I hope they do a sequel and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have Eric Swarzinzki from the Preacher Boys Podcast in it!! He is a wealth of knowledge of how the IFB covers up abuse!!!
PLEASEEEEE do a season 2. I know there must have been a lot of things left on the cutting room floor as well as how the story develops in response to the documentary.
I consider myself Christian, haven't seen the documentary. Have watched alot of videos about the Duggars concerning the doc. I'm not offended, I feel it's an attack on abuse, that's a fight I support!!
I think Shiny Hppy People has shined a light on Christian Fundamentalism and I hope they do an episode on Focus on the Family so much, that’s what I grew up in during the 80’s and me and my brother are both STILL dealing with trauma in our late 40’s/early 50’s
Roberta, so well done! This documentary changed my life. It's still an understatement. The impact is so profound that I slipped into an autistic shutdown for about a week. I finally understand all the why's and how's of my life. I also finally understood that abuse can be dressed up as "nice" but it's still abuse.
Funny that Porgan are the only folks upset at how they were portrayed in SHP LOL they said only a small part of their interview was shown to make Christians look bad, I wonder how true that is 🤔
EMDR is magical, i can't recommend it enough. Telling my younger self that I'm here to protect her 😢🥰 It has been rough to be open about my life and have people get upset that I'm labeling certain things trauma. But the community I've found has been so incredible. My world has changed since finding out just how "not alone" I am.
It's odd how Amy Duggar King and her Mom are still so "out of touch" with what happened in Uncle Jim Bob's family and with Josh... even to this day. They didn't know that Josh was sent away 3 times for his "sins?" Fact- Jill and Jinger are close with Amy. From what I've heard they speak on a regular basis. Normal cousin stuff. They're the only ones who actually took a stand against the IBLP and how they were raised. What did Jill say when Any asked questions about her family, Josh and what happened??? Nothing??? Obviously, Jill and Jinger still can't open up about what happened to them growing up... not even to their cousin Amy! It's just weird... it's all so weird. I am convinced there are more victims of Josh Duggar in this family. Josh spent 18 plus years as the "leader" in the Duggar boys bedroom, where he had full physical access to many small boys at night. To me, it's not IF there are more victims... it's a question of which victim will speak out next??? Whp is Jim Bob threatening to "financially cut off" now for speaking the truth?
I hope to see more exposition of the abuses of the IBLP, the IFB, and associated groups. Especially hope to see Baptist reform schools exposed, like Hephzibah House in Indiana. Its owner, Ron Williams, may be gone, but the trauma of hundreds of girls who passed through his controlling and abusive facility lives on.
I didn't grow up in IBLP, but, my childhood was SO similar. We were homeschooled and taught so many of these things. The abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual) was all rampant. But, we were just a Baptist church, or for a time I went to a nondenominational church. It didn't matter what church we went too, or the teachers we listened to. They all taught these things. I discovered it didn't believe in any of it about 3 years ago, but I am still struggling to get over these things. As an adult, I keep finding ways my homeschooling was inadequate and that I am so uneducated about many things. It is isolating going through it, and coming out of it. I no longer talk to my family, besides my dad who has always been atheist. My friends don't understand what I am going through. Even my husband struggles to understand and be patient as I recover. The more I look, the more I see stories like mine. From all over, all religions, it's all over! I am loving all these kids growing up and saying no, this is not ok. I'm doing this different.
I really hope a second season happens with explores the mental and physical harms of sexuality and punishment, including a further exploration of "the prayer room" and the trauma of putting minors in solitary for weeks on end.
Def hope we get a sesson 2. I feel like this docu-series while incredibly informative and very well made is still just the tip of a very large iceberg. I want to applaud all the surviors and thank them as well for coming forward, that couldn't have been easy but I'm grateful for their strength And seeing Reverend Jen makes me such a proud Fundie Fridays subscriber, she's responsible for me realzing how deep all of this went.
I keep having to take breaks. It's so triggering. I have adoption trauma, religious trauma and I'm AuDHD. Plus I was in IBLP for a short time. I sorta ran away from home to get away. I have a long story.
It’s hard for me to see how it was negative against Christians as a whole- as an evangelical Christian I saw this as exposing extremism. I was raised Catholic but attend several Protestant denominations and have studied “what do I believe” for many years. I get my beliefs from the Bible- I don’t go to the Bible to see how it supports my ideas, I go to the Bible to learn what it says. People have such a tendency to try to find rules, and what to do to earn salvation, when the Bible says it is through faith.
They teach that 'this is what it means to be Christian, this is the only form of 'True Christianity', all of it is true or none of it is true so if you have those beliefs....
I agree, I don't think it was "against Christianity" at all. It was against harmful fundamentalist and extremist versions of Christianity. Those who feel attacked by it are those who believe that this is the only "true" Christianity. But in reality there are many different forms of Christianity, and many of the people who participated in the documentary identify as Christians. Personally as a progressive Christian with a liberal theology, what was offensive to me was seeing thousands of people defend abuse and sexism as God's will.
1. The comment in the beginning of SHP that said those kids were broken and not well behaved hit me hard as I was told many times that they forgot I was in the back seat of the car (out in service-preaching for JWs) when I was little, because I was so quiet. People were trying to give me a compliment, but I was broken. Also, I was forced to go out preaching since I was a baby (yes they take babies in the cars, maybe not to the doors, but I've seen most take them to the doors.) 2. IBLP could learn from the JWs on how to get rid of a leader. Tony Morris just had a day or two announcement on their website and it went away along with Tony. Then they deleted many of his videos. JWs say "oh, he must have gotten sick". We still don't know why, but wonder about the PA grand jury investigation among other guesses. We apostates also don't even know where he is!
