Dude that was awsome ! I'm going to replace mine with an Android system from Seicane. I needed to know if there was a fiber optic cable back there, and now I can see that there is, so I'll have to purchase the optional fiber adaptor with my new stereo. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I just picked up an '04 SL500 today and previous owner stuck in an aftermarket radio. I have to get a Mercedes OEM Command unit to put in. This will help greatly! I hope and pray whoever took the original unit out did not cut the original harness.
About a year ago I was wanting to do the same thing ,hunted hi and low for an instructive vid ,ended up feeling my way around now I have done it no worries about doing it again ..easy! Thanks anyway caus I did not record the steps would’ve taken too long.good vid.
I just had to service the Comand on my SL. This is exactly how it went with me and I'll be keeping this video as a favorite for future reference if I need it. Well done! I second the suggestion to get a real screwdriver ;-)
Thank you for your comment! I note for the screwdriver ! 😊 😉 The tool I used is an all-in-one. Practical because I have all the torx accessible quickly but... more difficult to handle indeed ! 😀
Does anyone know what wiring harness is used to power up the COMAND unit? I'd like to buy it for a man cave project but can't find any info on it anywhere. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks again your videos are very helpful 🙂 Say my red indicator lights don't work for the ABC lift, sport mode and tow mode. Does this mean the whole set of switches are bad? Or is a plug just disconnected?
Mine was pretty easy to remove, but the new Android stereo from Seicane is suppost to be plug and play. I couldn't figure out how to hook up the fiber optic. I sent an email to them and they sent me back a wiring diagram. I'll try again later.
I love your presentation. I sold my Harley and bought a 2005 MB SL500 as 2nd car a year ago. What I can figure out is once in a while when I turn on the ignition, my command unit will make this really loud noise like the volume of the radio was turned on full blast. It freakin’ scares me sometimes. I have to shut off the engine for the loud noise to stop. Any idea what’s causing that?
Wow ! It's really strange. I've never encountered this kind of problem... Hard to say what it could be ! A starting point might be to check the electrical connections on the rear of the COMAND and clean them with an electrical contact cleaner... And you should try to pinpoint the problem and understand the situation in which this noise occurs: was the COMAND previously on the radio or CD, at what volume, etc.? If it only happens when it was on CD. Does it happen with any CD? And so on... Good luck !
Just to add - this won’t work on a 2008-2010 SL - in these ones the unit is screwed at the top as well - in order TTP access the screws you need to remove the top speaker/clock, then remove the centre vents (very very difficult) then you can unscrew the top screws holding the head unit. Terrible design.

Did you replace it? If so, how did it go?
I have just subscribed to your channel. You do outstanding work. Thank you for your contribution. With this my SL55 AMG will continue to work as new.

Thank you. Very clear instructions.
Thanks Captain !
That was a good video. Nicely done. I'm not certain I will need to do that, but I do have a CD stuck so maybe I will need to.
Thank you. I’m surprised you don’t buy a proper set of torx screwdrivers, they would make life easier for you.
You're right man ! 😉 Thanks for your comment !

@@IfixmyBenz what’s your recommendation for a command unit replacement for the 05 MB SL500? A newer version, that is.
@@gusdeguzman8727 Personally, I'd go for an identical used COMAND.
I removed and replaced unit but don’t have any sound? What do I do to get volume?
Bro Thank You (ZZZanku)
Thanks Bro ! 😉
Master
Thanks ! 😊

By the way, was there a 2010 SL550?
