From Leo: Thanks for the show. No doubt the Clapton tone control system does a great job. It is a little tricky to master. I have become a fan of Leo's later system, the PTB system found in the G&L guitars. One knob volume, one knob treble, one knob bass, very easy to learn and very flexible. No battery required. I like it so well that I have converted two of my Fender Strats to the G&L PTB system.

Bell notification is on seems to tell me right when your streaming not ahead of time but knowing that midnight is usually the time i will be tuning in thanks
Gilmore black strat is iconic on certain pink Floyd songs... Clapton to me just plays a bunch if different color Strats that all kinda just sound like Eric... Nice but just a basic thick blues tone
AMS is awesome they make it so I can buy nice guitars and be able to afford them without interest or a credit check, just need a debit card and a payment plan.
Of course, the greatest black Strat player ever was Ahmad Don of Calcutta, Indiana. He used to smash a Clapton Strat at the end of every gig. Unfortunately, he ran out of cash to buy new guitars within weeks, and he was forced to return to his previous employment a a paint stripper. The good news is that he's saving up to buy a new Strat, but he can't promise not to smash it. More to come.
I had a TBX Strat. The TBX feature was pointless, so I never used it. Actually, I removed all the tone controls from the Strat, following the EVH principle that the pickup selector is the tone control. And the pickups sound clearer and fuller when you disconnect the tone controls.
Thank you buddy! Did you click the little bell notification next to subscribe? That should send notification. And, thank you for the compliment on the Strat. Here is that video, showing the guitar for the first time (and the back story). ua-cam.com/video/MZUq9R-L2V4/v-deo.html
Boost is always on, i believe at 5 or 10db before you turn it up. Because of this most people leave the volume at 7 or 7.5 instead of 10. The whole idea of mid boost was for Clapton to cover 60s humbucker tones and later single coils with the same guitar. Watch the Cream reunion show. He plays the whole show on a Strat instead of a 335, SG or LP.
Yes, me too. I have a 1983 Fender Strat Elite Gold, very rare they only made them for less than two years. It has the TBX and mid boost. I like it a lot, you can get many different tones out of it.
I have both the lace and the noiseless ... and I like the noiseless much better. They sound much better, in my honest opinion. Lace for nostalgia, Noiseless for tone!
it could be a perfect strat but no no fast access heel no neck +bridge pickup as single coils no load tone not out of phase no 24 frets: ) no Beck's trem
I have a Talon II by Fender/Heartfield and it has the TBX as stock. As a guy who doesn't use tone controls much, man, it's awesome. I absolutely love it when playing live
I have a simple question: TBX from 0 to 5 has the tonal range as a regular pot from 0 to 10 or from 0 to 5? It's crucial to know because in the second case couldn't be the "best of both world" if the best of someone's world is the instrument setted at 7 (for example) with a normal tone pot.
0 to 10. You can basically roll the highs off like normal, but then when you hit the detent in the middle of the control sweep, that's where the magic of this tone pot happens. Some say when you roll past the detent you are rolling off lows, but it sounds like in this video he thinks it is more like a high pass filter, which could be different from just rolling off lows. I play a tele with this tone pot. It seems to me to roll off lows. It is a passive control, so this would make sense to me. Anyway, hope that helps and someone else can expand or correct me as needed. I only wanted to try and answer because I like the tone pot, not b/c I am an engineer or someone who knows how it is working. Cheers.
As a linguist / musician I find it interesting how the pronunciation of strat o caster has morphed into sshrat o caster similar str ings is pronounced as sshtr ings there is no 'sh' sound in these words, it is of putting to me !

I really like the looks of the Black Strat with the cream plastics & black headstock.
Thx Blkjakk! Me too!
Hey Tone King, I haven't had you on for some time now, and your playing is a lot better. Always entertaining.
Welcome back!
Catching the replay, entertaining as always!! Cheers buddy!!

but knowing that midnight is usually the time i will be tuning in thanks
My 83 Tele Elite shows it has the TBX and MDX controls. Is the MDX the mid boost control you’re talking about here?
Gilmore black strat is iconic on certain pink Floyd songs... Clapton to me just plays a bunch if different color Strats that all kinda just sound like Eric... Nice but just a basic thick blues tone
If it ain't broke...
AMS is awesome they make it so I can buy nice guitars and be able to afford them without interest or a credit check, just need a debit card and a payment plan.
Turkey burgers? Oh Louis! I have CROCODILE here!
Its like guitar center
Where does the battery go? How do you change it and how often if you play about 2 hrs a day?
Just an FYI, the TBX stuff is included in the mid boost kit, you don't have to buy both kits. Really good video thanks much 👍

I have a 95 American standard Strat with tbx, and it's subtle for sure. But it adds a little more highs and makes the tone more full.
Aw man!! UA-cam never notified me of the stream and I missed it live! That Strat, with the matching headstock and cream pickups is beautiful! :)
Thank you buddy! Did you click the little bell notification next to subscribe? That should send notification. And, thank you for the compliment on the Strat. Here is that video, showing the guitar for the first time (and the back story). ua-cam.com/video/MZUq9R-L2V4/v-deo.html
I enjoyed the live stream. Thanks for the demo. The TBX and mid boost are nice features on the Eric Clapton strat.
Thank you Dale!

I believe the buddy guy sig was very similar with the same wiring.
hi i m dan from the hilippines
I have an 83 elite with the push button pickup selector that have both. And the weird tremolo.
Yes, me too. I have a 1983 Fender Strat Elite Gold, very rare they only made them for less than two years. It has the TBX and mid boost. I like it a lot, you can get many different tones out of it.
How do the vintage style frets feel
I like the earluy clapton strat with the lace pickups and the humbucker bridge
I have both the lace and the noiseless ... and I like the noiseless much better. They sound much better, in my honest opinion. Lace for nostalgia, Noiseless for tone!
@@thetonekingofficial I cannot stand those lace sensor pickups, UNLESS clapton is playing.
Love this live review and comparison!
Great show as always👍🏻
thank you Lefty! (Are you the guy from Donnie Brasco? haha)
Haha how did you know?😎
it could be a perfect strat but no
no fast access heel
no neck +bridge pickup as single coils
no load tone
not out of phase
no 24 frets: )
no Beck's trem
No becks trem? Clapton isnt a fan of tremolo as far as I know
I missed this one! Great as always, sir. When you gonna have some lefties on your show? (Might be asking a lot)
I have a Talon II by Fender/Heartfield and it has the TBX as stock. As a guy who doesn't use tone controls much, man, it's awesome. I absolutely love it when playing live
Oh dang, a fellow Heartfield owner! I still have my EX1 I got back in 91. Love that thing.
3:45 next TK video The Tone King eating Taco Bell LIVE! SWEET!

I did not know Fender had changed the name of their iconic guitar ???
what do you mean?
As a linguist / musician I find it interesting how the pronunciation of strat o caster has morphed into
sshrat o caster similar str ings is pronounced as sshtr ings there is no 'sh' sound in these words, it is of putting to me !
@@hollybo3986 Yeah, we have one of those already : P
You have got the controls the wrong way round. The bottom tone knob is the TBX and the other tone knob is the mid boost.
Sometimes pots get put in and reversed by luthiers, often to the behest of the player.
In the fender mid boost schematic that comes with the kit, the boost is the bottom and tbx is the middle.
