I actually received my very first tattoo today, and it was of 3 tall, encircled pine trees… In homage to this story, me and my two grown children, and my love for my home state of California. I now live in Texas. ❤ Just thought I’d listen to the story once again, as it has meant so much to our family over the years. God bless ❤

Me and my wife wrote a Christmas play based on this wonderful story. it was done at 2 churches . It was called We Three Trees , and it was even televised locally. Great story.
Hopefully I can explain well enough. The story is basically a beautiful way of pointing to the life of Jesus, the Christ. And it expresses the way in which even the most mundane things become extraordinary when used for God's purposes. The first tree wanted to hold treasure but it was fashioned into a feed trough for livestock. However, its wish was fulfilled because it ended up holding Jesus Christ after He was born. His mother used it as his crib because He was born where livestock were kept. And Jesus is the greatest treasure of all because He was born to bring salvation and eternal life to us. The second tree wanted to be a powerful ship that carried kings but it only became small fishing boat. However, it ended up carrying Jesus Christ and His followers through a storm and witnessed Christ perform a miracle when He calmed the storm. So, though it was only a small boat, it ended up carrying Jesus who is the greatest of all kings. The King of Kings. The third tree wanted just to be the tallest tree so that when people looked at it, their eyes would be drawn upward and they would think of God. But it became a stack of beams that was later fashioned into the cross that Jesus was crucified on. But after Jesus was crucified, He rose again from the dead three days later and thus completed the work that He had been Sent to do on our behalf- To take the penalty for our sins by dieing a criminal's death in our place and to rise again so that we too could be raised up after death and be reunited with God forever. So the tree then realized that when people looked at the cross that she had become, they would truly be reminded of God and His great love for us
