- Village leaders in suburban Arlington Heights shared reactions to the Chicago Bears’ recent announcement that the team is focusing on building a new stadium along the lakefront.
NBC Chicago’s Natalie Martinez reports.
Arlington Heights fumbled a gigantic bag. It's what happens when you get greedy
How can you be on the bear side, here?
Seems like the village saw the Bears as an opportunity for a windfall in tax revenue so they got greedy.
Arlington Heights really shat the bed on this deal.
As a former AH resident, I am confused. I always dealt with the Cook County Assessor's office for property tax issues.
Turn the horse track into a PARK &
NO TAXES,
LOL like that’s going to happen
No thanks we will stay by the lake downtown. Y’all blew it.
No they didn’t the Bears suck and they should be focused on building a winning team 1st and a new stadium 2nd. Shows you where their priorities lye.
Sounds like there giving a good push to build in the city.
There has been an undercurrent by well connected people that the Bears would never leave Chicago. Suddenly, the issue starts to blossom. A reality that no one is discussing is the exact opposite of what most people say. That is, Kevin Warren is engaging in a game of poker with Chicago, not Arlington Heights. So Chicago is first choice and Arlignton Heights is the fall back position. Look how far Chicago has come since the move was announced. The property in Arlington Heights can be sold. Even if the Bears give it away, Chicago may well dwarf the $200 million dollar purchase in enticements.
This is what I think too. I prefer to have a dome downtown with more parking tailgate area.
They only bought the property to use as leverage against the city
Too late now Arlington Heights.... THE BEARS ARE STAYING HOME! #BEARDOWN
Why would the public be on the hook for this? 😂😂😂
Too late
In Arlington the stadium (only) would be built 100 percent with private funds. They're blowing a big opportunity and the mayor knows it over there.
If the Arlington school system is underfunded, that's not the Bears problem. Buy some lottery tickets.
Arlington is a pretty expensive place to live. Not sure why school will be underfunded
@@rhdtv2002 Not to mention that living there in the first place is a choice. But the same goes for the Bears.
Fair would be to allow them to pay at the 10% commercial vacant property rate for land valued around $80 M. I think they would accept paying 8-9 million per year until a dome stadium is built. Seems fair under the circumstances. The increased revenue after the stadium starts generating revenue will help offset the upfront infrastructure investments needed for an entertainment district around the stadium and roads, bridges, water improvements, etc. The Metra and parking structures are already in place. Bears agreed to fund the ENTIRE cost of building the dome stadium. Seems like a great deal.
That seems completely reasonable. Wasn't the issue that the village tried to make an argument for collecting taxes on the property as if the stadium was already complete? That didn't make a bit of sense except to say "go away, we don't want you here"
They understand that if the bears pull out they get nothing right?
Well not really. It will have a future use.
@@Runboyrun89 Except if, for example, the property is developed for homes, that means more kids and more expenses for the school districts. Commercial development would have far fewer homes and far more revenues to tax. That's why so many communities that have great schools also have an alternative source of revenue in addition to home taxes.
I wonder how much tax revenue were they collecting before the Bears bought the track??? They played their hand and they lost! Good job AH you tricked yourself out of 10’s of millions of dollars.
$3mil a year for the racetrack
@@TaylorM-dh3uu so they went from $3M to $13M??? Yeah they thought they had one.
hahaha yeah and the fact that its "vacant land" they tax at 10% of 25% @@MrGeeMoney1983
Nice going, Arlington Heights. Sticking it to Bears to fund your school district drove them back to the lakefront.
Oh boy new taxes
They had 2 years but I believe that AH is the better location for comfort in that the neighborhood is way better than the lake front and they will have better parking at this location.
if the bears pass on arlington then the town needs to turn it into a big truck stop fuel and parking area. the amount of money coming in and out would be insane and finally a place for trucks to park in chicago
Tax payers have to pay for the stadium then have to pay crazy prices for tickets and wont see any of the profits from the stadium?! What a seriously corrupt situation 😂😂
AH tax payers wouldnt pay a dime...
Basically, someone got yelled at for the Chicago location news last week.
Arlington Heights gonna mess around and end up having affordable housing and a migrant shelter built on that land if they keep being greedy
Maybe have them win something before getting a new stadium. And a dome?
Arlington Heights blew an opportunity to put their city on the map
they already have guitar center
So disappointed in Arlington heights. We lost horse racing and now they made it such a bad deal for the bears, the stadium may only happen in Chicago.
