Has the "cut-off" date for your welder "give-a-way" contest already passed? I've been a subscriber for awhile, but I wasn't notified of your video describing the contest. In fact, it's been a long time since I was notified about a YT video from you. I made a few sissy bars myself, way back in the '70's! I enjoyed the video!
Man I wish I entered the contest I probably would have had a good chance at winning since no one answered the damn phone. That stuff would have made my dreams of opening a small weld/fab business a bit easier.
@@mikesalm5053get a small job and save up start it while at said job then once your fully competent and your ready to sacrifice basically everything you should be good 🤣
If the audio was off slightly in this video, I totally understand. The shop is a loud place and I only had one lav mic hidden under my shirt. I did my best to level out the audio which can make it sound a little muddy at times. I hope everyone enjoyed the video as is. It is always a pleasure to work along side other builders and fabricators in the industry, and even more exciting having my youngest son, Q, with me as we all learn together.
Video is great! It shows the real life of doing fab, and felt like more old school TFS! The back and forth, the missing tools (helmet), things not staying in place. Only thing it lacked to sound like my workshop is a few more "Oh for f*** sake!" As everything keeps going wrong! Ha ha ha
Love the old school fab! Thanks for sharing. Just think of the time and experience that is summed up by Q when he looks at something you’re making and just says ‘Cool!’
I am loving watching a guy with tons of experience helping a guy with a massive amount of experience. Everyone has someone they can look like a greenhorn next to.
Steve is a measing device, thats why he doesnt need one. Ive seen guys pretty good at eye ball forking their way through projects but Steve is on a different level. Just shows what putting in the time now looks like for later.
Love the old school work no bs just two talented craftsman working with their eyes and hands. All while relying on their skill set and years of experience. As a millwright for many years we only use rosebuds to heat large things. Imo and experience I use a cutting head and change to a large diameter tip for heating things like round rod up to bend. I like it better because I can turn that 1/2 round rod cherry red in just a few seconds and allows me greater control of my heat migration. However use what you like and gets you good results. Awesome job showing how something can be made with minimal tools. All a man really needs to start a fab shop is a welder grinder and a good vise .
Man, you had me so damn excited. I was watching that video and you had that 7 foot stack of welders and plasma cutters and all I’m like how awesome would that be to win something like that and you could get anybody to answer their damn phone nowadays I don’t answer my phone either unless I recognize the number, keep up the great take care, buddy
There are a fair number of us old school metal shapers out here in the wild, in the custom car business. From "panel beating", (Coach Smithing) entire car bodies from aluminum and steel to "hand forging" sway bars and trunk springs.... (With proper heat treat/temper for performance), turns out that learning blacksmithing, (the origin of all metal work,) was a great foundation before schooling for machining and welding... You can make amazing things with your hands, eyes, and basic tools, if you hone your skills. Thanks for the video.
The oldschool guys when they would build bars like this one, but from square stock and twist it the entire way or reverse the twist and make a pattern if you will. That is a skill that takes time to master and have it look good too and all even. Be rad to see you guys build one someday!!
This is simply wrought iron work and over in Charleston SC there is a trade school that teaches this craft as those homes down there in the historic district have a lot of wrought iron fences and gates and such and surprisingly there are a lot of youngsters that are interested in this work. The This Old House series did a house down there and they featured this school. So the art is not lost as we have many people who are interested in this type of work. Granted we have a lot of amazing products that help in the fabrication process, but necessity is the mother of invention and all through time we have always had necessity.
I'm curious why you bent the bar hot instead of using an adjustable bender. Is it a tool availability limitation, or is there some other consideration at play that led you to choose hot bending? It clearly caused some irregularities that had to be adjusted, and doing adjustments is a risky process to the part. I wonder what made you take that risk. to be clear, I mean the acute bend in the long bar starting at 19:00. the adjustments I mention are at 26:00
Hey Justin! We met at FabTech in Atlanta a few years back. Im the guy in the wheelchair lol, If nobody has claimed that Primeweld set, i'll take em lol
Nice job. Talented people can do metal work without fancy tools. This job is a perfect example of years of fab work with basic tools. Well done to all involved. No doubt the customer was thrilled.
EDIT: This applies to general low carbon-mid carbon structural steels. The best middle ground would be HR PO (Hot Rolled, Pickled and Oiled) CRS is more expensive than HRS, CRS has internal stresses due to the cold working whereas HRS has mill scale. Generally, for the same Mill Test chemistry CRS will be slightly harder with more tensile and higher yield. More uniform and predictable too when bending and forming. Machining a CRS plate or bar however is where it gets problematic: the internal stresses get released and the part will warp, sometimes violently.
People need to realize all the time and steps needed to fabricate somthing as simple as a sissy bar. Half a day Maby with design and clean-up. It all adds up.
The account page only offers either email or phone number… when I made the account originally and made my first order I had to use my email, but since then I have tried to change it to my phone number but it always gets weird and kicks me back a page or completely off the website…
From personal experience, I think the reason why so many calls go to voice mail is because people are sick of being called by scammers and thus will let numbers they don't know go through to mail.
Did anybody notice when the old man held the torch. He turned physically away from the person handing it to him, almost as if to not accidentally hit somebody with a lit torch.
Okay, this is a challenge (not a fake YT account): if you EVER have winner issues again just ship it to me (will make a YT video in response). If you cant contact a winner, i’ll have the prizes, i’ve been trying to save to get a welder and a cut 60 for my shop. I could probably afford the shipping and import taxes 😂❤
Sad why don’t you just email the winner? Too much spam these days where phone companies block unknown numbers. I Am entered and if you wanna give the welders away I’d be happy to help! But sadly if you called my phone Verizon would block you. You need to give out the number you will be calling from so we can save it in our phones. That might help.
I already have a Tig225x, so I didn't enter unless you went with really old accounts. And I don't have room for the other items, wife would not be happy.

So just my $.02 but I don’t answer calls from numbers that aren’t in my contacts. My policy is that if it’s important enough the caller can leave a message and I can call back if needed.
I don't see a single situation in which you folks used an angle grinder in which it really needed to have the guard off. Keep an eye on your safety, folks.
No one answers their phone today. Leave a message. I’ll get back to you so you don’t leave a message. They don’t answer that’s gonna go round and round forever. Good luck. I do hope you find a winner..

Nice build. I want to build a mini bobber with a 212cc hf motor.
I just used the Hossfeld manual bender at my work
Those are pretty cool. I used to bend a lot of sch 40 aluminum pipe with one.
I cant count how many times i have tried to flip down those crazy invisible hoods like you had on towards the end of this video.
So why does cold vs hot rolled matter? Does the metal react differently? I always thought cold was just "cleaner" than hot due to the way hot is made.
