The paper doll book brought back memories as a child. I am 80 years old now and I remember cutting girls out of Sears catalogs and then finding clothes in the catalog to fit each girl doll that I had cut out. It was so much fun and my mind goes back to my childhood as you paged through that book. So many things that you show from the past brings memories to me. Thank you for keeping the past alive for me. I just love your site. 💙
You are a powerhouse of energy, and I think you're the kind of mother everyone should have had. I'm awed by your patience and wisdom. Wishing you all good things.
Many years ago I used to buy and sell my two daughters clothes in consignment sales. Now I'm doing it for my two granddaughters clothes. I was recently a consignor at a huge sale near my area. On consignor night I spent $170.00 but sold $153.00 at the sale so I was very happy with that.
I'm so glad to hear you have started letting the girls decide what they want to keep or give away. I think it will be so helpful to your family. Letting them do it will save you time, & will teach the girls responsibility so they can continue to do it in their own homes when they grow up.
I use parchment paper when I do the second rise, it makes it easier when transferring the risen dough to the hot Dutch oven. You just grab all four corners of the paper and set the whole thing inside the the pot. It’s easy to take out when done too. You made it look easy with the use of the towel, though. Like many people, I made lots of bread during 2020. The bread looks beautiful!
My mother in law gave me the best “new bride” advice 45 years ago. Anytime you store something that had water, like a coffee maker, thermos, water bottle, etc. always put a small sheet of paper towel inside. It will absorb any water and no mold or funky smell.
Love the consignment/thrift/garage sale/free hauls especially what you get for the kids! It’s how I found you years ago on UA-cam and look forward to those still!
One of the Mom things I appreciate about you is how you encourage the kids to craft, go outdoors to play as the weather permits, and school time not just with the girls but with Luke as well!! Kids today spend way too much time on electronic this and that and not enough time being creative, reading, and playing. Even though your sourdough bread wasn't very sour, it still looked delicious. I believe you are the best steward on YT and we can all learn so much from you!! Many hugs and blessings!😊💖
I noticed you got a copy of The Courage of Sarah Noble. I love that book. I am retired now, but I read it to my students when I was a primary teacher. They really enjoyed it as well!
I have a teen and tween. You are so right, the selection dies off in consignment. I miss all the little clothes in the wash. Enjoy this special time. It goes by so fast. Your bread looked beautiful. 💗 Glad you are feeling better.💗
That blue checkered dress was so darling! It reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. 😊 Our sale was last week! I had company so I didn't get to shop. I did consign and sold ALL my items! I'm so grateful to have that little bit of extra for swim lessons and new sandals for my kids. The prices are a little more, but your helping out other moms. I'm always grateful when other moms shop my items! 🥰
I love the free swap that you and friends do twice a year. I wish we had something like that here on Long Island. I'll have to look and see if we do. You got some really cute clothes for the kids. :)
Good Morning Hilary! Your bread looked so good! The reason it wasn't "sour" is because you essentially made yeast bread, but added starter. True sourdough uses the starter as it leavening. It's a great recipe to use up your discard, and practice making sourdough! You are doing great! 💕
We have 2 consignment organizers on Cape (one does upper/Falmouth and a mid Cape location and I often hit both sales each season), thankfully! Up until the pandemic, I always consigned in them. During the pandemic I started using Postmark and find that's easier for me, but I may begin to do both in the fall because things don't leave as fast as I'd like on PM. Usually, I donate whatever doesn't sell at the consignment sales so it's like a breath of fresh air lol. Anyways, all that to say, I love everything you found! I don't mind paying more than I would at maybe Salvation Army or other thrift shops for a few reasons; I can shop the sections I need because everything is organized and the money goes to the mommas who took all that time to consign the items and the local business who organized it. I know as a consigner myself, that money would always be used for things we needed a lot like family haircuts or something. Also, the items that don't sell are often (consignors choose that option if they want to) donated to local charities that typically distribute the items for free to our neighbors who need them.