Seems you should do whatever is necessary to get the stadium built. It will be such a boost to the economy, they should be doing everything possible to get it done.
I think the White Sox should get the Soldier Field property for their new stadium after the Bears move....
The white Sox don’t deserve a new stadium. Not in Chicago at least.
Arlington Heights should go in a new direction and visit the Cowboys star complex in Frisco Texas.
Their are more ways to make money than a big empty stadium 90% of the time.
That was exactly what the Bears were planning to do with that land. Arlington Heights got greedy and wanted them to pay higher rates than previous horse track and the neighboring properties. These morons are also completely ignoring the additional revenue the tourism would generate for local businesses. What could have become a must-see destination for anyone coming to the Chicago area, will now become condos or a strip mall that no one will ever care about.
Modern stadiums are multi-use and rarely “sit empty”
@crewdawg16 more than you can possibly imagine
@crewdawg16 ATT stadium in Arlington Texas 40 to 50 nights. Shitty hotels and no great places to eat.
Jerry's World in Frisco
COWBOY hall of fame.
Cowboys corporate office.
Texas sports medicine building.
4 world class hotels.
15 restaurants
1000 apartment condo units
Cowboys practice facility
Cowboys old and active players hanging around for pictures and autographs
20k practice facility
20k concert hall.
20k high-school sports games 2 games back to back.
Softball tournaments
Trade shows
This property is used over 300 days a year.
@crewdawg16 Minneapolis U.S. Bank stadium beautiful
10 football games and 6 concerts 65,000 seats. That's a lot of labor and security. Plus for concerts it's most likely 30K. I know stadiums. Sometimes smaller is just way more lucrative.
City hall meeting- “sure bring the bears, but I’m not paying for it, I’m a packers fan”
Classic group of fools… put up roadblocks then act surprised when the driver finds an alternate route… I seem to remember hearing this would be built with private funds.. WTF is the problem? Seems like a tax boon but they still put up roadblocks…
The lady in pink single? #priorities
I see you enjoy your women nicely marbled.
@@a.barker7792 Normal. (Yes, it doesn't exist anymore.)
Who is paying for that!!!!!
Lol, still doubling down on trying to fleece the Bears. The Bears said C-Ya
Seems to me those bargaining tactics are working.
So then can get bears a stadium . But not fix roads .I see
They should build the spring training facility in Arlington and keep Stadium in City. Problem solved!
Bears need to focus on building a winning team before they think about a new stadium. This team isn’t going nowhere.
Not a chance.. bears have already picked a lakefront-spot
No we haven't we're player chess there playing checkers we're going to Arlington
Yea a spot that they don’t own LOL
ha, they blinked. Game over.
Dropped the bag
Hahaha... Arlington heights wanted to "fleece" the Bears - and the Bears called their Bluff. Tough !!!!, Bye, Bye tax revenue.
Kevin Warren can now fleece them like Pittsburgh did Chicago twice
Makes me sick that people think Arlington Heights should just give the bears whatever they want. Taxpayers should not be footing most of the bill for a billionaires new stadium. You can have tax incentives but the city should also benefit. The bears don’t want to stay in Chicago, they’d much rather have the space available in Arlington Heights and are calling the Bears bluff.
Lol... you keep thinking that. The only reason they bought the track was to put leverage on the city to build them a new stadium and it's working. They don't want to move to the burbs and never will
Buying the racetrack gives the Bears no leverage 😂 it gives all the leverage to the city because now the Bears have already made a huge investment in the property. There is no large piece of land available in Chicago. In Arlington Heights they had plans to build a complex of hotels, restaurants, etc that bring in new and increased revenue.
Bears have zero intention in moving to Arlington Heights. They only bought the property to use as leverage against the city to build them a new stadium.
That’s the dumbest shit I have heard yea like let’s spend $200 million on a property just to use it as a leverage against Chicago. Get real
Even if that was true I would assume the bears would break up the land and sell it piece by piece. Plus gain more than the 200 million they spent.
This is typical Bears using two entities to get what they want
Another new stadium for da Bears. With its rich losing tradition, i think the old Soldier Field will do just fine!
They should be begging the bears to be there. Bears should stay in CHI!
Just build a big jail in Arlington
We lied and tried to cheat the Bears organization before....but now you can trust us.
Just wait until the Bears build acres of affordable housing in Arlington Heights.
No new taxes to benefit billionaires!!!!
Naperville can afford the taxes.
