Pulling Pottery Handles | Size & Shape | Bacon Cooker Example | Asheville Potter, Salvaterra Pottery

Things to think about when putting handles on pieces. It’s all about form and function. It needs to look attractive and it needs to function well. Too small of a handle and it will break easily and look funny. Too large and not shaped nicely looks clunky and ugly.
I have several die sizes I use with my extruder. I use the extruder as a starting point and then shape and pull the handle from there. I could pull from a lump of clay but have found for consistency and ease, pulling a handle from an extruded ribbon is best.
