's why you won't bring me to your Emperor now. Vader: (ignites Luke's lightsaber) I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete. (deactivated lightsaber) Indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has forseen. Luke: Come with me. Vader: Obi Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the dark side. I must obey my master. Luke: I will not turn and you'll be forced to kill me. Vader: If that is your destiny..... Luke: Search your feelings, father. You can't do this. I feel the conflict within you, let go of your hate! Vader: It is too late for me, son. (orders the stormtroopers to escort Luke) The Emperor will show you the true nature of the Force. HE is your master now. Luke: Then my father is truly dead.
I dont think he was actually there when they shot the scene, so they would have had to tell whoever read the line during filming. Then more of the cast and crew would have known too
I was bout to say we already knew this because of the revenge of the sith but I forgot the movies with Luke in’em came out before the others they switched the Timeline
I guess my only concern to the legitimacy of this is in the scene a few mins later in the movie after Luke is rescued, he’s laying in the bunk and Vader calls to him thru the Force and Luke responds “father?”… was this done later, or what?
Itd be a cool what-if concept. Like, darth vader is still a fallen student of obi-wan, but either because of the dark side or some other reason, obi-wan kills lukes father and blames it on vader
This isnt the story that they tell in Empire of Dreams. Prowse said the line. Nobody knew. It was only revealed when James Earl Jones recorded the actual line. Mark Hamill wasnt told until he says the line "Father" on the Falcon and he still wasnt clear on why.
If everyone got a fake script except for Mark Hamill, then what was Mark's script? Was it just a blank space, I don't get the reasoning for this whatsoever.
Imagine if Obi-Wan killing Luke's father ACTUALLY was the twist. 🤔
As Vader says,”You did not kill Anakin Skywalker… I did.”
In a way, he did…
From a certain point of view, obi wan did kill Anakin. If he dident cut off his limbs, Vader woudent need his painful armour, so he woudent be as much powerful as he was as Vader in his suit, so there would be more Anakin alive in Vader. No hate on obi wan by the way
It kind of was
He DID killed his father basically, Anakin dying and Vader coming to life.😊
Harrison Ford was like "Hey kid you didn't f*cking tell me that"😂
Luke: Sorry, Han.
He was indeed XD
“I know it, George knows it, and if it leaks, we know it was you”
Mark: Is this real?
George: search your feelings, you know this to be true.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
“Not again… Obi-wan’s gonna kill me”
Underrates
I think it’s fair to assume James Earl Jones also knew lol
I think it was Lucas, Hamill, Jones, and most of the writing staff who knew. David Prowse, Vader's suit actor, apparently said that he wishes he was told in advance because he would've used different body language for the reveal if he knew what he was actually supposed to be saying.
@@Jadefire1010 "no he did not tell you the truth.... He killed your father" *procedes to hug luke like a father*
Man, George sure surprised not only the people who saw it in theaters but his cast and crew.
In some interview with Mark Hamill he talks about this and tells Harrison Ford's reaction which was, "Hey kid, you didn't f*cking tell me that."
George: hay Mark, Vader's your father actually, and the rest of the cast doesn't know yet.
Mark: no, that's not true! That's impossible!
Now that's storytelling right there
Harrison Ford: Kid, you never f**kin told me that!
Anakin's defeat on Mustafar was, in effect, the "death" of Anakin Skywalker and the "birth" of Darth Vader.
So what was told to Luke was true... From a certain point of view.
Anakin be lying to avoid parental responsibility
Bro ain't spending his hard earned credits on child support 😂
Obi wan kinda did kill his father in a way
*from a certain point of view
"you didn't kill Anakin, I did"
-Darth Vader
he thought he did. if i left a guy sitting in hot coals, and on fire without limbs, i would assume he dead
@@thefightoffaith*Anakin Skywalker
Not killed, Barbequed
Mark Hamill used the I am Your Father line in the 'Trivkerers' episode of The Flash
I saw an interview with Mark Hamil where he said he knew about it for a year and a half. The director told Mark and told him that only the director, George Lucas and Mark knew. He was also told if it leaked the director and George would know it was Mark.
