I'm 18 and have heard of both the banjo minnow and the helicopter lure so there is a few of us from the younger generation that know these lures , I actually have a box of helicopter lures and the VHS tape that came with it that my grandpa bought back in the day and I absolutely adore them and have caught a ton of good bass on them.
Believe it or not I was in the Helicopter Lure infomercial...I was 10 years old at the time. I caught a 7 pounder on one and they came and interviewed me....I still can't stand Roland Martin
I loved and still love my banjo minnow set I bought when I was a kid, that was like 25 years go.. I liked the way the hooks used a screw to rig it, it made it easy to use and switch out minnows.. I know I can always catch a fish when I use it.
My uncle gave me banjo minnow lures because he never liked them or caught anything on them. He had the original banjo lures before they added the tail creases. I love them, I catch a crap ton of fish on them. I use a weird technique with them but it works amazing.
My grandfather bought the helicopter lures. He fished em for years and I never saw him catch a thing on them. I enjoyed the throwback video. Keep up the good work bud
Omg thank you for bringing the banjo minnow back! I'm as a kid that loved fishing I wpuld watch that infomercial over and over and over again drooling at all the bass going crazy for it in those big ol fish tanks.
I must be getting old! I caught fish on both of these but before that was the Argobast Jitterbug which I still fish and still catches good fish.Great videos BamaBass.
Thank you for bringing the banjo minnow back into my memory. I completely forgot about it. As a kid that loved fishing, I watched that commercial and drooled over it for years!!!! years God yammit!!!!!! Now I can satisfy that itch now that I got my own credit cards!!! 😂🤣😆
When I was growing up I remember my brother had a popping frog but when you pop it a string would come out in the legs would start kicking !!! Kind of like a pull the string doll , but a frog that kicked his legs !!!! Try to look for that one !!!!💯👌😉🐸🎣
Omg I can't believe you're using the helicopter lure! My buddy was using that in a pond one time and the biggest bass hit it like three times and my buddy couldn't get hooked up! Had to be a 8-10 pounder!
I caught a lot of fish on the banjos. I used the dying technic. I still have some and plan on using them this summer. I have the helicopters too but never caught anything on them. Thanks for posting, brought back some great memories.
Bama bass I had those helicopters lures, I had no luck with them. But that's crazy seeing another angler with these. I thought I was the only one who remembered them!
I had them both and there was another one I bought too, I believe it was the "Flying Lure". It promoted the idea of the lure moving away back into the hard places to get into. I don't remember catching any fish of any of them....smiles.
I know alot of people knock the Banjo Minnow for being a "As Seen on TV" lure or a gimmick bit it really does catch fish. I have 3 large mouth over 5 lbs on the banjo minnow. For what they cost on ebay or amazon I highly recommend giving them a try. They really are no different from fishing a fluke. Great video! Keep em coming
After owning a set of these back in the day we started experimenting with other lures and making our own Banjo style lures. One that worked really well was Tubes tossed against the shoreline with a homemade screw lock through a wormhook and a small piece of plastic worm to keep them on. Hell I bet that STILL works lol. We even had a friend get a 20+ lb carp using a tube Banjo style. The concept is a good concept and did catch a lot of fish. I think it was just ahead of it's time is all and if a Bass Pro like KVD had made it up and passed it on it would be a standard rig now. Hell look at some of the dumb looking rigs we use now. There are a few (Like the Senko wacky rig) I would never would have used in the 80's or 90's and back then remember the big ol paddle tail worms we used? I bet they would have been good wacky style. Great video and thanks for making me think back to the earlier days of my life fishing.
I bought the banjo minnow set when I was 10. They worked great in my buddy's farm pond but not so great anywhere else. Lost a lot of good fish on them too. Stopped using them after I lost the weighted eyes. Blue and clear was my go to.
Hahaha!!! This awesome! Brings back memories, my dad bought the whole set of helicopter lures and it never worked for us. At least you are catching something. We probably just didn't know how to fish these. Lol!!!
