I'm part Cherokee too and I have my Cherokee grandpa's alot of thick coarse hair and his short forehead. I thank the good Lord for him getting his Indian card so I can get free medical, even though he's dead.
Yes thank y'all for this when I was just starting to wash my own hair I used to do hot oil and just oil in general before washing. Of course I wanted crazy growth lol but I got less breakage, stronger hair and a smoother process 🙏 Thank you Essence as well!!! For reminding me that you go with what works for you
It was just a term used during the beginning of the 'movement' as most of us used chemical treatments such as relaxers to alter or relax the natural curl pattern of the hair.
I feel like Natural hair was used to differentiate between women of color, specifically black ones, having permed / relaxed hair and wearing their natural hair / curls more, and it became a movement. Based on societies standards women of color have had to constantly alter their hair with relaxers or weave so the term is fitting for women that no longer feel the need to do that. Just my opinion I've never looked into this.
I’ve also noticed that curly hair is never really used to reference black people. If you search for a curly hair routine, you aren’t going to get black people. Searching natural hair is really the only way for us black people to find other fellow black people’s routines.

It still boggles my mind that so many doctors or hair stylists have no idea how to treat the problems that people of color experience or in this case this intelligent, beautiful, empowering woman with a beautiful head of hair. I saved up and went to an Angolan Black trichologist and her mixed-race British daughter. Because I needed a treatment that was not going to dry out my hair and my general doctor spent 3 months trying to fix my scalp and couldn't.
I had the same dry scalp, product buildup it was just a mess and no matter what I did it just wasn’t helping. So one day I got a clarifying shampoo and I noticed the difference. That problem I was having for 10+ years went away. No I wash my hair with a clarifying shampoo and then follow up with a moisturising Shampoo and carry on with conditioner and styling. Clean clear scalp increases hair growth.
That's basically what most salons do! Clarifying shampoo, moisturizing shampoo, and a deep treatment. This "no shampoo" stuff is nonsense, in my own opinion. It's good to use a co wash, but never to replace a clarifying shampoo!
@@angelface333 I would say try to find one that says clarifying because they say those are designed specifically for getting a lot of build up out of your hair {in example, you may notice with a regular moisturizing shampoo you may have to shampoo more than once to get that buildup feeling off of your scalp). but honestly, the main cleansing ingredient is sodium laureth sulfate (or sodium lauryl sulfate,) and that's pretty much the only thing that's going to get silicones off of your hair (if you use conditioners and products with silicones) so just look for that ingredient, and I think you'll be good.

Your hair is strikingly beautiful. I never have the guts to go au naturel, I’m biracial and my hair is not curly, just wiry, so I chemically straighten the Royal crap out of it. But your hair is amazing.
Curls come with care. The more you care for it and find the products + routine that works for you you'll see it come back. Keep in mind that chemical straightening damages hair.

My mom never let me wear my hair curly and I'm black. Not even a cute afro. I even had a curly perm which now I realise at nearly age 40 that never needed a curly perm because my hair was already curly. If you go to a salon that specialises in curly hair, you will see your hair become soft and curly and not wiry.
My curls are 2C, i totally relate to what you said about how your culture even had an idea of what your hair should look like, in my Colombian culture it is also expected or more "beautiful" to have long straight hair. But my curl journey started over a decade ago, i never let what anyone else thought dictate what I did with my hair, it's on my head not there's! Lol now I have people stop me in public and ask me what my routine is. I am honest about the products I use but i usually direct them to social media and online sources because your routine should reflect what type of curl you have, not all routines are the same for everyone. It's definitely a journey with lots of fails in the beginning, but it's worth it. I haven't straightened my hair in over 5 years, i get way more compliments and feel more confident with my natural hair, and i don't miss the long, hot, and exhaustive experience of frying my hair trying to straighten it. Liberating.
@@GarnetsWeb You can get Apple cider vinegar shampoo. Avalon Organics does one. So do Aveeno, Ogx, Evolve, Renpure, Curlsmith and Creme of Nature. I can no longer do DIYs due to my sensitive and allergic scalp.

I have dry scalp and tea tree or any minty oil makes it more dry. Green tea, licorice root and water are some hydrating ingredients I live by! Your hair looks good
Thanks, I have your hair type minus the dry scalp. My daughter that's a different story. I don't even wear mine out. I just wash it braid it, put a wig on it. 😆😆. However it was torture growing up in group homes, lots of hair experiments, nobody really caring about me. I lost my hair several times as a young girl back then. I have to say, there are more black people who care today about helping us in this case, than I've ever seen growing up. Thanks for sharing, peace and blessings...

A lot of people have a mixture she would have to show you exactly the 4c part. I'm mainly 4c but I have a random patch at my nape that is 2c.....I know completely random. You don't see it because it's at the back. Only my stylist has to deal with it when he is shaping and cutting my hair. lol! Poor man..I'm seeing him next week.

Not weighed just loose. 5:40*/ 10:11 her shrunken hair compared to her loose hair is not even shrunken at all. If u refer to some of those UA-camrs you’ll see. She barely touches 40% shrinkage.

@@eo4345It's misleading I think to people who don't realise that people have different curl patterns all over their head. Most of my curls are pen spring sized curls and to get them you have to put a whole lot of moisture and styling product in my hair and I'm not about that life. lol!

My derm prescribed me ketoconazole shampoo (it sounds like she’s talking about that one) I only apply that to my scalp and use another one for my hair. They also prescribed me a gel to apply to my scalp and it works pretty well

By mis-labeling looser curl patterns as 4c, we push out hair that fits these intended labels! Now, we have girls & boys who feel like their hair is too nappy, and all along the problems is misrepresentation.

I have some leftover oil and shea butter which I'm now sensitive to. So I use that as a pre-poo for my hair and then shampoo my scalp.

I have 3C curls and my scalp is soooo dry. I love jojoba oil so much. My whole life stylists wanted to straighten my hair...no! I love my crazy curls