Happy New Year’s everyone
Well, Obi-Wan did kill his father....
"From a certain point of view"
Yeah, Anakin’s overconfidence.
And then there is that one person walking out of the theater saying that Darth Vader was Luke's father
"Obi-Wan killed your father...
... and he also took your father's arms and legs."
Never knew that, crazy.
What a twist.
And in the theatre when that scene played, Ford leaned over to Hamil and said, "you didn't F-ing tell me that!"
If it was me, the only one that would’ve known the twist before the scene was shot should’ve been the guy that was voicing Darth Vader.
George is a genius
Bro really said your master killed my former self, but I am still your father
"Luke, I am your father".
Well Obi Wan DID ALMOST killed Luke's father
I believe him, Proust and Jones all knew according to their versions of the story.
People knew this. Mark Hamil has discussed it in interviews before. He actually did get the fake script first.
Happy new year!🎉
Vader: The Emperor has been expecting you.
Luke: I know, father.

He should've told James Earl Jones first and not Mark so Mark's reaction was real
I dont think he was actually there when they shot the scene, so they would have had to tell whoever read the line during filming. Then more of the cast and crew would have known too
James Earl Jones would obviously know, too.
didnt the voice actor of vader also know the twist
Yep, but he wasn't on set that day! Jones just did the voice-over after shooting
I was bout to say we already knew this because of the revenge of the sith but I forgot the movies with Luke in’em came out before the others they switched the Timeline
Imagine if George Lucas didn't say it to Mark, but only to darth vader so the scream NOOOOO would be real
I guess my only concern to the legitimacy of this is in the scene a few mins later in the movie after Luke is rescued, he’s laying in the bunk and Vader calls to him thru the Force and Luke responds “father?”… was this done later, or what?
I believe a cut was called by someone because they thought the line was botched.
Yes, known for years. I admit it, I'm a total Star Wars geek. 😊
Itd be a cool what-if concept. Like, darth vader is still a fallen student of obi-wan, but either because of the dark side or some other reason, obi-wan kills lukes father and blames it on vader
George Lucas, Mark Hamill *AND* James Earl Jones (Since he was the Voice Actor for Vader)
Literally everyone knows this, and it was the director, Irving Kirschner who told Mark, not George.
This isnt the story that they tell in Empire of Dreams.
Prowse said the line. Nobody knew. It was only revealed when James Earl Jones recorded the actual line.
Mark Hamill wasnt told until he says the line "Father" on the Falcon and he still wasnt clear on why.
Best star wars movie
Mark Hamilton does a really good impression of Harrison Ford
Surely James Earl Jones and David Prowse must've been told as well? Otherwise, how did JEJ deliver the line; and who was Mark saying the line to lol?
Well, Obi-Wan was close to killing Anakin... so it's not a complete lie? 🤷♂️
There's actually some truth to the fake line as Obi-Wan actually did leave Anakin on Mustafar to die
Hmm so all the crew and camera man and those didnt see nothing while filming it ????😂😂😂😂😂
My fav Luke is darth Luke (Lego special)
Did the Vader Actor That Played In This Scene knew about that?
Even the fake line was true, from a certain point of view.
why does he say that george told mark moments before the filming the actual scene but THEN said he had to wait a year? makes no sense 😕
They should have kept them from watching the film so they would find other in return of the Jedi
Both are true from a certain point of view
Well in Vader's point of view obi wan did kill anakin so it makes sense
Yet people keep say its not what he is saying
Wait but then what about James Earl Jones did he get told too because of not how could he have said it
Eh i mean george predicted the prequels since technically if you think about obi wan kinda did since he chopped of his legs ans arms
🤓👆: Erm actually the director told Mark and he kept it for a year and a half
Why does George look like kanan jarruis
I did know 😂
Yes, everyone knows that.
George Lucas is wonderful and amazing human
Everybody knows that
It's actually pronouncing no, I am your father
Yes I did.
If everyone got a fake script except for Mark Hamill, then what was Mark's script? Was it just a blank space, I don't get the reasoning for this whatsoever.
I think he got the fake script as well but mark was then told the plan moments before they shot the scene.
I mean he kind of did
Who says??
Im sud
