- Arcanum is a bloody great RPG of the early 2000s, made by Troika Games! The same people who made Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines!
Arcanum takes all the elements from the classic Fallout games and takes it up to eleven with a lot of interesting new systems like craftings, class system, and their quite unique approach to Technology and Magic!
It's not a perfect game by any stretch, it's a bit rough in places and while the world is amazing it does kinda fall off towards the end sadly but I won't say anything else on that.
I hope you'll enjoy this playthrough, I have nothing but love for Arcanum and it's easily one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

Arcanum can be bought off either Steam or GoG for a decent price with GoGs being a little bit cheaper.
This playthrough is using the GoG version, far as I can tell there is little to no difference between the two although I do prefer the GoG one.

Keep in mind: While the VTM: Bloodlines on GoG usually has the unofficial patch on, the same is NOT applied to Arcanum. YOU WILL NEED TO INSTALL THE UNOFFICIAL PATCH YOURSELF.

[Mods and Patches]
This playthrough is using the Unofficial patch and + HQ improvements by Terra Arcanum, and it has to be said it's bloody needed!
Troika games, while great, do need a lot of work afterwards in order to fix various problems and instabilities, Arcanum is no different sadly.
The link and list below are the mods I've used for this playthough, it's faffy and will be a pain to install but I assure you it makes the game a lot friendlier to play.

Was looking for an Arcanum lp and i'm pretty sure I found the best one for me. I dislike so much how some gamers rush through detailed rpgs so this is perfect for me. Appreciate the thorough explaining also. Pretty excited to watch the whole series and will check out what other games you have covered.

This game holds a special place in my heart. Almost 2 decades ago since I played this game during the golden age of my childhood. I still play it to this day from time to time.
I will likely have it installed well after this playthrough is done, not because of how faffy the patches were to sort out, but ultimately because I just enjoy playing this so much! Feels fresh each time which is more than most RPGs today can say.

@@Medivak794 Only once as a mage character. Did it take you much thought in making a tech build. I always saw Tech as needlessly more complex than magic.
@@nicholashannah6691 I won't lie: It can be a real pain. Magic runs in this game always seems like a more traditional RPG experience if you get me?
While Technology builds just flip that completely upside down to the point of near silliness.
Where all spells can be learned from the level up menu, Tech has to use Schematics in pretty much everything, doesn't seem so bad right? As there are a good number of Schematics that can be accessed in disciplines same as spells! Well that's just the tip of the steamy iceberg.
In order to get the best out of tech, you have to find Schematics that essentially "mix" two disciplines together, and there are a lot of crazy combinations Arcanum gives you.
However you gotta hunt for them, Tech stores and some weapon shops (Tarant is one of the best places to find them) sell them randomly, sometimes you have to keep resetting the stores by waiting a day and trying again.
In fact I can tell you on a previous run of this, I was after a schematic (that I'll be getting again ughhh) that REFUSED to spawn, it took bloody ages for it to appear. Then I had to keep resetting the stores so I could get the supplies to make said schematic!
But to answer your question (and sorry for the long post haha) Tech builds do take a fair bit of thought and time to get anything out of it, but I can say if you do put work in for tech, it doesn't disappoint. especially with Companions.
@@Medivak794 No need to apologize for the long posts. I think I will try a tech build with what you told me! Should I do a melee or a gunslinger for my first tech build?
If you want to try something a bit new, I'd go with gunslinger! You're usually safe out the fight, especially if you use Sogg Mead Mug as a companion to take the hits.
Since you'd only need to level Perception and Firearms to get the best out of your guns, it leaves plenty of points for leveling disciplines and other skills that you want.
Just a heads up, Tech builds can be super expensive especially when bullets are involved. If you wanna save your coin purse some heartache, there is a bullet schematic that appears semi regularly in tech and gun stores.
You'll need 1 point in the Explosives discipline, some charcoal, (which you can find in bins in every major town) and saltpeter, (appears in general stores very cheaply) gives you around 20 bullets each time you craft!
If you want the strongest build in the game you need to play a halfling using the Krull chakram Azram's Star. Second best is a looking glass rifle you can steal early, no need to craft it.
Can easily clear entire screens with rapid clicks on each enemy. Melee is just low damage all around. People also think areas are quest locked, when in actuality you can manually travel anywhere. The easiest bypass is heading south from the crash site along the mountains to use gorgoth pass to reach Caladon and Roseborough early.
Someone who plays in Real Time mode? I thought they were a myth!
I like it, but I can totally see why people use the Turn Based Mode instead. I prefer Real Time with pause generally? it's generally more chaotic and interesting!

I don't really prefer FPS over anything else and actually I find the isometric view the most attractive view of all times also I was disappointed when Bethesda went FPS with the Fallout franchise and I still think the isometric fallout is superior to the first person fallout BUT... This game should go FPS/TPS, not just because I think the fight system is terrible in Arcanum but because it would look and feel extremelly cool to walk around in this world.
