How to conduct SPT | Standard Penetration Test | Soil Exploration Technique| Site Investigation

- Standard penetration is one of the most common field investigation technique. It is generally adapted for granular soils but sometimes may be used for cohesive soils too. A hammer of 63.5 kg is used and the height of fall is uniformly maintained as 75cm. Blows are not considered during initial 15cm seating drive. The number of blows required for 30cm penetration after seating drive gives recorded SPT N-value to which corrections has to be applied.
Overburden correction and the dilatancy correction are the two types of correction to be applied as per IS standard (Graph from IS 2131-1981). Overburden corrections are used to remove the effects of confining pressure at deeper strata. For silty fine sands or fine sands below water table Dilatancy correction is applied. It is to be noted that Overburden correction is applied first followed by Dilatancy correction.
Using coorelations from corrected SPT N-value, relative density, angle of internal friction of cohesionless soils , UCS value in case of cohesive soil, dynamic properties can be determined.

Very well explained with good animation
Very nice explanation, I seen this vedio after the completed of my diploma, but i have a backlog in sub of Geo technical engineering, and now i preparing for that exam, with this clean and nice vedio, thanq. Finally I can understood that topic with the help of this vedio... Thank you very much
Good
Nice video, i understand full spt test in 4:50 minutes
Absolutely fantastic explanation. With neat animation diagram.

Very useful, when you don't see practically. It is helpful for imagination. 👍👍👍👍👍
Yes, thanks
Very good lecture
Easy to understand thank you madam
Neat presentation. Mam , pls do a video on geophysical investigation of soil exploration
Thank you. Will do next time on geophysical methods.
Great animation... And explanation 👏🔥💥

Thank you
Thank u mam ❤️
Most welcome 😊
👍
Thanks mam❤
Most welcome 😊
Nice presentation
Thank you kavya
Super
Thank you
Why the first 15 cm is not considered
It's seating drive.. The sampler has to get fixed in position
N value means?
Number of blows for 30 cm penetration
