      +SilverSupernova It'd be funnier if Blaine threw Pikachu in the volcano and Pikachu met Kazuya while he was down there and learned the Mishima style before they got out.

    Max, you have to keep in mind when you went online, you were facing not very good players. Once you get towards the top the reliance on the grab counter normal triangle goes down along with the yolo supers and such, and more competitive depth really starts to shine.

      +Jabberwockxeno This, this, this. I recommend watching the Early Access Finals for some high-level play. Also, don't pronounce things as solid facts on day one or two of a fighting game, Max. You should know better than that.

      +Zero 10.12 SFV deserves no more advertising from Max honestly. There hasn't been ANY kind of communication about what's happening with the March update. Capcom are handling this terribly.

    • @bio0link
      @bio0link 8 років тому

      A1phaz0ne Because communication always makes people happy. Just like how capcom communicated with the community telling them what was going to be in the game day 1.That sure stopped all the hate. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
      Seriously they need stop communicating with the community and just work on teh game the community doesn't know jack shit about anything other then there need for instant gratification.

      BioLink
      "Free update in March"
      We're now past the halfway point of March and there has been NO word of what's going on with this update.
      People like you are the worst. Companies need to communicate with their consumers. Keeping consumers in the dark is a good way to piss them off and show you don't give a fuck about them. I dare you to try and run a business of any kind with that attitude.

    • @bio0link
      @bio0link 8 років тому

      A1phaz0ne But communication always backfires.
      It did with release and always has for other company's. I like valves method no communication and simply just work on there projects. Also Its still march you will have a right to bitch and moan if its not released in march. I wont defend Capcom if the update comes in April. But as it stands still march.
      Gamers are a bunch of baboons and children, they will never be happy until they have all there toys.

    I haven't picked up this game yet, but as a pokemon fan one of the things I admire the most about it is the easter eggs hidden throughout. Like in the synergy burst moves, Blaziken's has 257 hits which is its categorization number in the National Pokedex, Gengar's hits 61 times which is the level that it learns the move Nightmare (rather fitting), and Machamp's is a 1000 hit combo that is a callback to the pokedex entries saying it can through a thousand punches in a couple of seconds. Good on you Pokken.

    Pokken is my first real fighting game after taking a few years off from them due to major amounts of frustration. This is finally my chance to learn a fighting game again and be a part of the FGC again.
    If I can give one bit of advice to anyone planning to play online is to PLEASE go out and get a Wii U Ethernet Adapter. They're maybe $10 on Amazon and you'll save yourself a world of hurt, because a terrible wired connection is still better than an amazing connection on WiFi.

  • @Adricgames
    @Adricgames 8 років тому +30

    I'm trying to figure out where people keep getting it in their heads that Pokken was made for the casual audience. Nobody ever said that. It was never implied. The game had two official tournaments before release that both used competitive rulesets (unlike Smash's invitational which had all items on Free-For-Alls and was a half-popularity contest), and a game with a stable online connection and proper online ranked modes (unlike Smash, which I'm comparing it to because they're both Wii U fighting games).
    The game is not being marketed as a casual game. Not even close.

    • @frustratedsquirrel
      @frustratedsquirrel 8 років тому +5

      +Adricgames the creators said in an interview that they wanted the game to be more accessible to a casual audience as opposed to say, Tekken. However they never said that they wanted to make the game less competitive, just accessible and less technical.

    • @GloomGaiGar
      @GloomGaiGar 8 років тому +1

      +Adricgames I think it having the Pokemon brand may have something to do with that. Yes, us savvy people know this is a serious fighting game but when you look at it on the surface, it does look like it would be marketed towards a casual or younger audience.
      TLDR: People are superficial.

      +icetrey92 In his defense there are going to be a crap ton of people playing this game that don't normally play fighting games. As much as I don't like the game, Pokken is going to have $100,000 in prize money pumped into it this year. From a twitch streaming/youtube numbers stand point it makes sense to play this longer than Skull Girls. Nothing against SG, but it's the reality of the situation.

    Do keep in mind the later you fight in the evening, the more likely you are to be paired up with people well outside the ideal zone for you to be paired up in. I've had no lag during daytime online play but later at night I do get odd pairings that cause problems like Spain, the West Coast (I'm on the East Coast), etc.

    3:00 MY MAIN ISSUE WITH THE GAME. I open a guy up and them with combos on top of combos They do a start mash a string and take off more. Also some grabs doing more damage than synergy bursts entirely.

  • @БорисЦветков-й6ь
    @БорисЦветков-й6ь 8 років тому +2

    The biggest issue of the game that Max completely ignored is the offline multiplayer . Because the game is in third person the offline mode is played by splitting the screen. That's a massive issue because that means the game has to render twice , and thus it has to drop it's frame rate to 30 instead of 60 fps.

    Blaziken has some really decent combos, with its schtick being High Risk High Reward (I think it might be the only one to take damage on certain attacks, especially if it misses.) Best tactic I've found with Blaziken is to use Cubone and Diglet as supports and spend a lot of time in the air. Seriously, the number of people online who outright refuse to jump is staggering.
    It is a shame that a lot of folks will focus on spamming in field mode, but I think that habbit will soon die out when folks realise it'll only get so far.

I searched a bit for one but couldn't find it and I could really use it because even 5 bar connections in SFV are running pretty badly for me sometimes (which, granted, might be due to the fact that I live in Germany and /NOBODY/ here plays fighters so pretty much every match is at least 300km away).