Oh man ... i was born in the 90s and me and the helicopter baits go way back lol. Never did catch any bass off them but i do remember having a wide selection of different colors that my grandfather gave me back in my childhood days ^_^. Ive seen banjo minnows but never owned one tho. Also I hope all is and going to be okay from the hurricane. stay safe out there :)
yes infact i usually only use the banjo. I fish the halifax river here in fl. and catch nice size fish. the trick is to twitch it a few times and let it sink a few secs then keep repeating. the fish suck the lure in head first as it drops like a dying minnow. thats why the hook is in front.
Haha man that commercial of the banjo minnow brings back memories....I remember when it first aired when I was a kid like 10 years old, I wanted some so bad but they were to expensive. Good memories.
I still have leftover banjo minnows from when I bought them when they first came out and I used to KILLLLLL the bass on those. They just swallowed the whole damn lure. But the banjo minnows in your video are the newer version. Mine are the original minnows with no special eyes or anything.
O my I really remember the helicopter lure and my uncle buying the real big set! That said BamaBass you and Liz are beyond awesome LOVE your videos!!!! I am so jealous of what you get to do daily!!!!! Again AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
You should try to find or use the flying lures. I remember getting those as a kid. They swim away from you after you raise the rod tip and lower it. Great for getting under docks or brush....supposedly.
When I was about 5 years old my dad gave me a bunch of helicopter lures. I thought they was the coolest lure ever made. Never caught a fish on them though LOL
I fish the banjo minnow like crazy. I won three kayak tournaments in a row just cuz of those. they work great in Missouri at fall time. when bait fish ball up. u can burn the banks and weed with them to. my favorite lure of all time. and I'm 25. bought my first set when i was 18.
The banjo is the only thing I use anymore. I have use only the banjo since about 1998, and I have caught hundreds of fish. I rarely go fishing without catching or getting bites. I have bought about 4 kits in my life and it's great. Never had a bite on the helicopter lure.
I remember my parents bought me the helicopter lures master kit. Had silver, gold, white and pink color but only came with 3 hooks and 2 swivels. Only caught one fish with that lure but I still use the banjo minnow till this day
Nice video. I love this idea video. I thought the helicopter was more of a sinking style lure if I remember it right... See if you can find any True Motion lures I use to love that infomercial as well.
I actually like the Banjo minnah. I used to put the minnows in the Berkeley power bait bags for scent. They worked but i just stopped using them after i ran out of corkscrews n black rings. I know u can just hook em but i was over it by then.
Haha, I remember both of these!! Banjo seems like an actually decent lure, but the helicopter lure I always thought was a joke! Do you remember the Foxy lure, or foxy jig? I vaguely remember the commercial, and HAD to go get a pack when I was a kid!
I bought both when they came out. I've never caught any fish with either lure. I've had several strikes on the banjo minnow, but the only problem was that the fish would only strike the lure, and never take in the hook. I got a lot of interest in the helicopter from fish, but nothing big enough to strike it. Both were fun to fish with though.
This might be off topic but back in the day around 1965 my granddaddy and I would go ice fishing with a can of peas. We'd saw out a hole and put the peas around the hole. Fish would come up and take a pee and go back down. Craziest thing I ever saw. ;) ....
Had the banjo minnows when I was a youngin. I never had success with them in the river I lived on. But it could be said I wasn’t the best fisherman as a kid. Hah I enjoy the videos, keep it up.
Hey I need help choosing a frog reel. If you had to choose: Curado K, Daiwa SV TWS, Lew's Super Duty Wide Speed Spool, Lew's Custom Speed Spool MSB, Lew's Tourney MB, Lew's BB-1 Pro, or Lew's Tourney Pro G?
I can't remember the name but what was the lure back in the 90s that was flat bodied jig like but it's purpose was as soon as it hit the water it would dart forward so u could easily get under docks or under heavy cover etc?
I have a tray of banjo minnows from the small 2 inch all the way up to a 10 in I use them a lot and its like a drop shot u just reel into it if you set the hook you will actually more times then not pull it out of the fishs mouth nice video
Roland Martin talked me into that helicopter lure crap when I was a kid too. If you catch a fish on it in this video that would make 1 I've seen caught on it ever. The banjo I've used as well. It's basically a fluke. A crap one but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
i caught my personal best largemouth bass on the banjo minnow. the plain white same size as you see here. the bass was "9lbs" about 30 inches. and i havn't caught or even heard of one caught that size in the lake since. i highly regret not having a valid picture and measurements because it was a mount worthy fish. i may never catch another that big ever again
Anyone fished the Banjo Minnow or Helicopter Lure?
