I know those neighborhoods very well…I did a lot of growing up in the “American Cities” tract, north-west of the intersection of Petit and Telephone…and whether that area and East Ventura in general has much going on in terms of shopping and eating is a matter of perspective; That Grocery Outlet may not be nicely finished, but it has pretty much everything you need at a good price (That spot was an Alpha Beta when my family moved back to Ventura in’73 and then a Ralph’s sometime after that)…and there may not be much nicer, sit down dining, but there are plenty of eateries….Tony’s Burrito Hut in that center has been a mainstay of Mexican food for many decades and other places have popped up…and it’s a short drive to the center near those Presidential streets for more eateries and grocery shopping…or out to the Victoria area….or out to Wells for Cafe 126. You could almost say that the “East End” is kind of like an ever-growing suburb in how iit relates to the rest of the city…. It has that sort of feel.
