15-04-1970 to 30-05-2024 ……… 54 years old
It is with great sadness I confirm that one of the most extraordinary people I have ever known died yesterday from a massive heart attack right outside the theatre he loved so much…
Completely unexpected, without any pain, he dramatically crashed out as only he could.
Giles LOVED the theatre and loved to perform more than ANYTHING.
At WayOut at Charlies as my trusty side kick he would pull together, out of a skip, week after week, a tribute to a musical, a panto, an MTV video or a film.… Literally every week as I dropped him off home he would spot a skip to raid, for sheets of cardboard, paint, fabric cardboard tubes… We kept a lockup with the hoard of costumes scenery and props that he would recycle for one show after another….
Yes there were those that might say to me “that Giles of yours has just been rude to me” (after some quip probably some maleprop or gay innuendo) and I would tell them.. if you knew just how much he does for WayOut.. like me, you’d forgive him his few eccentricities..
When we lost our venue ‘Charlies’ Giles continued to set up WayOut in venue after venue, always there to back me up. We never found another place where we could stage the shows that Giles loved. So he took the offer to move St Helens in Liverpool and spent the rest of his time making costumes for one show after another.
Giles was his own person with little family but a large ‘drag and theatre family’. His life has been cut short. I will always remember him as the young smiling crazy person with a heart of gold… Who always did things his own way. It has been an honour and a privilege to be his friend …
All my love goes out to his WayOut, drag and theatre friends his cousins who will be immensely shocked and sad.