BamaBass I love you keep the hard work up
BamaBass I have used banjo minnow
BamaBass I remember buying a set of Banjo Minnow for $80 when I was freaking 11 years old!
The banjo minnow always got me incredible bites but any short bites you couldn't hook up because the hook up front.
BamaBass I've never heard of the helicopter lure can you buy it any where
Love it! I remember ordering the helicopter lure off TV and it took about 3 months to arrive.
LMB_ Toad_Catcher The one I ordered still hasn’t arrived.
@@mtphill71 has it come yet?
I'm 18 and have heard of both the banjo minnow and the helicopter lure so there is a few of us from the younger generation that know these lures , I actually have a box of helicopter lures and the VHS tape that came with it that my grandpa bought back in the day and I absolutely adore them and have caught a ton of good bass on them.
Nice! They still make the Banjo Minnows but it was tough getting my hands on the Helicopter lures.
BamaBass if you ever need any I have plenty.
i have the box and vhs as well - i juuuust found them again a few nights ago so i was pleased to see this video! thanks
Flardaboy I'm only 13, and have the helicopters in my tackle box
Flardaboy lmao me to my grandma gave me them and they were my dads
Believe it or not I was in the Helicopter Lure infomercial...I was 10 years old at the time. I caught a 7 pounder on one and they came and interviewed me....I still can't stand Roland Martin
Whats up with Roland Martin?
Brandon Johnson long story. He’s a turd
John B again long story. But don’t promise kids things and don’t follow through
I loved and still love my banjo minnow set I bought when I was a kid, that was like 25 years go.. I liked the way the hooks used a screw to rig it, it made it easy to use and switch out minnows.. I know I can always catch a fish when I use it.
When I was younger the first top water lure I ever used was the helicopter lure bubblegum color
Same here, I can remember that pink bubblegum color.
BamaBass bubble gum was the sexy shad of its days.
I still use bubble gum color Trick Worms. They're my best color by far.
+Rob Estees amen to that I'm bout to fish the same lure ur talking about
In Kentucky it's called the Banja minner
Mr Pendleton
Now I know I heard it called that in Arkansas too! That was too funny
Caught a big hog on a banja minner on cedar creek lake about 9 years ago
My uncle gave me banjo minnow lures because he never liked them or caught anything on them. He had the original banjo lures before they added the tail creases. I love them, I catch a crap ton of fish on them. I use a weird technique with them but it works amazing.
thenuker 515 I used the little purple ones off of the docks and would kill em.
thenuker 515 yeah they defiantly do catch fish
dude those things are crazy looking lol
Lol I still got both of these. the guy in the banjo minnow kit, let it die let it die and then I snap it. nice video guys
Luke Heath 😂😂omg someone remembers that .....let it die let it die let it die ...but seriously I caught so many fish on that lure
I still have the Banjo Minnow in my tacklebox. I use it regularly on the river and small ponds around N. VA.
Awesome throwback video ! Brought back alot of good childhood memories !!
I wanna see Liz pull out some more 10 pounders! I'd love another quest to catch Liz's PB series again.
I must be getting old! I caught fish on both of these but before that was the Argobast Jitterbug which I still fish and still catches good fish.Great videos BamaBass.
Y'all remember the "Walkin Worm"? Lol
I have that.
SLICE HEARTSHOT I remember when you made theHunter videos a lot.
Classic bait...I remember those commercials brother....G.B.A. ( God Bless America )....land of the free and still home of the brave....
I caught a lot of fish on the banjos. I used the dying technic. I still have some and plan on using them this summer. I have the helicopters too but never caught anything on them. Thanks for posting, brought back some great memories.
My uncle gave me all his helicopter lures this year. Very interesting bait that gets bites. Never used the other bait. Love your channel.