ALEX HARRIS! I want to know what Bible teachers & pastors changed your mind and opened your heart! Please write a road map for those buried in evangelical fundamentalism to follow.
My heart feels so good that Jen was a part of this!!! She brings such an important piece to this conversation & she is truly a champion for survivors of all types of abuse!
Please make more episodes containing information about the IBLP/ATI. We are so interested in the survivor stories and know they have more to tell the world. Please provide us with more knowledge on this subject and not just the Duggers but other Quiverfull families that have been on TV or connected to the Duggers. ie, the Bates, the Plaths, the Holts. We want more!
I really enjoyed the Interviews and agree wholeheartedly about the Joshua generation. Fortunately or unfortunately I’m related to or grew up around people groomed for doing whatever it takes to take over the country in the name of Jesus. I don’t understand and even as a child didn’t understand how people who read and studied Jesus would think this is what he wanted/wants. If more Christians followed the teachings of Christ the world would be a much better place.
I am really glad this is being exposed for what it is. So many people have been traumatized by this form of "Christianity". I put that in quotes because it's not Christianity, it's abuse. It's really sad that so many see this as an attack on Christianity, the attack came from Gothard, and people like him. They twist the teachings of Jesus so that they may profit. I'm pretty sure that's high on the list of "Don't you do that, EVER"
I wasn’t familiar with IBLP as a kid/teen (I never been homeschooled, nor did I subscribed to wearing long skirts.), but I can say that their influence is big. I would see people who aren’t familiar with IBLP and weren’t necessarily raised like the Duggars post their material such as the umbrella diagram.
I would love to see a follow-up series and would encourage/urge an effort be made to include voices and perspectives from members of ethnically/culturally diverse people. As a person who has existed at the crossroads of cultural and religious identities I think there is a lot of depth to explore there.
the way I see it with the Duggars, once the money was coming in, they're faith went out the door, and money was all that mattered, I mean when TLC didn't want to film the whole family anymore with the Josh fiasco, Jim Bob sold his 2 eldest daughters to the network and kept the money for himself instead.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. There are many women living in shame bc they had an abortion. I stayed in the church bc I could help, I’ve helped women escape an abusive husband. I’ve cleaned, cooked and babysat for new moms. Many have no where to go I was married at 16, and was in a Pentecostal Jesus freak movement. I was groomed at 12 churched 1972-90.
I visited a church where I heard the preacher threaten his wife FROM THE PULPIT over their crying baby. “You better quiet her down now before I take you both out for a lesson.” Those are the words he spoke and I’ll never forget it. That was *THE* moment I started questioning religion and the men in charge. 🤷🏻♀️
I'm hearing loud and clear that evil done in the name of Christianity is extremely dangerous. These cults and other false teachings claiming to be Christian are NOT Christian but certainly are religious. True Christianity is not a religion; it is walking in a relationship with Jesus; praying to Him and following His teachings and examples in life. The harm comes in when people believe this is what He teaches us and walking away from Him. He does not condone cruelty to children and had something to say about it in Mark 9:42: “If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea." This scripture has something to say about the fate of these evil practices being committed against little children.
It's interesting how these things overlap. It's almost as if cult leaders, multilevel marketers, and other sociopaths all read the same manual on how to find vulnerable people and manipulate them until they control every aspect of their lives. I follow Roberta's podcast, Life after MLM because of repeated bad experiences with MLMs. (And chiropractic, which is very MLM-y. Roberta, you really need to do a deep dive into chiropractic. I used to be a chiropractor, but I got out. I'm much happier earning an honest living.) I also follow Nippy and Sarah's podcast, A Little Bit Culty, because I grew up in a highly controlling church and religious school, which was IBLP-adjacent, and sometimes overlapped with IBLP. My parents had decided to take us kids out of the Christian school (I'm the oldest of six) and homeschool us with ATI, but my dad lost his job, and they couldn't afford it. Thank God! They did end up homeschooling the four youngest (I had just finished high school, and my sister was in her senior year) but with actual academic textbooks, not Gothard's fake "wisdom" books. Even at 18, having spent my whole life in the Fundamentalist bubble, when I compared Gothard's teachings with what Jesus said and did, I could see that they didn't match up.
Dear prime video, I have a question? Wonder when Pete the cat season 301 will premier? Hope it’s not cancelled from 2022. Sign, G max

Funny that Porgan are the only folks upset at how they were portrayed in SHP LOL they said only a small part of their interview was shown to make Christians look bad, I wonder how true that is 🤔
A producer did an ama and said that they cut it short because showing more would be "embarrassing" for Porgan 😂
If you worry that an interview is going to make Christians look bad, the problem isn't the interview.
Porgan are good at making things that aren’t about them.
EMDR is magical, i can't recommend it enough. Telling my younger self that I'm here to protect her 😢🥰

Ut oh Progan...some of the experts are religious. Maybe dont assume people aren't Christian when speaking up against abuse.
So good to see Jen!!!! This was an awesome interview and I'm so glad you included Jen.
"take mushrooms and touch some grass, girl" 😂 solid gold advice. I love all of this.

I meant I don’t see how people think it was negative against Christians as a whole.
A lot of people I interact with do think it was against Christianity as whole because their version of Christianity looks a lot like IBLP.
@@beyondallmeasure that makes sense