      +Baikou Popularity doesn't really matter to me, Blaziken just fits how I like to play this game and fighting games as a whole. dealing lots of damage and the ability to kill quickly. I do main falcon in smash after all

      Shizzy Ultimately, popularity doesn't matter to me either, I'm just saying the character I decide to play feels more satisfying and fun to play when he turns out to be one of the lesser chosen chars. I chose to play with Blaziken before the game even came out. I'm a pyromaniac, and I love his play style. But if it's not many Blaziken's out there, then I hope it stays that way. :)

    So I have to throw in my experience with the netcode of this game so far. I live in Sweden and I have a 1000mb up/down connection, I have played around 50 games online and I have had 1 or maybe 2 matches where it felt a bit delayed, the other ones have felt like offline play, I've played through the whole story mode and 99% of my games felt like that. I'm hugely impressed by this game's netcode from my point of view, Smash 4 sucked for me, a lot of laggy matches so I was glad that this game's netcode was godlike.. Now that I think about it, I've had better netplay in this game than SFV so far.

    I'm glad you gave it a fair shake. At first in the stream you seemed to stumble over the whole "Pokémon really" thing. Even if you had been overwhelmingly negative I'm glad you got over that hurdle and can see it on its own, because I feel like a lot of people aren't going to do that, love or hate.

    Great to see that the matchmaking is good in terms of finding opponents. I've actually been kinda turned off of SFV abit due to the downtime between matches. I do good in a match for once, I'm amped to keep going, and then I have to wait a good minute or more it feels sometimes to jump into a new match.

    That's interesting that you were having issues with online. I've played at least 200 online matches and maybe 10 of those had noticeable delay. Kinda sucks that those issues left a bitter taste in your mouth because I think this game is amazing. If you have a smooth time online and are willing to put in time to learn the game (and there is a decent amount to learn), it's a blast.

    I feel the same way Max, looking at the roster I don't really see anyone on the roster that I'd love to play. I wish Hitmonlee were in the game, same for Scyther, but then again Blaziken and Garchomp sort of fill those spots already.

    Maybe it's because I've played a lot of "Dissidia" but I don't see it being at all similar to "Pokken Tournament" on the bases of them being arena fighters. Maximilian brought it up a bunch of times but I just don't see it to be honest.

    I saw the stream. Max didn't seem too happy because cool combos are essentially difficult to come by. I play Sceptile. I can only get one full combo off in dual phase before it changes back to field phase. You kind of have to learn to adjust to both phases and know what type of attacks changes the phases and prepare for when they connect and if you don't want to switch phase, you'll have to refrain from using certain moves. Example, as Sceptile I have to refrain from using leaf blade (takes a couple of them) and the izuna drop (which is an instant phase shift). Also multiple consecutive hits on the opponent will change the phase. I've tried Sceptile's dash cancel combos and it can only go for so long before a light attack knocks them out of dual phase. Sceptile isn't particularly great at field phase compared to the others, so like that you'll want to be in certain phases for certain pokemons.

    Max, during the stream, you repeatedly mentioned that you knew how online play "worked," and how you could easily win matches against characters that didn't have good projectiles or lots of super armour. I'd like to see you continue streaming online matches so you can use that knowledge to move your way up the ranks and find higher levels of play. I'd also like to see you learn how to conquer those attacks you had trouble with, and grow as a player. After watching a variety of matches, I have developed a hypothesis stating that maximizing damage in Duel Phase involves cautious, well-timed play and very short, non-damaging combos. This allows for more overall damage as a Phase Shift takes longer to occur. It can also allow for speedy rushdown tactics coupled with good reads to quickly annihilate an opponent's life bar. Blaziken may be at it's best as a mid-range mix-up character, where it is out of the range of counters, grabs, and light attacks, but close enough to discourage projectiles. Remember, you're not playing SFII, III, or IV Ken. You probably need to take a Nash-like approach. I really want to see you play more Pokken, Max, as I believe that there is much more tech to unearth. Research some strategies and good attacks, spend some time in the lab, then come back to the game. You might be glad you did. (Sorry for the use of spaces to divide paragraphs, UA-cam wasn't accepting line breaks for some reason.)

    Yeah, in general, the faster a game matches you up with another player the more random your connection will be. If a game takes a while to match you up with someone it's usually because it's taking time to test the connection before you actually play.

    Glad you finally realized how bad you were at Pokken on the stream Max. It was your first day and no matter how casual you thought the game was you were dead wrong, it happens to us all. As far as the connection issues go you gotta remember that every game that is online has players that have horrible connections, that's just the way it goes for Street Fighter V, Killer Instinct, Call of Duty etc, etc.

    • @SpectralStar
      @SpectralStar 8 років тому

      I've been playing fighting games all my life and this game has just as many laggy people as any other game with online out there. It's just stuff you come to expect. You might have 5 or 6 laggy matches and then 1 or 2 good connection matches. That's in any game. If you want to say one game is garbage then you got to say every online game is garbage. Like I said, maybe he was having probably having a bad day, but he shouldn't crap on a good game.

    • @SpectralStar
      @SpectralStar 8 років тому

      ***** Nah, it's pretty decent online. Not going to say it's the best because It hasn't fully been explored by the community yet. Yeah, I feel your pain about not being able to choose a lobby, but they do find you a match within 3 to 4 seconds which is pretty sweet. They do need to show connection bars at least. I'm with you on being able to choose who you fight but even SFV will show you 5 bar connections and then you get into a laggy match sometimes. This is where people fail because they have laggy connections.