The little sewing kit you found is adorable.. 🤗❤ I remember learning embroidery when I was a child. We even learned it in Home-Ec in school! It's a shame they don't really have that class in schools anymore. I think it was a very valuable learning tool for kids. TFS your day with us. 💕
I could see the kids silhouette pix you had talked about doing, but I must have missed you sharing them!!! Look so cute. I did that in second grade classroom a couple times years ago. I'd work on a few during indoor recess from rain. They were big and a lot of Work for 20-25 students. They made great Mother's Day gifts. I love having a tiny or odd lamp in different parts of the house. Love the one for the girls room.Luke is adorable. He plays and interacts so well. Hope to see baby soon. I love his squeals!🦒🦒🦒🦒
The dress with the spot - I think the spot may be on the back of the dress. When there’s no tag you can tell the back from the front of the outfit because the back comes up higher at the neckline. Just try it on her and you’ll be able to tell which way is the correct way it goes. It won’t fit right if it’s backwards., it will fit weird. 💕
Cheap hair spray can remove ink, but you could get a little cloth/ribbon flower at the craft store that could cover up the spot - I've even done that for myself.
I always enjoy your thrift hauls and it’s really inspiring me to start looking for everything I buy secondhand first! Thank you for your time you put into all your videos😁
What a blessing you are to all of us, here on your channel. Such delicious looking meals, that you prepare for your sweet family. All the cute things you found at the sale, and the hair cut for your son that you decided to squeeze in. Love your videos. Have a great weekend, enjoy family time. Faye
Hillary, You are such a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing with us , it is refreshing to watch family content. God Bless.Sending Love all the way from Alabama, Chrissie ♥️🙏
Wonderful vlog Hilary! Loved the clothes you were able to find for the kids 👍🏻. Those bibs work so well for teething babies (my granddaughter had them). The bread looked amazing, great job 👍🏻😊. Have a good day and see you tomorrow. 💚
You did great at the sale. I really love the bathing suit for the baby. The paper dolls were my favorite from my childhood. I love that the girls can design their own. I bought a Fancy Nancy ones for my granddaughter for her birthday. She is to young but I could not resist. I liked how the sell put together outfits.
Hilary, I totally loved this vlog. I usually start out with a plan, but some days we just wing it and go with whatever pops up. The bread looked so good. Enjoyed traveling along with you. Have a GREAT weekend.
The sourdough will be more sour if you don't use the instant yeast & let it rise with the natural yeast. I line the bowl with greaseproof paper when it's rising so I can lift it into the Dutch oven on the paper x
That paper doll book was so cute. Loved all the clothes you got for the kids. They were all so cute. The sour dough bread looked delicious. Great vlog as always.
I'm envious of your consignment event! We are in the sticks of Maine and nothing like that ever happens here. Jealous! I admire your hard work on the sour dough. I feel like I'd have no patience!!
I also made sourdough during 2020. Got great tips off of Farmhouse on Boone channel. We didn't need yeast for ours which was great because we couldn't find it during the pandemic. Also Lisa has other recipes that you can use your starter with and we loved the sourdough skillet recipe. 💗 your channel sweet Hilary...
Last minute days always feel so productive!! Look at all you accomplished!! Wow! So glad you were feeling well enough to do all this! Enjoy all the yummies! 😋 see you tomorrow!!❤️🙏🏻
Oh my stars that precious blue and white checked dress. 😍😍😍😍 Absolutely love classic kids clothing. Ummmm for your first SD 🍞 loaf it looks amazing! I tired a gluten free SD starter and had a rough go with it but man oh mighty it made the most delicious gf pancakes. It's been a couple years and I still think about them.
Oh my goodness, Hilary! What a fantastic haul! You found some beautiful things! About the red spot on the gingham dress: if your special stain remover doesn't work, you can try straight rubbing alcohol [if you think it's ink?] Thanks for sharing all the goodies. Hope you're feeling better today
Omg its been a while seeing your consignment hauls! I love the pink coat! I go to the each season! Shopping for girls is fun as a mom of 2 boys now had a girl! 5t and up get to be slim pickings at the consignment sales! We had 2 sales thhis week going to the 2nd one today! Our family loves finding legos, crafts, books at these sales!
When I consign it always makes me feel better to think that I’m buying from another parent and keeping these close out of the landfill. It makes me feel better to think about that even if I don’t feel like I got the cheapest price. Great haul!
That’s what I wanted to say. Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone has great recipes, I tried a few (French sourdough bread, and English muffins are my go-to) and they are awesome. Like someone mentioned above, a true sourdough bread won’t use yeast at all and the taste of sourdough will come only after you let it proof a long time (12-24h). Try again and you won’t be disappointed. You’re so lucky to have a sourdough that old :) I started mine from scratch and it’s only 3 years old, but it works. Good luck in your sourdough journey!!!
