    Yay! I wanted to know the dimensions of the back of a Highlander to compare it to my Ford Escape.

    Really enjoyed this video. Making our bed similar to yours only the front lifts are split into two sides (right and left) back lifts one piece like yours. Small fridge in the footwell behind passenger seat and 2 (5 gal) water bottles in the footwell behind the drivers seat, bluetti between drivers and passengers seat.

    Love the extended back platform for extra space, thanks for sharing! I also built out a platform in my highlander and am headed west for August and September, looking forward to seeing your journey!! Good luck with the window coverings, those were my least favorite part!

      Thanks so much for the encouragement Laurel! That’s really awesome, which parts of the west do you plan on seeing? Haha yeah it’s already been a few weeks with figuring out the coverings, definitely moving slow with that 😂

    Don't forget to replace the car battery, or take the jump starter. Our highlander stopped in the middle of the city)))
    Bad thing that this car uses a lot of petrol, otherwise it's perfect.

    I’m thinking about doing a very similar build, your videos have been super helpful!
    Do you have all the exact measurements for the 9 supporting legs? I might just got to Lowe’s and have them cut the pieces based off what you’ve done here :p

    • @LucasMoore
      @LucasMoore 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks George! Unfortunately I don’t know the exact measurements mainly because they weren’t perfect on the first cut so we had to go back and cut just a little of a few of them to make them fit right and they are still a little wonky it seems like, but they hold up good. I would say to just cut them longer at first and take a little bit off as you go until they for good.

    Nice build, guys! I'm on iteration #3 of my SUV camper. Quick question, can you link the struts you used? I believe you used 22.5 and 35 lb. The ones you found seem to work well with the platform build vs. struts intended for auto-specific use. Thanks!

      @LucasMoore 2 роки тому

      Thank you appreciate that! Yes I’ll put the link below. They did work well, after we put the mattress topper on we ended up needing a little more power, so you just have to make sure you get the ones for right weight!

    You should post this on HOWA homesonwheelsalliance FB and UA-cam, and have Bob wells interview you. Cheaprvliving channel on UA-cam.
    I'm here because I have a 2006 highlander and I used to have a honda element. I hate that I cannot haul anything in the Highlander because it's full of useless seats.

      @LucasMoore 3 роки тому

      Wow that’s a cool idea, thanks so much for sharing that! Yeah the seats do kind of get in the way in the highlander, we did make a video that’s on my channel on how we took our seats out if you wanted to see that! Thanks again.

    Seemed like lot of work.
    On my Escape, the rear seat cushions come right out, and that lets the seat backs fold flat. Just so easy. But then the back is still a little short to lie down in.
    The Highlander just isn't made to get the back flat. That's too bad.

    The mid support and the back piece, can't both be 41-3/4" as shown in your diagram.... "Measure twice, cut once." Nice build though! Thanks for sharing.

    In hindsight I'm curious to know if you guys wish you built the platform above the tire level. There's some space being lost on the sides, but it looks like you guys purposefully kept it lower to have more headroom.

    • @gaming4hire
      @gaming4hire 3 роки тому +1

      Also if you guys haven't got a mattress yet, you can order a perfectly cut mattress here: custommattressmakers.com/ I myself am 6'2, ordered a 42"x74", and it fits perfectly between the two wheel cases. It's a little bigger than a twin, and smaller than a full.

    • @LucasMoore
      @LucasMoore 3 роки тому +1

      Hey George, thanks for the comment! Yeah that was kind of our thinking. Initially we thought about making it above the tires to get the most sleeping space, but then realized after we put the mattress on top that it would be very little head room for us so we tried to go in the middle to have decent room on the both sides. We’ll definitely update on how the space works for us in the future. Thanks for tip on the mattress! We ended up cutting a foam mattress topper to put in, so we’ll see how that works 🤞🏼
