10:30 I think that idea behind specialists is that anyone can use them (as there is not even a table), the text just lists examples/explanations on how they might appear in other armies.
@@Fearior having read the intro to that section, you are correct. 👍 I suppose it makes sense, as in that period, mercenaries would fight for whoever paid them. So for a skirmish there is no reason why small bands of mercenaries would fight for even an enemy of the pay was good. 😁
Great run thru. I do think Knighthood is powerful. It means the French will benefit from taking the Specialist Knight as Crusader ( resilience 2) , then Prowess for the charge !
Great run-through. I own none of the Saga books, so, aside from this one, what else do I need? I have stacks of medieval figures, mounted and foot. I can field armies for both sides in a tabletop.
Ah, that changes my response. Look, I'm 62yo and I had planned to play with a stack of guys in retirement. However, two have died and three are now chronically ill and unable to war game, so I had to turn to solo war gaming and find systems that work. I own both LR and Midguard. Saga has complimentary options to both. I use Mythic Game Master Emulator 2nd Ed, specifically the Fate chart and Fate Question Answers on page 194, to help make ALL my decisions nowadays, in almost all games I play (I can play Junta, solo, with all seven factions). Anyway, since emailing you, I've downloaded some more Saga stuff and I may well buy Age of Chivalry, because of you. Keep up the gaming my friend, and your posts. You're doing more good than you may realise.
Hi Peter, if you go to the Gripping Beast website, they list what you want there. Basically you will need the rule book which is £12, the measuring sticks, L is 12”, M is 6” and S is 4”, so if they are out of stock you can make your own. You need two sets of saga dice, but if they are out of stock you can use d6’s a roll of 6 is a rare dice, 4/5 is a uncommon and 1/2/3 is a common dice. They do various supplements, dark ages, crusades etc, but this Age of Chivalry looks great. A pity you are not near to Farnborough, I could give you a game.
@@BigWill501st in my opinion, Lion Rampant is the easier of the three, I play a lot of that for an easy relaxing evening game. Saga is quite unique in that battle boards are used, and they all vary, so it needs more thought. I have yet to try Midguard, but I think it sits between both the other two.
Hopefully Graham is more successful with Scots in Saga than he has been in lion rampant. :) Great review. I got into Saga after watching your how to play saga videos so thank you for that.
Hello, how do you understand the ability "knighthoot" for the french ? Who else but the lord could benefit from this ability ? Since all the others option are specialist. :s did i miss something ?
@@fedounet38 the legends of Chivalry are also hero’s so if you replace your warlord with one of those, they can use Knighthood. All have resilience 1, except John II The Good, who has resilience 2. So mostly the hero will cancel a melee or shooting attack every time it happens. It can also be used either in your turn or your opponent’s. Of course John II will cancel 2 each time. 😁 Well that’s how I see it anyway, I am sure I am correct.
Looks interesting! Italian condottieri, Swiss, French civil war (Hundred years war), English civil war + Scotts, Hussites... I only miss some Spanish moors or Holy roman Empire really or a change for the crusade moors/imperials need be. Just like Vikings or Crusades this period I think many are more into or keen on. Looking forward to any battle reports :)
Graham is editing our first game now, so will be on his channel soon. I will add a link when it is published. A good game but we both made errors and were a bit slow. Good fun though. 😀👍
This video really has me excited to get back into Saga - cheers for posting. Enjoy your game with Graham!
@@axisandaliens will do. 👍 and thanks.
Thanks for this Alec, I hope you’ll do a follow up video with your own post game thoughts/impressions.
Thanks for the breakdown!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks.
Great channel! You out do many other channels with your presentation and clear explanations. Glad to have discovered you recently.

I’m in the same boat! I’m trying to decide if Lions Rampart, Midgard, or this is best for medieval/hundred years war.

Yes, I know Graham wants to get his Scot’s out, he is long overdue a win with them. 😁

@@wargameshobby Thats what I feared of^^ since I dont like playing with the legends. I wanted it so much to work on the specialist :)

I've never played saga, mostly because dark ages stuff wasn't that interesting to me. But now I might consider it.
Thanks for the review