Bama bass I had those helicopters lures, I had no luck with them. But that's crazy seeing another angler with these. I thought I was the only one who remembered them!
The sound of dueling banjos coming from the woods is a sign to go.
I had them both and there was another one I bought too, I believe it was the "Flying Lure". It promoted the idea of the lure moving away back into the hard places to get into. I don't remember catching any fish of any of them....smiles.
I had the flying lure. Caught several bass in a pond that had some cliffs that cut back below the water. Only place that lure would work😁
I know alot of people knock the Banjo Minnow for being a "As Seen on TV" lure or a gimmick bit it really does catch fish. I have 3 large mouth over 5 lbs on the banjo minnow. For what they cost on ebay or amazon I highly recommend giving them a try. They really are no different from fishing a fluke. Great video! Keep em coming

I had the Banjo, the Trumotion lure, the PowerPak, Stimulure, and my favorite the Bionic Minnow.
I bought the banjo minnow set when I was 10. They worked great in my buddy's farm pond but not so great anywhere else. Lost a lot of good fish on them too. Stopped using them after I lost the weighted eyes. Blue and clear was my go to.
I remember when the Banjo infomercials hit. I didn’t think I could live if i didn’t order right then. Never panned out like the claims. Imagine that.
Stephen and Liz I enjoyed the video. I remember those commercials well.
Greatest part of the video. 6:20 randomly "cue that banjo!" 🪕
Good video my friend! AND NO OBNOXIOUS MUSIC! Very well done.
Hahaha!!! This awesome! Brings back memories, my dad bought the whole set of helicopter lures and it never worked for us. At least you are catching something. We probably just didn't know how to fish these. Lol!!!

I still have that set of Banjo Minnows that my uncle got me for Christmas almost 10 years ago
Some real blasts from the past there
Never seen a bad video from yall yet!! So keep em coming!!!
yes infact i usually only use the banjo. I fish the halifax river here in fl. and catch nice size fish. the trick is to twitch it a few times and let it sink a few secs then keep repeating. the fish suck the lure in head first as it drops like a dying minnow. thats why the hook is in front.
Next up, the Mighty Bite vs. the Flying Lure. Only caught 1 fish on the flying lure, a 9lb. 11oz. out of Lake Skinner in So. Cal. back in April '93.
Haha man that commercial of the banjo minnow brings back memories....I remember when it first aired when I was a kid like 10 years old, I wanted some so bad but they were to expensive. Good memories.
Great video the Flying lure was my favorites back then

From my childhood too, i loved them both! Flying lure too lol! Nice Fish
Great video!! Keep them coming! Love the old school / as seen on TV lure challenge idea... Can't wait for that prop frog!
I always did great for pike with banjo minnows...they just are a little more to set up with and if the fishing is good the pike rip them up good.
O my I really remember the helicopter lure and my uncle buying the real big set! That said BamaBass you and Liz are beyond awesome LOVE your videos!!!! I am so jealous of what you get to do daily!!!!! Again AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
blast from the past! the helicopter was a go to and never got a bite! but the guys on tv did!
There was a few Ponds around here that the 2 Smallest Sized Original Banjo Minnows got hammered all the Time.
Hahaha! I never bought into that Helicopter lure. But I sure did that Banjo minnow. Ahh the good ol days! Awesome video man!
Interesting too see these, never heard of them before
You should try to find or use the flying lures. I remember getting those as a kid. They swim away from you after you raise the rod tip and lower it. Great for getting under docks or brush....supposedly.

Ian Holmen I'm with you. Banjo minnow always did good for me. Brought a couple kits
Keep these goin. Like the old stuff.
I have caught bass on the banjo minnow.they work great andhave great action.i think they would work in salt also tho i have not tried them
I remember my parents bought me the helicopter lures master kit. Had silver, gold, white and pink color but only came with 3 hooks and 2 swivels. Only caught one fish with that lure but I still use the banjo minnow till this day
You know your watching an amazing angel when they call a 3 pound bass a small fish. 😂 love this channel keep it up
Nice video. I love this idea video. I thought the helicopter was more of a sinking style lure if I remember it right... See if you can find any True Motion lures I use to love that infomercial as well.
