Hi all, this utility and procedure is for DrayTek products. For other router brands please check with the manufacturer or Google + + the word "recovery" or sometimes the word "bricked". In some cases the DrayTek or any other TFTP utility may work. Other routers might be a bit more complicated. If your router is dead and out of warranty it's worth a try, but if it's still under warranty contact your manufacturer's Support as your first option.
@@rahimanck4186 If you have a DrayTek router and you're located in Australia please send an email to support@draytek.com.au for assistance. Otherwise you will need to contact DrayTek support in your country.
Thanks! While I don't own this router this video showed me how to get my computer to send a firmware update to a router that wouldn't assign itself an IP through ethernet! I thought my router was bricked! Thanks again!
thank for the video really helped me out with my tenda router whose firmware somehow got corrupted and only power LED was on and couldnt reset the router either

Hi.... What does "nfjrom" mean in D-Link DWR routers? Is it a bin file? I'm using Wireshark to see the recovery file it's requesting but I saw this message: "Read Request, File: nfjrom, Transfer type: octet".
Finally after years i managed to bring back my tenda w316r router back to life... I used usb to TTL adapter but now i realized after viewing putty screen that u ppl dont need "usb to ttl adapter" it just show whats going on inside ur router...now as i have seen it all i can help all of u guys to un brick ur routers too... Step 1. Set ur laptop or pc LAN ip manually to 192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.1 (use wire to connect to pc via lan cable to any yellow port on router). Step 2 open up the router un screw it...we need to short 2 pins so that we can interupt the boot sequence and prepare the router to force itself to CFE mode...so that it can ask for firmware... Do not short pins again n again it will permanently destroy the memory chip...(i will tell u later which pins to short). Step3 go to RUN on PC and send ping comand i.e. ( ping 192.168.1.1 -t ) without brackets keep the ping running... it will say time out... now press and hold the reset button and power the router keep it pressed...u hav to do it quickly its about 3 seconds...leave the reset button and wait 2 seconds then quickly short the pins for 1 second ( i tell u which pins) as u already running ping watch the ping screen...u have to wait until u get ping response let say 1 or 2 minuts then ping will return with positive data...now close ping window and..now its time to open browser and type 192.168.1.1 id admin pwd admin this will open broadcom CFE and let u upload firmware...brouse the firmware file (use this one .42 not .46) and press upload...its done wait for firmware update successfull measg and router will reboot itself and back to life... Pic link postimg.cc/pytBSxy0 this process can also work for other tenda routers... this will work for broadcom based router
I have a Netgear R6260 router which is not working right now since my firmware update was interrupted this morning (wifi firmware updates are not reliable), and now my router will not work. I have tried doing all these steps, including doing a tfp2.exe and tftpd64.exe firmware update. The tftpd64 process seemed to work as instructed, but my router still won't startup to only show the power icon is blinking. Got on the phone with Netgear and in the end they told me I should buy a new router. Any suggestions before I buy a new router? I really don't want to. Thanks :)
It sounds like it's a goner but sometimes you can get lucky if you turn the router on, wait for the lights to just start flashing then turn it off again before it boots all the way up. Do that several times in a row. You can also try the same while holding down the reset button as you power it on, then release it after the power light comes on. After you've done that a few times, try following the manufacturer's instructions to recover a bricked router again - kb.netgear.com/000059633/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-TFTP-client You could try that a few times but it's a long shot, and there's a point where it's easier and cheaper to admit defeat, turn it into a doorstop/paperweight/clay pigeon and buy a new router.

Brother my tenda router firmware file is in .bin format. I think that is the reason the firmware utility tool cant find the software file. Can you help me out?
This can happen if the firmware has not been successfully installed. This sometimes can be due to the windows firewall in your PC has blocked the uploading of the firmware file. Another reason can be that you have installed the .rst firmware and this has reset the router to factory defaults so the IP address you were using to access the router may not be valid any more.
While updating the firmware of my Netgear N150 router got stuck. Only the hotspot button is flashing. And I can't even connect my device with it. What would be the procedure for it?
See pinned comment above. It may not be recoverable but try Googling it and/or contacting Netgear. (FYI "N150" is a Wi-Fi standard. Can you try the latest version of the firmware upgrade utility which can be downloaded from: www.draytek.com.au/support/downloads/#utility Also DHCP may have stopped working in the router so you will need to manually assign an IP address to your PC (192.168.1.10) When in TFTP mode, the router IP address is 192.168.1.1 Check that you have disabled the firewall in your PC as this will interrupt the firmware upload

Hi Fred, There is a TFTP procedure for Linksys routers. See www.linksys.com/au/support-article?articleNum=133192. I'm not sure if it works on all routers though. You may need to contact Linksys support if it doesn't. A lot of routers aren't recoverable by end users if the firmware gets corrupted. In some cases there are hacks involving opening cases and putting jumpers on the main board but these methods (if available) will void warranty. If it's still under warranty you're better off going that way if the manufacturer's firmware recovery suggestions do not work.
The firmware upgrade utility can be downloaded from our web site:www.draytek.com.au/support/downloads/#utility Once you install the utility on your PC, start the application and enter the router IP address and firmware file in the page that appears. So need to connect to the router using original IP address.