They loaded over there....😂🤣
Screw Arlington Heights! They tried to get greedy and over tax the Bears. They overplayed their hand, not interested.
yeah they want the big 💰of money 🤑
They are going to end up with nothing and this will be a huge mistake for them 20yrs from now. The village will definitely make the money they need from the bears being there. It's Arlington Hights, it's not like it's anything else there being in the kind of money the bears will.
No thanks'- Bears belong in Chicago....
Arlington would be so much better. Bears pay the city of Chicago too much. They don’t have enough parking so it’s a pain in the butt getting in. Big bears L
Screw Arlington Heights they overplayed their hand and blew it.
Arlington heights fumbled this harder than justin fields did against the broncos
Ears aren't leaving Chicago. Arlington and their school district tumbles and lost a massive revenue stream.
If the taxpayers has to fund for the stadiums do they own the the bears I thought the bears were leaving Chicago tax people who has to pay for the taxes
This is the location they own. The other is in Chicago own by City of Chicago
@@rhdtv2002 I like to know how that works play somewhere else but they team owns property
Look at they greedy ass scrambling
So they want to put a new tax for the people to build a stadium for the Chicago bears, I would vote no why should the taxpayers pay for it
That's not at all what this video is about. Once the Bears bought the land and demolished the old track the county jacked up the property taxes on said land. The Bears balked and now the city is trying to appease/justify that decision. Personally hope the Bears continue to tell AH to pound sand.
It's the franchise who is greedy. They've always been about money over winning or doing what's best for the fans.
Kevin Warren is engaging in a game of poker with Arlington Heights, bluffing about plans to construct a stadium in Chicago. The strategy appears to be gaining traction. Let's aim to finalize the deal in Arlington Heights; it's more accessible than downtown.
What? Arlington Heights is not more accessible than Soldier Field. Four major highways lead directly to the stadium, Rte 90/94 from the north, Rte 290, Rte 55, and Rte 90/94 from the south. I used to live next to the racetrack when they still had the races. That area would get congested when hardly anyone was in there. Plus, you can’t beat the atmosphere of Chicago’s lakefront and its surrounding architecture. Arlington Heights is Zzzzz…..
@@iap6647The Bears have secured over 300 acres in Arlington Heights for constructing multiple buildings, hotels, and a stadium. They anticipate greater profitability in Arlington Heights compared to Chicago. While there are multiple highways leading to their current stadium, there isn't sufficient acreage to develop the expansive Bears experience akin to Disneyland in Chicago. Ultimately, after all the deliberation, the decision will likely favor building in Arlington Heights.
For who??? Not residents of Chicago!
wow. Allison. most beautiful woman alive. wish some how I could marry her. I grew up in glenview ill. been watching her every day since the 90's. now I live in Joshua tree ca. my life dream is to win very big in the lottery and ask Allison if we can date. not sure if she is still married. keep reading my bible. God knows what I want thru prayer.
😂😂😂😂😂
Why can't billionaires pay their fair share? Why do taxpayers always have to prop up these freeloaders?
Chicago should fix its crime before they make a new stadium
They lose a horse track and now bears so now there’s going be a big empty lot worth nothing
Hopefully, they will move to Arlington Heights. Chicago is a shit hole.
exactly
Way to pull a 4th quarter bears drive Arlington 😂
Bears in a domed stadium?
Say it ain't so.
3 of the 4 teams in the NFC North would be indoors.
As a old school fan, this is disappointing.
Much respect to Green Bay for not being soft.
If building a stadium is not a significant net positive for AH, screw the Bears. I wouldn’t vote to pay for a private stadium that draws from, rather than contributes to, the community…
Ill say this; as a lifelong Bears fan and lifelong alcoholic, stumbling out of Soldier Field and getting home safely is not too hard. There's so much public transit and taxis nearby the lakefront that I have gotten home from Bears games when I probably shouldn't have been going anywhere but a hospital. Arlington Heights has nearly no public transit, expect DUIs to RAPIDLY increase if we move away from the Lakefront, after all this is Chicagoland drinking were talking about.
Nope you guys got greedy and lost
🤢🤮 I’m still angry drunk from McHonkeys moving on from Justin.
Arlington heights full of greedy people.
You'd rather have that land sit vacant and earn no tax revenue whatsoever than compromising?🤡
Bears are trash a new stadium won't change things
Uh-huh!!! Illinois politics so full of it!
But what Bears did to JF1, sickens me more.
Packers still need to approve an ownership of their new home.
Give up on the Bears, Arlington Heights. Daddy Pritzker has got big plans for that land.
