@@rexyrex00 100%. I used to play for my school, and seeing a real sized goal in real life made me realise how everyone underestimates how massive they are.
From a football (soccer) fan here in the US..stopping the ball at the goal mouth isn't a GK's only job. They also run the defense. You know how in American Football, sometimes you see one of the linebackers or defensive backs look over the offense - and then start pointing around "You, take him" on the left.."You, take him" on the right? It's kind of like that. But a lot faster! If you watch a whole game, you'll probably see a GK chew out the defensive backs for letting the offense get so close in the first place. I only ever played "pickup" games in the park, and still recall my GK saying, "HowTF did you let that guy get that far?!? I told you where they were attacking from!" And yeah, I love those 'double saves'. Pure athleticism. GKs are a breed apart. If you want to see an American do this stuff, look up Tim Howard. EDIT: Y'all might already know this, but a GK's jersey is a different color so that the ref can tell it's the player that can use their hands. But only inside the big box. Outside of it, they have to use feet just like everybody else.
I think another thing to note is that it’s usually cold most of the season in Europe especially. With outfield players, their bodies heat as they run more but goalies have to brace the cold, all alone in that box. And if you’re a goalie on the end of the field where the opponents supporters are, you get all sorts of abuse yelled at you. They say, you gotta be a little crazy to wanna be a goalie.
to be a goalkeeper you have to be a little crazy xD I've been playing as a goalkeeper (amateur,in club or with friends) for almost 20 years, believe me it's not just about jumps, the ball is hard and flies at high speed, hits in the stomach, head, thigh, b... s, they are not rare ... it really, really hurts , especialy in smaler version futsball or know as 5v5 :)
@@noobmaster13583 Peaks vs longevity for those curious. Buffon started in 95 and was still playing until last year. He was the best goalkeeper in the world for plenty of years as well. But his peaks appear a bit lower than some others have reached.
Goalkeeper is the most difficult position on the field. You can make 15 great saves, the one slip up, thats the story. A attacker can't score 4 games, they keep getting chance to play. Goalies don't get to 4 bad games, after 2 youre out. For ever. Its not easy to have nothing to do, but to keep the focus on. From midfield the ball can come like a rocket. Or it may not. You can not have any fear, or doubt. Once you come out the box, you run for your life. Expectv anything from any where. Keep it out with your hands, feet, face, your D, just keep it out. Keep in mind that there is only so much you can do. There are 10 others responsble for keeping the ball away. I am just the last chance. Just like I am the first attacker for them. To see opponents running away to celebrate, while I keep out that ball last second, greatest of all. On a good day, they will get frustrated, and shoot from further and further away. I love it, Goalie.
All those saves were from recent times...try look for vintage goalkeeper save..the scorpion 🦂 kick save is probably the best save in history and classic matches from the 60s.
9:45 Ben Foster isn't the greatest but he's a legend, he went out of retirement to help a non-league club get promoted to professionnal football, he even made some gopro footage that he put on his youtube chanel
What we play Football on is called a Football Pitch, a Field is what it farmer grows wheat, barley, corn, potatoes and other produce in. If a team scores a goal and the other team has not then we call that 1-0 ( 1- NILL), 2- 0 ( 2 - NILL) etc. Actually it's defenders that have the hardest job as I know as I played for Football teams here in my home country of England, My position on the pitch was Left Back and you have to tackle, defend and protect both the goal and the goalkeeper. You have to be strong, fast and tough to be as a defender plus you have to read the game in your mind to see where the next attacking play could come from so you have to either be in that position or ready to stop it. It's way harder to save it from a close range you'll need crazy reflexes for that and u have to keep in mind the goal is 24ft wide
Agree, to this day Buffon's save vs Paraguay is one of the best I saw in my lifetime...or the best.
until people try play as a goalkeeper, they will never know what its like to have a ball coming at you as fast as they do
@@azment8666 and when u see the goal in front of u, Then you'll respect the goalies that shit is huge hahaha

if a goalie doesnt let any goals in for a match its called a clean sheet and the goalies treasure clean sheets
You would be surprised but Goal keepers get less injured than defenders, midfielders and strikers