The original whopper plopper lol
I actually like the Banjo minnah. I used to put the minnows in the Berkeley power bait bags for scent. They worked but i just stopped using them after i ran out of corkscrews n black rings. I know u can just hook em but i was over it by then.
Man you just brought back some memory's right there my friend
I remember begging my mom to get me the banjo minnow back in the day haha
Me too bro lol i was writing down all the details and presented it to her lol. Had to buy it on my own tho haha
I've caught a ton of fish on the banjo minnow, it slayed them
Haha, I remember both of these!! Banjo seems like an actually decent lure, but the helicopter lure I always thought was a joke! Do you remember the Foxy lure, or foxy jig? I vaguely remember the commercial, and HAD to go get a pack when I was a kid!
These vids are so satisfying
For a second when you switched over to Liz view I didn't notice and wondered why your legs were hairless! I got jelouse for a second! Lol
I still have my banjo minnows somewhere. I really liked them but rarely used them.
Nice vid 👍🏻 I liked the banjo beat 😂
Ima look them lures up and buy them. So kool!
The banjo minnow is a great pond bait some bass love it I mean I've cught the same bass 2 times in one day
I bought both when they came out. I've never caught any fish with either lure. I've had several strikes on the banjo minnow, but the only problem was that the fish would only strike the lure, and never take in the hook. I got a lot of interest in the helicopter from fish, but nothing big enough to strike it. Both were fun to fish with though.
You should try the Luhr Jenson super duper hook on ultra light tackle and see how you fair against both bass, bluegills and crappie!
Hell yeah! The black 5/8 ounce broke back Jitterbug! 💪!
This might be off topic but back in the day around 1965 my granddaddy and I would go ice fishing with a can of peas. We'd saw out a hole and put the peas around the hole. Fish would come up and take a pee and go back down. Craziest thing I ever saw. ;) ....
You can catch polar bears like that also. When the bear bends over to get a pea sneak up behind him and kick him right square in the icehole
I was looking on ebay for a helipcopter lure last week! Just because I couldn't get one when I was younger.
Great idea i love different things like this video keep it up!!!!
I've fished with both versions of the banjo minnow. Love them. Never got a bite with the helicopter
The banjo minnow was my go to as a kid. Caught my pb when i was a kid on one.
YEAAAA Liz, cue the banjo. I had those and did really good on them !
The Deliverance music had me rollin haha
Crazy to see how the game changed. I begged dad and mom to get me those lures!
I still have and use the banjo minnow... they work well for me...
I like it as well as anything else y'all do all good keep it up
I forgot about the helicopter lure until this video! I remember watching fishing shows as a kid and always wanted some!😂
I can't remember the name but what was the lure back in the 90s that was flat bodied jig like but it's purpose was as soon as it hit the water it would dart forward so u could easily get under docks or under heavy cover etc?
I have a tray of banjo minnows from the small 2 inch all the way up to a 10 in I use them a lot and its like a drop shot u just reel into it if you set the hook you will actually more times then not pull it out of the fishs mouth nice video
I loved the Banjo top water frog use to catch alot of bass with it but the banjo minnow would come off after the 3rd fish
Helicopter lures caught me so many fish back in the day. Their so expensive to get now.
Roland Martin talked me into that helicopter lure crap when I was a kid too. If you catch a fish on it in this video that would make 1 I've seen caught on it ever. The banjo I've used as well. It's basically a fluke. A crap one but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
My favorite as seen on tv lures were the bionic minnow and the flying lure. would love to see those against the banjo and helicopter
love the old timey lures
I remember fishing the Banjo minnow and the Helicopter lure.
BamaBass , do you remember the power pack shad and frog?
i caught my personal best largemouth bass on the banjo minnow. the plain white same size as you see here. the bass was "9lbs" about 30 inches. and i havn't caught or even heard of one caught that size in the lake since. i highly regret not having a valid picture and measurements because it was a mount worthy fish. i may never catch another that big ever again
Grandpaw gave me 006 banjo lure set, and i caught me a nice little false albacore on the clear speckled one.
I loved the banjo lures. The first gen was better than the newer ones.