I love everything you bought at the sale. They were like new and new condition so the prices reflected that. I think because the bread was from discard and was a combo of sourdough and yeast it didn’t taste sour. The older (in your home) a starter gets, the more sour it will become. I also recently learned something new. I watch Elliott Homestead and she said that we are often use to commercial sourdough products and they actually use a “sourdough flavoring” (like we use vanilla, almond extract, etc) which creates that strong sourdough taste- while not necessarily being authentic.
The paint by numbers is around 15$ at Michaels! My hubby bought me one recently and it was a lot of fun. Evie might be able to do it but they are fairly challenging! :)
Not sure if you watch Seinfeld (one of my favorite shows), but I can’t but help think of the Seinfeld episode where George buys an expensive cashmere sweater, as a gift, at a deep discount (it has a tiny red spot on it) for Elaine. I am on day five of my sourdough starter. No real activity this morning other than three times the bubbles from yesterday. The pink shade was hand cut and would have cost more than $7.00 by itself,so not bad.
What a fun day, Hilary. The bread looked amazing. Plus I always love great finds at consignment sales. 🙂
It's so nice that you have that consignment sale close to you. That looked like so much fun. So big! Your bread looked delicious.

I loved seeing the paper dolls - took me back to my childhood (a long, long time ago !). Another fun video to watch. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
What a well organized sale. I am impressed with the bar code tags and the “spot” indicator. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Loving your VEDA! Do you happen to have a link for your block print pillow from Walmart?
Thanks for watching! Sure thing www.google.com/search?q=walmart+block+print+pillow&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE your intro music!!

Yessssss 😂 Such a good episode
You make the bread making seem so easy 😊
It can be as easy or hard as you’d like
The bread looked so good 😊
Enjoyed so much. The bread looks delicious.
The clothing haul was so cute. The kids will look adorable in them. Dinner looked delicious. I have a question. I'm getting ready to redo my kitchen island and the cabinet has stain on the inside. It's not food grade. We don't put food in it but baking pans and blender and few other things. Do I need to put a food grade poly over it or try to remove it ? It's going to be hard to get it out. Thanks for sharing your day. ❤️
Is it freshly stained or years old? You could add a topcoat if you’d like, but if it’s been there for years then it probably won’t leech onto anything
@@OldWorldHome Thank you for your help. It's been on the island 20 years. I just want to be safe.
Enjoying VEDA!
I just love Paper Dolls. We had I Love Lucy and The Lennon Sisters…M❤️M of 5
Elegant bread😉🌷
I am on day five of my sourdough starter. No real activity this morning other than three times the bubbles from yesterday. My question is, everyday I have had discard everyday so far, but today there was not a drop. I am using 60 G of starter each day along with 60 G of both flour and water. Is this normal/okay? I can detect an odor from the flour mixture. To me it smells like glue, but I am good with that. Am I good to continue? Thank you!!
Yum your bread looks great
Great finds for the kids! 💙
Great finds! 🏡💕tyfs
Love these videos
Was this the just between friends sale? I feel like they’re very over priced
No, kidzignments maybe? Not sure
I’m going to try the sourdough bread recipe. I’m thinking that since you said it’s not very sour at all then little children and anyone who doesn’t care for the sourdough flavor may like this one… hopefully LoL 🙏🏻 🤞
What a day!! ❤
Isn’t the whole purpose of sourdough NOT to use yeast? For me the bread looks delicious and I myself struggle with yeast less sourdough bread so this is a great solution but maybe that is why your bread was not so sour tasting?!
It’s the discard, so it’s not as sour as full on sourdough and doesn’t have the same leavening power yet
@@OldWorldHome oh wauw 🤩 never knew this was possible with discard, usually only crackers as far as i know of
I started my Sourdough from scratch . Lisa...from Farmhouse on Boone has the best, and simplest tutorial on making and feeding sourdough and TONS of recipes on her blog/vlog. Check her out, if you haven't already 😊!
The paper doll book looks so lovely!! I remember playing with them as a child...I honestly didn't think kids still did! I so admire your style of parenting, and just the many TRADITIONAL ways you live! ❤❤ Lovely vlog, as always ❤
ua-cam.com/users/FarmhouseonBoone does A LOT of sour dough. Check out her channel for her tips. I believe that the more air that makes contact with the start the more sour it can be.
👍😊
